    Chargin Valley Honey Beer Soap
    2008-08-08 19:48:40
In all honesty it is starting to get harder and harder to tell the difference between many homemade soaps. I have come across so many wonderful soaps. One thing I do notice is when I run across a bad soap. If a homemade soap does not have enough oils in it my skin feels tight and dry. Chargin Valley Honey Beer soap is not one of those bad soaps. I know it seems odd to use a beer soap. Smelling of beer is not exactly what most women want. Let me assure you the soap does not smell like beer. To...

2001 Liparita Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
    2008-07-31 13:27:00
This is a wine that I have special sentiment for and one that I had the privilege to try at a trade tasting about three years ago. It was the best wine that evening and is now showing even better with the extra bottle age. Seems like yesterday when these promising 01' vintage Napa Cabs were released as the next great vintage of Napa wines since 97' and now they are almost ready and fully developed wines. The bouquet of this wine is really special and shows aromas of dark cherry, sweet tea leaf, hints of dark plums, and a touch of cedar. Light and damp leather notes and a earthy, dusty coco meets soil thing is also present but constantly changing. The very complex aromatics are what make this wine so special but the flavors are also quite daunting. Rich red cherry, tea leaf, sweet tobacco, plum, and unsweetened coco are just a few examples of the complex profile of flavor nuances. The tannins are sweet and integrated but also pull on the palate and make this wine very dry and serious. ...

Small Town Bells in the Death Valley...
    2008-07-23 03:38:00
The fabulous and ever so productive Danish one-man project Death Valley Sleepers has published yet another track. The newbie is called Small Town Bells and as great as it is, it doesn’t really bring much new to the table, as the music continues to sound like The Jesus and Mary Chain joining The Raveonettes in a time machine on a nostalgic trip back to the 60’s to team up with The Velvet Underground. But the real news of the day is that Death Valley Sleepers have finally announced the date of their first gig, which will take place at Rust in Copenhagen on August 28. Unfortunately I won’t be able to make it to their first live performance, but hopefully this means that more concerts will be soon be announced! I’ve done a bit of counting (I’m normally very good at this) and have reach the conclusion that the band has published at least 12 different tracks or pretty much an album worth of music. For your convenience I’ve posted 10 of the tracks below (all of them are free to do...

PVCentral launches-- a site for valley bloggers!
    2008-07-14 22:41:22
A couple of months ago I got an email from blogger Bill Dusty, author of The Springfield Intruder, with an interesting suggestion: what if five to eight valley bloggers got together on a central page to provide a service to Lower Pioneer Valley residents and, maybe, to make some money through advertising? Hmmm, I thought. I'm fine with both parts of that. I certainly hope my blog is already a service of sorts, and although I don't have advertising on my site, I've got nothing against money.Of the initial group of us, I knew Bill a little already-- he describes himself as a conservative and he and I have sparred back and forth on our blogs for a while. I've known Mike Dobbs of Out of the Inkwell for some years-- he's also a reporter for the Springfield Reminder. Tommy Devine's personal blog, Tommy Devine's Online Journal, has already enthralled me with its personal tale of unearthing family secrets and finding a long-lost brother and I did feel like I knew him somewhat. Being in a...

2005 La Crema Anderson Valley Pinot Noir
    2008-07-01 12:16:00
This Pinot Noir is a massive, full flavored effort with mounds of youth and expression that almost needs time in the bottle to tame the vigorous and powerful flavors. The bouquet is best summed up by the oak, cherry, rhubarb, and ripe strawberry preserves that it forcefully exudes. There is a medicinal hint to the nose that I found a bit obnoxious(like a Robitussin) but it only supports my opinion that this wine is a bit to young to drink at the moment. The only thing that overpowers the aromas of this wine are the flavors which are very exaggerated and somewhat untamed at the moment. Kind of reminds me of a Paul Hobbs Pinot I reviewed awhile back because of it's high octane nature and it's similarity to many over the top Russian River Pinot's I've come across. Flavors of raw young strawberry, oak, red cherry, and pencil lead. Seems a bit high in alcohol and would offend most classic Burgundy aficionados. The subtlety is lacking in this wine and doesn't fully express what I think the ...

