An Uninvited Guest to Get Rid Off
    2008-06-01 23:23:00
I do not want to know what kind of creature this is sitting on the wall...I caught it with the designated bug jar and gave it back to the outside world. This was not the first time either, and I sincerely hope that this is not an old house thing.

    My most recent uninvited guest.

Today after work, as I logged on to read the recent quake 3 news, there was this huge crash by the window. It sounded like a bird just flew into it and died. But as I checked, I noticed a scratching noise and saw some fir through the cracks. You see my air conditioner requires that this window is open – only the plastic accordion from the AC stands between me and the horrors of NYC air. It turns out, there was a squirrel that was investigating this window. And it appears he or she was trying to burrow into my office. After adding a screw to prevent the break in, I recorded some of the action. It was a pretty cute guy, but really aggressive. I could scare him away by turning on the AC, hitting the window, or spraying with the compressed gas electronics duster upside down, but he would always come back after a few minutes. He seems to have stopped for now, finally (maybe the duster blinded him). Here are some videos. Btw this is the same window as the have a nice day bag, if

    Uninvited Guests at a Wedding
    2007-04-24 03:51:00
It was a dark night as nights usually are; otherwise we would call them “days.” The moon was almost perfectly hidden by the pitch-blackness save for a single sliver of light. There were a few stars, but not that many to speak of. It was, for all intent and purpose, a beautiful New Orleans night. The wedding we were attending was held at a plantation that was built around 1840. It sprawled across untold acres and the house sat in the dead center of the estate. It was a three story colonial house complete with pillars addressing the porches of both the front and the back doors. The room connecting the two doors held only a staircase and two doors to the adjoining rooms; one on each side of the hall. The wedding was held in the backyard of the house, but the house was open for us to enter and explore save for the third floor that was roped off and completely dark. An antique Grandfather clock was the only thing that was visible in the shadows. A single employee in period dress
