| | By: Pron0x-TV | | |

| | News Corp. Withdraws Its Bid for Tribune's Newsday | | 2008-05-10 16:16:38 | | May 10 - News Corp. withdrew a $580 million offer for Long Island newspaper Newsday, three days after its chairman, Rupert Murdoch, said talks with owner Tribune Co. were in a ``pretty advanced stage.'' News Corp. spokeswoman Teri Everett said in an e-mail the bid had become ``uneconomical,'' while declining to elaborate. Cablevision Systems Corp. has offered $650 million for Newsday, a person familiar with the bid has said. Cablevision spokesman Charlie Schueler declined to comment today. ``Of course, they're overpaying,'' said John Morton, an independent newspaper industry analyst in Silver Spring, Maryland, in a telephone interview commenting on Cablevision. ``Murdoch was overpaying. If somebody didn't have a hometown interest, this paper would've sold for $400 million to $450 million, possibly $500 million.'' Murdoch, who completed News Corp.'s $5.2 billion purchase of Dow Jones & Co. in December, had planned to combine Newsday's printin | | By: Clickbank Business Guide | | |

| | | Union-Tribune can't hide its 'business deal' | | 2007-11-28 11:00:00 | | What’s the big secret behind the “business deal” between the San Diego Union-Tribune and radio station XTRA Sports 1360 AM?The Union-Tribune has its sportswriters on a daily (Monday-Friday) show from 10 am-noon, but here’s what you won’t read about in the supposedly tell-all Union-Tribune:The newspaper is paying $1,000 an hour to have its sportswriters on The Sports Page with Josh Rosenberg. As part of the deal, the Union-Tribune is selling ads for the show. Also, the sportswriters on the show do not receive any compensation for their time. That’s sure to build morale in the already-deteriorating newspaper business. The next time you hear (or see) the Union-Tribune collectively beating its chest for thinking it blows the whistle on others, just ask why the paper doesn’t blow the whistle on itself. This “business deal” is an example of the U-T thinking it is above the rules it sets for others. | | By: San Diego Sporting | | |

| | BP vs The Chicago Tribune | | 2007-07-23 17:18:10 | | Recently the Chicago Tribune published an article about a BP Factory in Whiting, Indiana. BP however feels that The Chicago Tribune failed to represent some important facts about BP in the article. I took interest in this article since my mother takes my aunt to a doctor in Whiting, Indiana.
In the article BP gets break on dumping in lake, the reporter argues that BP’s plan to refine heavier Canadian crude oil in order to reduce having to rely on sources in the Middle East will cause extra pollution to the Great Lakes. In order to successfully execute this project, BP must dump more ammonia and industrial sludge into Lake Michigan as well as use more energy which will promote global warming.
If the following facts are true about BP’s refinery then there shouldn’t be a problem, right? You be the judge.
Facts about BP’s Whiting Refinery:

| | | Union-Tribune MLB draft coverage is Bush league | | 2007-06-07 17:47:00 | | Does anybody else remember this story from the San Diego Union-Tribune on June 8, 2004?By Bill CenterKevin Towers couldn’t hide his delight. "This is a great story," the Padres general manager said yesterday after introducing Mission Bay High shortstop/pitcher Matt Bush as the No. 1 pick of baseball's 2004 draft. And the story started with a report in this newspaper Friday. At the time, Padres director of scouting Bill Gayton was assessing the three collegiate frontrunners for the Padres' No. 1 pick in the draft – right-handed pitchers Jered Weaver of Long Beach State and Jeff Niemann of Rice and Florida State shortstop Stephen Drew. Gayton was asked about Matt Bush. "We've talked about Bush," said Gayton. "We love him." When Bush read that quote Friday morning, a light went on. "I've always loved the Padres," said Bush. "If they love me . . . "Bush put in a call to one of his advisers, Ken Felder. "I asked Ken that, off what I read in the newspaper, would it be OK if I called | | By: San Diego Sporting | | |
