| High inflation hindering travellers | | 2008-08-25 05:45:00 | | The September 2 holiday is nearing, but travel firms have not seen large numbers of clients booking tours.
Despite skyrocketing prices, travel firms dare not raise tour fees, while they are launching a lot of promotion programmes in order to stimulate demand. However, it seems that the promotion programmes are not helping them much.

| Thailand Travellers - Explore The Mystery Of Thailand | | 2008-06-15 13:00:00 | | Thailand is teeming with tourists, perhaps it is because of blend of mystery and excitement, the mix of ancient lore and modern nightlife. Thailand, has been known as Siam for centuries, Thailand has been a crossroads of culture and religion and the 21st century has not changed that fact.If you are a Buddhist, it is the destination of a lifetime, if you are simply one who enjoys witnessing a culture far different than your own; again it is the destination of life time. For the devotee of Buddha; Thailand is home to some of the most unique and unusual Buddhist temples in the world. And even if you are not a Buddhist, to stare at the emerald Buddha, crafted entirely of jasper quartz or jade is staggering to the imagination; the jade is dated to the 15th century, with the murals not being quite as old.Add to that the fact that travelling in Thailand (not counting the airfare to get there) is one of the most inexpensive destinations worldwide. Hotels, food, shopping all are priced to make e | | By: Best Countries | | |
| | New Zealand’s snow the place to go for Aussie travellers | | 2008-06-11 02:50:00 | | New Zealand gets nearly a quarter of its annual tourism income from Australian holiday-makers, according to the Dominion Post. Every year, the ski fields welcome 20 per cent more visitors from Australia, amounting to 70,000 people last year. Australians are flocking to the slopes of New Zealand year after year because of the “much better, much more reliable skiing”, claims Matthew Hassan, a Westpac senior economist. And with the great exchange rate and another season looking packed with snowfalls, the influx of holiday-makers to New Zealand from Australia is expected to increase by another 20 per cent this year.

| Travellers Health Insurance: A Boon in Guise | | 2008-06-08 23:00:00 | | Travellers Health Insurance: A Boon in GuiseAlteration of fate is not in man's hands, but least we can do to secure our future is to take necessary actions in correct direction and make the life worthwhile. Good precautionary measures like life insurance, securing house or traveller's health insurance etc are good examples of this. Though you are immunised, still you need a proper coverage to protect you and your finance from unseen crisis, which often pop up before you in far-flung places. We make full arrangements for the security of home and other valuables, but never of our lives. Traveller's health insurance is equally important as auto insurance, life insurance or loss or damage coverage. We are aware of the immunisation and vaccination policies, but they are not sufficient. It is always advisable to go prepared with every possible safety measure, when going on a trip. Most of us are still unconvinced about taking travellers health insurance policy. | | Tarts for Travellers. | | 2008-05-19 14:30:00 | | May 20 ...Viscount John Byng took to the English country road in the eighteenth century for a variety of reasons, and luckily for us he kept a meticulous record of his observations. We have met him a couple of times already - once to share his horrid meal of ‘raw, rank mutton chops and some cold hard potatoes’, and another time when he fared very sumptuously on ‘Cold Beef, Cold Veal, and Gooseberry Tart’. He had another gooseberry tart experience on this day in 1789, but it was not so pleasant. “Wellwyn, May 20th 1789. Mrs S. Talk’d about Mutton chops; but I stuck to my demand of cold meat, with a goosebery tart; and was right, for she instantly produced a cold Tongue, and a cold Fillet of Veal: as for her fusty old tart of last years fruit, I open’d the Lid, and closed it tightly down for the next Comer.” The Viscount was, perhaps optimistic in expecting a pie of fresh gooseberries so early in the season? Or am I out of touch with the English seasons? Gooseb | | By: The Old Foodie | | |

| | Cakes and Travellers. | | 2008-03-19 13:37:00 | | March 20 ... Charles Joseph La Trobe was born on this day in 1801, and when I discovered that fact, I was sure that today there would be an Australian story. La Trobe was the Superintendent of the Port Phillip District from 1839 to 1851, and Lieutenant-Governor of Victoria from 1851 to 1854. He was a man of great vision and good intentions, although his period in office was not without its controversies and difficulties. His name has been given to several locations and institutions, particularly in Victoria, where the State Library holds a large collection of his papers and correspondence. I had no idea that La Trobe ever visited the United States, until my brief foray into his life-story. In 1824, he accompanied his student-protégé the Comte de Pourtalés on a long trip to the North American continent, where he spent some time with Washington Irving. Sadly I have been unable to find, in my very brief browsing, any food stories relating to his time in Australia, but he was c | | By: The Old Foodie | | |

| | Travel firms focus on the travellers' gender | | 2007-09-11 20:04:00 | | MUMBAI: At Mumbai’s Kesari travels it is a toss-up between My Prince Charming offering tours for men - the men’s way, or My Fair Lady aimed at the woman who wants to let her hair down in the company of other women. Gender specific international tours are gaining ground, as outbound tourists move beyond the catch all family-group tours. Though still largely stereotypical, with fashion shows for women and laddish activities for men, travel companies in India are experimenting with programmes worked with a focus on the travellers’ gender.

| | UK travellers don’t care about the environment | | 2007-07-21 13:44:52 | | My suspicions have been confirmed by a recent poll where more than two thirds of UK holidaymaker’s don’t consider the effect that their Summer holiday flight will have on the environment. Travellers are more concerned about disappointing acommodation or losing their bags than any pollution caused by their flight. Only 4% of holidaymakers will take a holiday in the UK.
Aircraft streams from back garden by Haversack
I was surprised to read the comments by a leading travel journalist Jeremy Skidmore, where he appears to be encouraging everyone to dismiss any concerns about the environmental impact of their Summer holiday flights. I agree with his comments that the UK Government deserves condemnation for increasing Air Passenger Duty and not spending the revenue on environmental projects and his resentment at world jetting popstars are preaching to “save the Earth”. However I don’t think that justifies us to just dismiss the whole issue.

| | Destination Sealy Mattress for Bus Travellers | | 2007-07-01 18:36:37 | | Good news for those who frequently commute on the road. Sealy has unveiled it’s new mattress, Destination, especially designed for those who need to get a good sleep while inside a cramped bus during travel.
“Whether you choose the window or the aisle model, you’ll feel the difference after just one night, especially in your back,” said Sealy spokeswoman Georgia Mitchell, who added that users’ muscles are repeatedly stimulated throughout the night by the bed’s patented “bounce and rattle” mechanism. “Most importantly, the hyper-constricted sleep space, coupled with the ergonomic, semi-upright design, cuts in half the tossing and turning one experiences on a regular mattress.”
Destination also comes with a jacket pillow ($150).

| | The Breakfast of Travellers. | | 2007-06-10 22:44:00 | | Today, June 11th … Today is a public holiday in most of Australia. It is the Queen’s official birthday, hence, as a relic of our colonial past and in recognition of Her as Head of the Commonwealth, we get a Monday off work. It is the one day a year I am a minor Royalist, in gratitude for the holiday. For those of you who must drag yourselves reluctantly to work this Monday morning, pause a moment and think yourself back to 1911, when June 11th was a Sunday. On this retrospecive Sunday morning imagine yourself aboard the magnificent R.M.S. Lusitania and blissfully unaware of its fate in 1915 at the hands of a German U-Boat.
