he International Cricket Council (ICC) Sunday postponed until next year September's Champions Trophy in Pakistan over security fears.
The move came two days after South Africa refused to send their team, while players' associations from Australia, New Zealand and England urged their players not to travel to the troubled country over serious security concerns.
The decision to postpone the event was taken after a tele-conference of the ICC executive board in Dubai on Sunday.
Pakistan Cricket Board chief operating officer Shafqat Naghmi said while disappointing, the decision to postpone was a sort of victory for Pakistan.
"We are naturally disappointed but in a way the postponement is a victory for us. Under these circumstances there were only two solutions: either to relo... | | By: BrightCricket | | |

outh Africa announced Friday it will not send a team to the Champions Trophy tournament in Pakistan next month.
They are the first country officially to boycott the tournament, which has been mired in controversy over security concerns.
The decision follows a meeting Friday involving Cricket South Africa, International Cricket Council chief executive Haroon Lorgat and ICC security officials.
"After extensive discussions and a frank exchange of views, the board resolved not to send our team at this time to Pakistan to participate in the ICC Champions Trophy," Cricket SA president Norman Arendse said in a statement.

Hosts Pakistan Friday criticised South Africa's "hasty" decision to skip next month's Champions Trophy and said it would badly hurt the eight-nation event.
The September 12-28 tournament now looks likely to be relocated or postponed over security fears when the International Cricket Council (ICC) meets on the matter on Sunday.
"We are deeply disappointed and when a decision was to be made on Sunday we think South Africa made a hasty choice," Pakistan Cricket Board chief operating officer Shafqat Naghmi told AFP.

ICC Chief Executive Harron Lorgat
The International Cricket Council Wednesday said it is likely to make a final decision on the ill-fated Champions Trophy in Pakistan on Sunday.
The eight-nation biennial event, scheduled for September, has run into serious doubts after players from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and England raised security concerns.
"It is anticipated the ICC task team hook-up will take place on Friday 22 August and the ICC Board hook-up will be held on Sunday 24 August," said an ICC press release after a meeting at headquarters in Dubai.
The meeting was held a day after Australian Cricketers' Association (ACA) urged its players not to tour the country following a wave of suicide bombings and ongoing political instability.

England's participation in next month's Champions Trophy in Pakistan will be discussed at an England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) meeting on Tuesday.
Security fears have already led to New Zealand and Australia casting doubts about competing despite meeting with high-ranking figures from the International Cricket Council (ICC), the sport's world governing body.
England players met with ICC representatives Sunday night to discuss their fears about travelling.
An England spokesman told BBC Sport: "ECB chief executive Davd Collier was at the meeting and he will report back.

Less than a month away from the Champions Trophy, Australian cricket bosses remain uncertain about whether the titleholders will play in the one-day tournament in Pakistan.
The Champions Trophy is scheduled for September 12-28, but Cricket Australia (CA) continues to have concerns over player safety in the troubled country, despite a meeting with International Cricket Council (ICC) officials here on Friday.
The ICC delegation met with CA in Melbourne, with Australian captain Ricky Ponting, deputy Michael Clarke and players' union boss Paul Marsh also present, to outline security measures for the tournament.
CA chief executive James Sutherland said a number of issues were raised with the ICC and those needed to be addressed before a final decision was made.

| | A Special World Series Trophy Photo | | 2008-08-08 17:31:00 | | Last night was a really special night at Professor Thom's, as we had a public viewing in The Loft of "Blessed! Still We Believe 2." We had a nice turnout of folks who came in and enjoyed the film. Many of us who appeared in the film, like my friends Chris Wertz, Chris Johnson (who looks amazingly like David Ortiz), Matt, Eric and a few others came out to check out the film. It was great to relive those special memories once again. But after the film, I was introduced to Peter Nash, who is an author and a filmmaker, and he produced the splendid documentary "Rooters: The Birth of Red Sox Nation." He had a special surprise for all of us in The Loft last night. He brought in the actual 1912 Red Sox World Series championship trophy. (Actually it's not an "official" trophy, as MLB didn't give out an official WS trophy until 1967.) It's a really small trophy, but it is nearly 100 years old, and in the middle contains the actual ball that Red Sox infielder Larry Gardner hit for a sacrifice fly i... | | By: The Mighty Quinn Media Machine | | |

Pakistan's cricket chief Saturday said he was not worried over the prospect of top players pulling out of the Champions Trophy, which the South Asian country hosts in September.
"If some players do not come it would not make any difference," Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Nasim Ashraf told AFP. "It would be their loss to miss a mega event."
Holders Australia and other key nations could pull out of the Trophy after the International Cricket Council (ICC) decided Thursday to go ahead with the tournament in Pakistan despite security fears.
The ICC announced an eight-member taskforce will ensure security in Pakistan for the September 11-28 showpiece but even that has failed to allay the security concerns of the non-Asian countries.

The International Cricket Council will decide Thursday whether Pakistan can host the Champions Trophy in September amid security fears in the country.
A teleconference of the ICC executive board "will take place on Thursday to take a decision on Champions Trophy," an ICC spokesman told AFP on Tuesday.
The year's biggest one-day tournament features the top eight Test nations -- Australia, South Africa, England, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and the West Indies. It is scheduled to be held in Pakistan September 11-28.
But Australia, England and New Zealand have raised concerns about security in Pakistan, which is battling militants in tribal areas where Washington has said Al-Qaeda and Taliban militants have created sanctuaries.