She was stunned by what she saw: instant wealth being created by land prices that have tripled, even quadrupled, in recent years."I saw the opportunity," said Nguyen, who now commutes regularly between the valley and Vietnam. "I saw the cha-ching, cha-ching. Your return on investment is at least 200 percent in one year." ...

    Valley View Greenhouses
    2008-05-16 04:33:15
Valley View GreenhousesSouth Salem, New YorkThis is where I buy about 80% of my annuals and a lot of my perennials. I started going there when I first started working on the Estate in 1985 and it is amazing to me how much it has grown since then. Well I guess it isn’t amazing as they produce great plants and offer people in the trade a good deal. Lately I have noticed that they have upped their personal and friendly service. That makes the shopping experience a whole lot better.Valley View offers a wide range of annuals. Some trendy items as well as some hard to find items and there are always a few surprises. If I can’t find exactly what I am looking for a good substitute is usally available. It is self-service which I like especially if I only have idea of the area I want to fill up as opposed to having an exact plant list. You can get help if you need some information about the plants.Their selection of perennials is great and the stuff always seems to do well after you plant it...

Death Valley Sleepers – New Song…
    2008-05-01 15:21:00
Danish one man project Death Valley Sleepers has published a new track called Heartbreaking Sound of Joy and once again the music has been made free to download from Myspace. It has almost become a bit tedious constantly comparing the band to The Raveonettes, but listen to it and you'll understand that it’s quite difficult not to. And as long as the Tobias (the man behind) is capable of writing songs like this (Sune Wagner would or should at least be proud if he had written this tune), I see absolutely no point in him changing anything.+ Heartbreaking Sound of Joy...

ICT - THE VALLEY OF THE DAMNED - Story but Petpositive
    2008-05-01 10:48:00
IT is often said that Information and Communications Technology helps to significantly improve our quality of life. Now, that may be true largely for able-bodied persons. But if you happen to be a person with a disability in our society like I am – along with countless others who still, sadly, stay hidden in our homes; I am sorry to say this to you: As far as such technology is concerned, you are practically screwed! The huge rainfall lately spelt disaster for me when lightning struck from nowhere whilst I was working on my computer. Luckily the electrical force was not enough to deliver a lethal blow to my computer. My phone line, however, was pulverized. My immediate reaction was to switch everything off until the storm had cleared. Then my real nightmare began. As a weekly columnist and active blogger I had urgent deadlines to meet. There was no time to waste in getting my Internet up and running again. I almost jumped for joy when a Telekom...

    Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve
    2008-04-09 15:17:00
It is now full season for California Poppy viewing. The season should last until at mid-May, with the flowers peaking over the next week or so. Most of the poppies are blooming on the south sides of the hills, but the north slopes have more of a variety of flowers such as owl's clover, forget-me-nots, wild onion, silver puffs, and red maids among poppies and goldfields. Now is a great time to head out to the Antelope Valley see this spectacular California flower show. There are a few things to remember for you enter the Poppy reserve: stay on the trail, Do NOT pick the wildflowers everything is protected and thre are high numbers of the Mojave Green rattlesnakes so watch where you step. This State Reserve, nestled in the Antelope Buttes 15 miles west of Lancaster, California, is located on California's most consistent poppy-bearing land. 2008-04-04 06:42:04
Japanese PierisPieris japonica 'Valley Valentine'(pee-AIR-iss) (juh-PON-ih-kuh)Synonyms: Andromeda, Lily of the Valley Shrub, FetterbushRecently I posted a picture of Pieris jap. ‘Flamingo’ and I thought that was one of the ‘reddest’ cultivars but this ‘Valley Valentine’ blooming at the Estate actually seems a little darker. It is really pretty up against the white varieties. The Pieris collection, which has about 60 plants of about 25 different cultivars and species is always special when it comes into flower. I know that it is finally spring and it is really the first group of plants that blooms all together. There are a few Cornus mas blooming right now and the Forsythia is just starting to show some color. If you look around in Connecticut gardens you can usually see some Andromeda. They are very popular and one reason is they are deer resistant.Pieris is easy to grow and can take sun or a good deal of shade. It likes rich organic soil and a cool root zone. It can toler...

