| | Jared Allen to the Minnesota Vikings: What that means for us. | | 2008-04-23 00:10:18 | |
It only cost 31 million in guaranteed money, a first round draft pick, and two third round draft picks, but the Minnesota Vikings have traded for Kansas City Defensive End Jared Allen. Specifically it was a 6-year, 74 million dollar deal, and the 17th, 73rd and 82nd picks. Expensive, yes, but the Vikings get a 15 sack a year guy with thirty million reasons to play his tail off. Even when the Chiefs were horrible last season, Jared Allen was a bright spot.
There were a few of us in Jaguars land (myself included) who thought that trading for Allen would be a good idea. With the size of the deal, I'm pretty glad we didn't make him the highest paid player on the team. Though not because he's a risk, I believe it when his Chiefs teammates say he's quit drinking:
"I've seen Jared at a big party, out on the dance floor, where
everybody is drinking except one person. It's Jared, and he's having
the best time of everybody," said Chiefs... | | By: Big Cat Country - An Unoffical Jacksonville Jaguar | | |

| | Pope to Vikings | | 2008-03-15 06:12:00 | | One of the last players from the Wannstedt era last season was Derrick Pope. An undersized OLB from Alabama, I immediately liked the pick and loved the kid's enthusiasm. Him an Tony Bua really got after people. However, Pope never really amounted to anything more than a serviceable backup. There was absolutely no chance he was going to be on this roster because he doesn't fit Parcells' scheme.Fortunately for Derrick, the Vikings saw some value in him and signed him to a 1 year deal. Good luck to him.... | | By: State of Miami | | |

| | Dolphins interested in Williamson? Vikings interested in Lemon? | | 2008-02-22 13:59:02 | | Talk about swapping some bad players. As originally posted by hotrod43 in this diary, the Vikings are reportedly showing interest in free agent QB Cleo Lemon. Tim Graham writes that there are "murmurs the Vikings are highly interested" in Lemon. What do I think? TAKE HIM! PLEASE!!! Actually, it really doesn't matter if the Vikings take him or not because all indications are that Bill Parcells, Jeff Ireland, and Tony Sparano are going to let him walk without even giving it a 2nd thought. In fact, when asked about re-signing Lemon, Parcells said, "Hahahahahahaha!!" OK, I made that up. But if you did ask him, I bet that would basically be his response. Speaking of bad players, it's being reported that 8-10 teams are interested in Vikings WR Troy Williamson. One of them is believed to be...the Dolphins. Here's what some of this article says: David Canter, the agent for Troy Williamson, said today that eight to 10 teams have expressed in... | | By: The Phinsider | | |

| | Vikings at Broncos - What to watch for | | 2007-12-28 13:01:21 | | Last game prep of the year gang! I'm sorry it IS the last game of the season, and I'm sorry it's the second losing season in the Shanahan era. Like last week, there is plenty of bad news. But unlike last week, there is more good news I can share. I apologize for putting this story up later in the week than usual. I came across some surprising tidbits while studying the Vikings, and I'll share them with you below. Denver rushing Denver faces a tough rush defense in the cover-2 that MINN runs. In most cover-2 defenses the rush should be up the middle, since the LBs are typicaly zoned wide and are fast. No such luck against MINN. I have read descriptions of MINN being a Tampa-2 system team, but I think they are an odd variation of the cover-2 and not a true Tampa defense. This was my first surprise studying for this prep. First, they have strong, powerful DTs that do a great job stopping the run. They are willing to penetrate to go after the Q... | | By: Mile High Report | | |
| | Vikings DE Edwards Slapped with Four Game Suspension | | 2007-12-05 20:12:49 | | The Vikings got some bad news today as defensive end Ray Edwards was slapped with a four game suspension for violating the league’s policy against steroids. “It’s disappointing, but there are policies in place and our players have to adhere to those policies,” Vikings coach Brad Childress said. “Every team goes through challenges as [...]... | | By: NFL GridIron Gab | | |

| | No Adrian Peterson for Vikings this week | | 2007-11-20 09:05:16 | | From our fine Minnesota Vikings blog, The Daily Norseman, comes official word that Vikings all-world running back Adrian Peterson will not play this week against the Giants. Peterson, who set the single-game rushing record a few weeks back with 296 yards, is nursing a knee injury. Here is the 'Norseman's' take on what this means for Minnesota. So, for at least one more week, we're back to Chester Taylor as the starter at RB. After his performance on Sunday, with the 200+ yards of total offense and 3 TDs, I think we can be comfortable with that. The Vikings are going to need a big game from the rushing attack again in order to combat the Giants' insanely fearsome pass rush ... even though that rush got a little less fearsome with Mathias Kiwanuka suffering a season-ending leg injury in New York's victory over Detroit yesterday. We will have much more analysis throughout the week, so stay tuned.

