| | Dealing With Trauma | | 2008-05-23 22:01:00 | | Frightening Events Can Have Lasting EffectsImagine seeing a fellow soldier killed by a roadside bomb. Or searching through the rubble of the World Trade Center for survivors. Or being sexually assaulted. You're probably even trying to push those images out of your head as you read this. Some people find it impossible to stop thinking about traumatic experiences. They may have recurring nightmares. Fear and anxiety could begin to interfere with every aspect of life.It was called Soldier's Heart in the Civil War. Since then, it's gone by such names as Shell Shock, Battle Fatigue and Post-Vietnam Syndrome. Now we call it post-traumatic stress disorder, PTSD. And we know that it affects people other than those who’ve been to war.Anyone who's been through an experience that involved physical harm or the threat of it can develop PTSD. Causes include mugging, rape, torture, child abuse, car accidents and natural disasters. After a trauma, you may startle easily and be constantly on... | | By: My Health | | |

| | By: Danta's Articles | | |

| Head Trauma | | 2008-01-30 12:48:00 | | At 7:30 this morning, my baby Cher started screaming - three year old Pixie had closed Cher's fingers in the door. I ran over and threw open the door to release her fingers but the door bashed Pixie who was sitting on the other side. I picked up the screaming Pixie and bent down to pick up shrieking Cher as well. As I did, I accidentally mashed Pixie's head into the door frame. Finally with both screaming girls on my lap, I tried to comfort them but Cher slipped off my knee and mashed her face on Pixie's bare knee sending them both into fresh, painful wails. And that was just 7:30. Can you imagine all the emotional lacerations I've caused since then? Motherhood, my friends. It's loud.... | | By: Hollywood Flakes: Get 'em While They're Hot | | |
| | The Trauma of Divorce | | 2007-12-15 03:02:00 | | Many would not link the word ‘trauma’ with ‘divorce’. However, divorce is extremely traumatizing for all involved. I relate divorce to death. Someone you truly love has now been permanently omitted from your life. Someone that you always expected would be there. I mean, no one gets married with the premeditated idea of getting divorced. People get married because they truly believe they will be with that person ‘till death does them part.’ If you are anything like me, you are more concerned with the PTSD symptoms your children may be experiencing than yourself. Some symptoms of PTSD are overly-exaggerated fears (screaming if some one steps up from behind, etc.), anxiety, depression, despair, re-occurring anger, self-blame and guilt, compulsive or aggressive behaviors, sleep disorders, concentration difficulty, nightmares, emotional numbing, avoidance of people, places or activities that remind them of the event and a feeling of detachment. Just reading the symptoms... | | By: SPIN Single Parents In Need | | |

| | Stalking and Violence: New Patterns of Trauma and Obsession | | 2007-07-16 06:44:00 | | Author: Stephen J. Morewitz Paperback: 150 pagesPublisher: Springer; 1 edition (December 31, 2002)Language: EnglishISBN: 0306473658Stalking and Violence: New Patterns of Obsession and Trauma provides new perspectives on the prevalence, causes, and effects of stalking in intimate and non-intimate relations. Drawing on the results of a large random survey of restraining orders, this book found that stalking is highly prevalent in a variety of relationships and is a pattern of behaviors that is routinely regulated by the demographic and social characteristics of the victims and offenders. This book demonstrates that it is possible to develop reliable stalker profiles to help better detect and respond to the threat of stalking. These findings differ from previous studies that considered stalking limited to severely disturbed persons. Covering a wide range of topics from offender profiling, the dangers of stalking, cyberstalking, traumatic health effects, and the responses of the polic... | | By: GanEden For Books | | |

We had our raccoon trauma at the off... | | 2007-06-12 13:06:00 | | The FugitiveWe had our raccoon trauma at the office. There were those among us that saw the raccoon as a harbinger of every kind of contagion known to man up to and including social diseases and malaria. I’m reasonably sure they understood that to get an STD from a raccoon that you first have to have sex with the raccoon, but I’m not sure. I was also not sure how malaria could be contracted from raccoon either. There was also some mention on rabies, but Rocky wasn’t manifesting any symptoms. It wasn’t rabies that was drawing him to our door way, it was laziness and kibble. The cat food brigade became concerned when the panic merchants started making noise about “making calls” about Rocky. We don’t want Smokey to be the innocent victim of a raccoon pogrom. We needed to act first and fast. One of Smokey’s Friends volunteers at a shelter and had access to live traps. We knew that any trapping was going to inevitably, trap cats and so we got in contact with the campus cat l... | | By: Reading In The Dark | | |
