| | Property overseas: Unsung Italy | | 2008-06-01 05:27:00 | | But those who dream of owning an Italian farmhouse in Tuscany will find the prices far from romantic. In sought-after parts of the region (so-called Chiantishire, for example) and even in neighbouring Umbria, an average four-bedroom, stone farmhouse can cost about €1.2 million. The British outpost, however, comprises a relatively small area of Italy. If you venture an hour north into Lunigiana or south into Emilia-Romagna, equivalent properties can cost up to half as much - and there is still plenty for classics scholars to sink their teeth into. "It's more of a buyer's market," says Mr Fawcett, "so long as you are sensible and check all the facts."For those prepared to explore, there are many lovely, old houses within easy reach of unspoilt coast and countryside all over Italy.

| Hampson is Padres' unsung hero | | 2007-07-25 17:56:00 | | Without a doubt, Justin Hampson is the unsung hero of the Padres. For the third time this season, Hampson bailed the Padres out of a desperate situation in last night’s 5-3 win at Colorado. After Chris Young left with a strained oblique muscle before the third inning, Hampson came on to pitch 3 2/3 shutout innings. It was the continuation of a trend whereby Hampson has been the go-to guy whenever the Padres needed someone the most.Remember the June 16 game at Chicago when Young was ejected for an altercation with Derrek Lee? Hampson was summoned to pitch 3 1/3 innings of shutout relief.Or how about the April 29 game when the Padres and Dodgers went 17 innings? Hampson allowed just one unearned run over the last four innings … and probably would have pitched all night if the Padres asked him to do so.The Padres better not send Hampson back to the minor leagues again. He’s too valuable in those grunt roles that nobody else on this team seems willing … or able … to fill. | | By: San Diego Sporting | | |
| | Unsung Heroes: DE Anthony Hargrove | | 2007-06-10 15:35:40 | | Hargrove brings energy to the D-Line Note: the Buffalo Rumblings "Unsung Heroes" series continues today with a look at Bills DE Anthony Hargrove. Previous Heroes: LB Keith Ellison, RB Anthony Thomas, P Brian Moorman. Hargrove the Energizer Acquired at the trade deadline last season in a deal with the St. Louis Rams, Bills DE Anthony Hargrove quickly made his presence known on the Bills' defense. While his presence wasn't felt so much statistically (20 tackles, 1.5 sacks in Buffalo), it's undeniable that Hargrove brought a new dimension to Buffalo's defensive line: energy. Not one to shy away from congratulating a teammate for anything, Hargrove made himself a bit of a fan-favorite last season with his poofy hair, high-energy defensive and special teams play and his sideline antics, where he would stand on the bench to pump up the crowd, dance and do whatever else it took to get people excited. On a young football team, that trait can never be undervalued | | By: Buffalo Rumblings | | |
| | Unsung Heroes: P Brian Moorman | | 2007-06-09 16:23:08 | | Moorman is a fan favorite Note: the Buffalo Rumblings "Unsung Heroes" series continues today with a look at Bills P Brian Moorman. Previous Heroes: LB Keith Ellison, RB Anthony Thomas. Team MVP There aren't many NFL teams that can say that their punter was (or was close to being) the most valuable performer on their team. Well, no team with more than, say, a 4-12 record, at least. But most teams don't have two-time Pro Bowler Brian Moorman punting for their team, do they? Most Bills fans are aware that Moorman is an elite punter; it's time to understand his true value to this franchise. It runs much deeper than simply punting a football. Flipper of the Field What makes Moorman so valuable on the field is his ability to "flip the field", or switch the situation from the opponent being deep in Bills territory to deep in their own territory. At one point last year, it looked like Moorman would be the first punter in Bills history to break 40 yards in net | | By: Buffalo Rumblings | | |

| Unsung Heroes - RB Anthony Thomas | | 2007-06-08 15:57:02 | | A-Train leads a crowded backfield Note: the Buffalo Rumblings "Unsung Heroes" series continues today with a look at Bills RB Anthony Thomas. Previous Heroes: LB Keith Ellison. Is the A-Train Forgotten? It's been quite an off-season in Buffalo as far as the running back position goes, with a lot of headlines made nationally. First the team traded Willis McGahee to Baltimore, which left national "experts" scratching their heads. The Draft then brought two rookies in Marshawn Lynch and Dwayne Wright who carry pretty heavy expectations in their first seasons. The potential of these two players has many Bills fans envisioning a long-term "Thunder and Lightning" backfield in Buffalo. Lost amongst the shuffle was the quiet re-signing of veteran Anthony Thomas, whose first season in Buffalo was anything but spectacular. Despite the necessity of a big season from Lynch, it isn't a stretch to say that the A-Train is the most valuable running back on the Bills' ro | | By: Buffalo Rumblings | | |
| | Write Back Weekend "Unsung Heroes" | | 2007-05-13 17:30:00 | | Quick update on my computer woes. The bad news is I still can't access Google.com from my computer. This, in turn, means I also cannot log in to Blogger to update this blog since it uses gmail. The good (and weird) news is that I CAN access both Google and Blogger through the other computer in the house. This means I can update, just via that computer. I've tried everything I can think of to fix it, but I don't want to make it worse than it already is and lose everything, so I gave up. It's most likely a DNS issue because that's what it's been in the past. So, if you're familiar with those, any ideas are welcome. In the meantime, I have to use the Canadian Google for my searches. See? We make do with what we have. This week's TITMT question asked you to describe your favorite underdogs of all time. Some of you really thought outside the box on this one and came up with some pretty clever responses. After all, Merriam Webster breaks up the definition of an underdog into the fo | | By: The Art of Getting By | | |