| | Vikings Roll With Taylor | | 2007-11-19 10:15:00 | | I thought the Vikings-Raiders game on Sunday had the potential of being another "Leonard Pinth-Garnell Game," namely more "Bad Football, NFL Style." But it turned out to a pretty decent game. With Adrian Peterson sitting on the sidelines, Chester Taylor took over and the Vikings came out swinging. The scored the first time they had the ball, courtesy of Taylor's ten-yard run. But the next time they had the ball, Tarvaris Jackson proved he's still pretty green as an NFL QB. He was intercepted in the end zone, and the Vikings couldn't put Oakland in a hole. Former Viking Daunte Culpepper was flagged for downing the ball while in the end zone to give the Vikings a safety and a 9-0 lead (pictured).Oakland capitalized on numerous Viking mistakes. They turned three fumbles into field goals, and the game was tied 19-19 at the half. The Vikings won the game in the fourth quarter when Taylor scored his third TD on a six-yard run. The Vikings won, 29-22, as Taylor rushed for 164 yards, and had... | | By: The Mighty Quinn Media Machine | | |
| | Peterson Hurt as Vikings Lose | | 2007-11-12 10:43:00 | | It was an absolutely awful day for the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, as they were simply dominated all day by their archrival Green Bay Packers. It was no contest as the Packers rolled to an easy 34-0 victory at Lambeau Field. But that's not what concerns Vikings fans today. Late in the contest yesterday, Adrian Peterson left the game with an apparent knee injury, as he was hit by the Packers' Al Harris after making an 11-yard catch. It did not appear to be too severe, as he left the field under his own power. He will have an MRI done today in Minnesota. Hopefully it is nothing worse than a sprain. The game was broadcast live here in New York yesterday, so I watched most of it. (Fox left the game when Green Bay went up 27-0 for the game in Washington.) The Vikings run defense, the best in the league, was torn to shreds by little-known, former Notre Dame RB Ryan Grant, who became the first back to rush for over 100 yards against the Vikings this season. Brett Favre threw 3 TDS and passed... | | By: The Mighty Quinn Media Machine | | |
| | Vikings, Patriots Open With Victories | | 2007-09-10 18:33:00 | | I watched the opening weekend of football at Professor Thom's yesterday, and there was a good crowd of fans taking in the games. I think many stayed away because the Jets-Patriots game was on national TV. (The bar gets many more Pats fans when they are not seen in NYC.)Unfortunately, I was late getting to the bar, and I couldn't see the Vikings-Falcons game, as there was a large variety of fans from different teams, such as Eagles, Redskins, Bills and even Titans fans. So I had to follow the game via updates from the other games on the TVs.It was a game the Vikings were supposed to win and did. The defense was the story for the Vikes, who had six sacks and returned two interceptions for TDs, courtesy of Kevin Williams and Antoine Winfield. It was also a fine debut for Adrian Peterson, who was thrust into fulltime duty when Chester Taylor injured his hip in the first half.Peterson rushed 19 times for 103 yards, and made a great catch out of the backfield and scampered 60 yards down th... | | By: The Mighty Quinn Media Machine | | |

| | Vikings Take Adrian Peterson | | 2007-04-29 03:19:00 | | The Minnesota Vikings made Oklahoma running back Adrian Peterson their number one pick, at overall choice number 7, at the NFL Draft in New York today. It wasn't really a surprise, as the Vikes needed an impact offensive player, and many pundits figured he'd end up in Minnesota. The Vikings passed on Brady Quinn, and suprisingly, 20 other teams did as well, until the Cleveland Browns, his favorite team growing up, selected him. Quinn looked shocked that he fell so far in the first round, and looked a bit haggard when ESPN interviewed him after he was chosen. Also as expected, Jamarcus Russell, QB of LSU, was selected first, by the Oakland Raiders. The Jets selected CB Darrelle Revis of Pittsburgh, after they traded up with Carolina to get the 14th pick. The Giants took CB Aaron Ross from Texas at 20, and the Patriots took S Brandon Meriweather from Miami at 24.