The USC product's best season was his rookie year in 2004 when he had 47 catches. With Javon Walker released, Denver is looking for a No. 2 receiver. Brandon Stokley will be the No. 3 receiver. The Broncos could use their No. 12 on a receiver such as Cal's DeSean Jackson. Knight, 32, had 93 tackles and four interceptions for Jacksonville last year. Denver is looking starting safeties and he'd fit in. The Broncos have a need for safeties with John Lynch potentially on his way out of town, with free agent Nick Ferguson likely not returning and with restricted fee agent Hamza Abdullah potentially getting interest elsewhere. While I agree there is a need for a wideout, there is no way the Broncos pick DeSean Jackson at #12. ...

    Anderson Valley Double IPA
    2008-02-15 12:31:00
In honor of their 20th anniversary, Anderson Valley is releasing 22oz bottles of Imperial IPA. Weighing in at 8.7% ABV, and chock full of hoppy goodness, it's a great tribute to one of northern California's best breweries. The beer should be in stock by the time you read this, but my sales rep was kind enough to drop off a sample bottle yesterday, so for once I can tell you all about it before it's even here. I should have taken a picture or two, but in lieu of any visual evidence you'll just have to use your imagination. The beer pours a beautiful burnished copper supporting a creamy white head. The aroma practically jumped out of the glass and smacked me in the face with spicy, piney hops notes and a little alcoholic heat. There's definitely some sweet caramel and bready malt character in there somewhere, but this beast is all about the hops. More piney and citrus flavors coat the back of your tongue and a powerfully bitter mix of alpha acids and alcohol will leave your throat t...

There now are about 325, according to the Napa Valley Vintners Assn."Peter Newton was at the forefront of the California wine industry," wine merchant Paul Smith of Woodland Hills Wine Co. said this week. Driving down the valley is like taking a time machine back to the 1950s. The small towns of Fillmore and Santa Paula are much the same as they were 40 years ago. There are many produce stands along throughout the valley where you can stock up on local products. Fillmore is home of the Hollywood movie trains and Santa Paula has the California Oil Museum. Napa Valley California

Napa Valley has been called 30-mile long wine bar. This beautiful valley is full of scenic wineries which offer wine tasting to eager visitors. You can only build a home on the valley floor on at least 40 acres or 160 acres on the hillsides. This was done to prevent housing tracts from moving in the valley but has turned Napa Valley into a very expensive place to live.Napa Valley Wine Train Wine tasting runs from $15 dollars to $50 dollars and in the summer traffic can be congested. To avoid traffic on Hwy 29, try driving the Silverado Trail instead. Napa Valley is well worth visiting, you just need to plan ahead and avoid weekends and Autumn Harvest....

    Valley of the Kings
    2007-12-19 09:40:00
This Valley is on the west bank of the river Nile opposite the ancient city of Thebes (modern Luxor). The Valley of the Kings consists of two valleys, known as the East Valley and the West Valley, both of which were used for the burial of royalty and important nobles in ancient times. Altogether, the Valley of the Kings contains at least 63 tombs. Tombs in the Valley were cut into the rock to create an internal space with corridors and chambers. These were then decorated with wall paintings and filled with the objects that the king would need in the afterlife. The construction of the tombs was undertaken by construction and craft workers from the nearby village of Deir el-Medina. The kings still depend on the pyramids as a tombs until the end of the middle kingdom, as the pyramids of King Djoser. After that ,exactly in the new kingdom They took there tombs which was rock-cut tombs. The Valley of the Kings is very interesting, mostly because many pharaohs were secretly buried here...