Pakistan cricket authorities Saturday hoped for a positive decision on their hosting of the Champions Trophy in September amidst security concerns in the country.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) is to conduct a security briefing at headquarters in Dubai Sunday with representatives from all eight participating teams in attendance -- a meeting which could lead to a final decision.
Pakistan's representative, Shafqat Naghmi, is hoping for a positive outcome.
"We have assured fool-proof security measures for the Trophy and there is no reason for us to believe that the tournament will be relocated from Pakistan," Naghmi, chief operating officer of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), said.

| | | Audi TT-S to be official car of the Tourist Trophy races | | 2008-04-26 19:24:00 | | The Isle of Man credits itself as hosting the world's oldest races, the Tourist Trophy (TT). The 32-mile long island, located in the Irish Sea (it's the body of water between the United Kingdom and Ireland), held the first motorcycle and car races back in 1905. Now, for the first time in more than a century, a car sharing the same name as the event has been named the "Official Car" of the event. You guessed it, event organizers have chosen the Audi TT as the "Official Car." It's not just any TT that gets the honor -- it's the hot new 265-hp Audi TT-S. Audi will be supplying eight cars for the event at the end of May. Driven by race officials (yes, at non-race speeds), they will help with the course inspection and other logistics during the week-long event. Oh, we should add, it is a motorcycle race. | | The Trophy's a Hit at Thom's | | 2008-01-12 11:51:00 | | It was a night to remember at Professor Thom's on Friday night as the bar was packed with Red Sox fans (at least 100, probably more) as the 2007 World Series Championship Trophy made an appearance in New York, and it was a huge hit.The Trophy spent most of the day at three different stops in Connecticut: New Haven, Waterbury and Hartford. The Thom's viewing was scheduled for 7 PM, but the rally in Hartford did not end until after 5 PM, so it looked like it might not happen for a while. (We put on the World Series DVD on the big screens to entertain the fans while they waited. But fortunately, there wasn't too much traffic coming down from Hartford, and The Trophy got to the bar at about 7:25. There was a huge ovation as my buddy Chris brought the Trophy in, and everyone wanted to touch it as it went by.The Trophy was put on a table by the back of the bar, right next to the giant video screen. People lined up throughout the bar, and most were acting like little kids on Christmas morning when they had their turn with the Trophy. It was kissed, touched, fondled and held by almost everyone. When it was my first turn (I went up to it a number of times) I had a number of people taking pictures of me, I felt like I was posing with an Academy Award! It was an incredibly fun night, as everyone had big smiles on their faces, especially after they finished posing with it. More than one person said to me, "I'd love to do this every year!"There were some comic moments last night as well. The guy who runs the bar next door called Finnerty's is a guy named Keith, who's a big Yankee fan. He came in to check on the festivities, and threatened to spit on the Trophy if he got near it! Actually he enjoyed seeing it, and later in the night came back with a Yankees flag and posed with it, as my buddies Chris and Steve were mockingly beating him up. Keith is a good Yankees fan and treated the whole night with good humor. And the same could be said of my buddy Mike, who is a Phillies fa... | | By: The Mighty Quinn Media Machine | | |

The 2007 World Series Championship Trophy will be stopping by for a viewing for all Red Sox fans to enjoy.Currently, the Trophy is in Canada, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. A group of fans there called the Bluenose Bosox Brotherhood petitioned the Sox brass with tons of emails requesting a visit, and yesterday and today it has been on display for the Red Sox fans up there. (Yes, there is a large group of Sox fans in Eastern Canada, and in Nova Scotia in particular.) Pictured here is my friend Don (on the right) with some friends at the Nova Scotia viewing on Monday.Manhattan gets its turn with the Trophy on Friday. The good folks from Bombo Films, who shot the documentary that I was a part of (and will be released in a few months) will be there to capture the night on film.I was at the 2004 Trophy Viewing at the Yale Club across from Grand Central back in November 2004, and it was a tremendous day, one I'll never forget. I got many pictures, including a solo one of me that I used as a Christmas card later that year.I'll have more information as it becomes available. Fourteen quarterbacks have won the Heisman Trophy since 1971 and very few have had any success in the NFL. The strange thing is everybody knows this, but they still get selected in the NFL Draft way higher than they should, year after year. Yes people, the 2006 winner Troy Smith was selected in the fifth round and he probably shouldn’t have even been picked in the NFL Draft at all. There were five players selected ahead of Smith in the 2007 NFL Draft from his own team! He was supposed to be the best player in college football last year, but he wasn’t even in the top 5 of his own team. Here is an example of how distorted the Heisman Trophy has become, did you know that Troy Smith’s 2,540 votes were the 3rd most votes since 1968, only behind OJ Simpson in 1968 (2,853 votes) and Reggie Bush in 2005 (2541 votes). Penelope got her full 12 hours of sleep last night, took a 3.5 hour nap this morning, and another 1.5 this afternoon. It's days like today that I feel kind of bad that Adum is sitting at the office having to sue people all day and I just get to hang out in our nice apartment with a baby who is only awake 8 hours a day. The only way I can make myself feel less guilty about it is to remember how awful the first 3 months were.Since today was incredibly non-eventful there's really not much to post other than my growing affection for playing the guitar.