Napa Valley Register Review, CéU live at the Napa Opera House
    2007-11-08 14:16:00
CéU: a little bit of heaven lands in NapaBy Michael WatersonA little bit of Sao Paulo — by way of New York and Paris — came to Napa Friday night when CéU performed at the Napa Valley Opera House. The hottest thing out of Brazil since Astrud Gilberto in the 1960s, the heavenly diva (whose name means both “sky” and “heaven” in Portuguese) is on a U.S. tour after the release of her self titled album on Six Degrees Records out of San Francisco. The CD was selected earlier this year as part of Starbucks’ Hear Music Debut series. Her show was as smooth as a Starbucks’ latte. Backed by electric bass, two drummers, a keyboard and a DJ (this is the 21st century, folks) the statuesque songstress performed a 75-minute set composed mainly of songs from her album. As great a venue as the Opera House is, it is probably less than ideal to experience CéU.With her irresistible bossa nova beat on songs like “Ave Cruz,” the usually comfortable orchestra seats became confining. A few b...

Travel Diary: Loving the Loire Valley
    2007-10-24 12:01:00
A quick test and I am happy to discover that I am indeed still quite adept at riding a bicycle that is not stationary. In fact, I am an old pro on this mode of transport – a veritable Lance Armstrong, if you will (alright I’m not in competition shape, but I can sit on a bike just as well as any Tour de France champion). In any case, I take to the biking trails (Loire à Vélo) along the Loire with fervor. I soon discover that this is a fab way of experiencing the majesty of the Loire as well as taking in a bit of the green beyond green French countryside. Running some 400 kilometers, the Loire à Vélo (www.loireavelo.fr) is part of a network of trails designed by the EU that will eventually run from the Atlantic Ocean in France to Budapest. For cycling enthusiasts, this is an itinerary must-do. ...

    Po Valley Brown Cloud
    2007-10-19 11:57:38

Fletch's Film Review: In the Valley of Elah
    2007-10-10 00:36:00
I wouldn't blame you for not recognizing the face to your left, notwithstanding the title of this post. Tommy Lee Jones wasn't particularly famous in his youth, making his way through guest spots on TV shows all through the 70s (Barnaby Jones, Baretta, Charlie's Angels) until a breakout performance in Coal Miner's Daughter put him on the map (I'm guessing; after all, I was only 4 years old at the time). Still, it was TV work through the 80s as well, though his performance in the epic (and star-studded) Lonesome Dove mini-series in 1989 made him a burgeoning star.Since then, Jones has been a fixture on movie screens, alternating between star turns (The Fugitive, Men in Black) and guest roles (Batman Forever, Natural Born Killers) in a wide variety of genres, playing an even wider array of types. Over the last 15 years, he's garnered a reputation as a modern-day version of an old school Western hero - tough as nails, a man of few words and strong actions. His dry, laconic way of speaking worked well in a straight action pic like The Fugitive and just as well in the black-humor tinged Men in Black series.Despite the rep, the man is capable of diversity; witness his over-the-top performance in one of the only Steven Seagal films worthy of watching (Under Siege), and his turn in the horrific Batman sequel as evidence. In the Valley of Elah provides a much more compelling case, as well as one that ought to be remembered come awards season.Jones stars as Hank Deerfield, a retired Vietnam veteran, husband to Susan Sarandon's Joan and father to two sons, each of who likewise joined the Armed Forces. The film opens with Jones getting a call stating that his formerly deployed-in-Iraq son (whose troop is now stateside) has gone AWOL in the States. As we later learn, Hank and Joan's first son was shot down while serving his country; with this knowledge in tow, Hank takes it upon himself to drive from Tennessee to New Mexico to find his youngest child. From there, the film is equal parts detective show and political commentary. "Inspired" by the actual story of Iraq war veteran Richard Davis and his father Lanny, writer/director Paul Haggis manages to be both subtle and blunt simultaneously in his observations and criticism of not just the current war (as most press surrounding this film will have you believe) but of the Armed Forces in general. The questions asked in the film are mostly ones that can't be spoken without spoiling the story, but suffice it to say that they focus on the psychological drama/trauma of being a soldier, the things that our country asks our soldiers to do, and the ramifications of those actions. By having Jones' character be a Vietnam veteran in the film (Davis was an MP), Haggis is able to put us in the shoes of someone who might be your stereotypical flag-waving patriot, right down to the detailed habits still stuck with the 50-something (shining shoes, neatly making his hotel bed, etc.). That said, a glaring error in the film is what is not spoken: namely, many of the things that are being painted as horrific actions done by Americans soldiers in Iraq are the same types of things that happened in Vietnam. Whereas many might use this film as ammunition against the Bush administration (his voice is heard in the background giving speeches on a few occasions), I saw it as a pointed finger at the military in general. Though actors are often awarded for showy performances, it's often true that the best acting comes with what's not said, and that is entirely the case here. Both Jones and Sarandon (underused but still excellent, and surprise surprise to see Susan in an anti-war film) seem to say fewer words than the minutes they appear onscreen for. Charlize Theron, as a detective who gets a bit too close to the case, is given some of the meatier work, and she is terrific as well. Jason Patric (where ya been?), Josh Brolin, James Franco (in a bit part), That Guy Barry Corbin and a number of lesser-known actors fill out the impressive ensemble cast. (Kudos as well to the 55 year old Frances Fisher for playing a strip club - Kathy Bates and Diane Keaton, eat your hearts out.)Despite a few Scooby-Doo moments in the solving of the case (no doubt embellished to a degree), the detective aspect of the film works, as Jones essentially makes both the local police (Theron included) and the military police look like amateurs. Whereas Haggis' Crash felt contrived with its connections at times, Elah rarely feels anything less than real, and powerful. It's a heartbreaking, depressing, political drama - surely not a popcorn film, but one that should definitely be seen.Fletch's Film Rating:"It's in the hole!"...

Issues with the Greater Las Vegas valley Home Owner Associations (HOAs)
    2007-08-17 04:08:34
The newer Las Vegas residential properties are built in subdivisions.  Subdivisions are real estate lingo for common-interest development. The fastest growing form of housing in the United States today is common-interest developments, a category that includes planned-unit developments of single-family homes, condominiums, and cooperative apartments. A homeowners' association is the governance function of a common interest development. This governance, created by the real estate developer, is transferred to the home or condo owners upon selling out of the project. HOAs are subsequently governed by the owners and officers are elected by owners. HOAs possess the authority to enforce the covenants, conditions, and restrictions of managing the common amenities of the development. Most homeowners' associations are non-profit corporations, and are subject to state statutes that govern non-profit corporations and homeowner associations. One interesting point is that in the Las Vegas Valley ...

Valley of love, Ravine of depthless joy, Intermammary sulcus, Décolletage (thats French noobs), Longkang is the few names that we regard as the ever so beautiful cleavage. For those girls that do not know what a cleavage is, let me help you. Put your hands straight by your side all the way down to your waist. Now slowly move the top of your elbow to the center of the body. You'll feel a press against your chest. There you go, you got your cleavage. Girls under 18, leave this blog now! Don't even bother trying. It won't work. Girls with flat chest, don't be sad. Wonderbra does wonders. Pay a visit soon yah.For guys that do not know what a cleavage is, locate the nearest wall. Okay? Start banging your head against it.Todays topic is extremely serious. Its about the art and power of cleavage. Its also part of Sun Tzu art of war. Its able to blind your enemy with distraction. With the art of cleavaging, guys attention are usually distracted. They eyes tend to circle around and around, trying hard to look at your face and take a quick peek at your cleavage. (I've done that) Now, this could be further enhanced with tattoos. With tattoos, the attention gets diverted even more. Words that was uttered from the opposite sex makes no sense. He would paused for 2 seconds. Watch out for the drools as well. Cleavage opens door for opportunities. You go through any kind of securities easier. You realized that promotion and pay rise comes faster than expected. The world seemed like a better place.Nowadays, its just everywhere. Its a total common sight in Myspace,in Friendster, beaches, clubs, and just many more.Heck they even have 'National Cleavage Day' in South Africa. Sigh, my opinion. Cleavage is not a bad thing at all. Its a two ways thing. You girls enjoy giving, we guys enjoy receiving. Would talk about the evolution of the art of cleavage in future posts. Good night students.http://engrish101.blogspot.com/atom.xml...
