These old plans usually include materials lists, dimensions and instructional text. Each set of plans is in ONE file so you don't have to download multiple image files of different sizes and deal with sizing and printing them correctly. Some plans were compiled by others and they didn't improve them at all. All the plans I compiled myself were completely digitally restored and enlarged, improving the quality at least 100%. Old brown pages were restored to a crisp white to save expensive ink when printing. This process was extremely time consuming.

If you like cutting edge gadgets then you need to get your hands on a Wi-Fi radio, but what if you have a love for antiques? Alinke used a vintage radio housing and modified a Wi-Fi Radio to fit inside. At first glance it looks like an antique, well until you spot the LCD display anyway.
“I found a local vintage radio dealer in town. He’s a real purist and is only interested in preserving radios with the original electronics so he really didn’t have any interest in helping me out. It took awhile, but he sold me this box for $30.
After a few Google searches, I came across this product which seemed a good fit. Its not cheap though and goes for $300. I shopped around a little and was able to get one for $260. The other one out there is this one and is slightly cheaper but I needed to be able to attach a knob to the volume control for the retro look as opposed to an iPod like volume control.”

Salvation Sacks have been working on these new products, practical and very desirable, these bags are made from fully recycled fabrics.
They retail at around $145, but there is a lot of work involved in the whole process, first they have to search for the right fabrics, it has to be vintage. The fabric is then cut and combined to match the idea of the designers, they are then sewn together and as a final touch jewelry like earrings, necklaces, buttons and pins are added by either pinning or fixing to the bag, and finally and strap and tag are added to complete the package.
So the price you are paying is for a totally recycled, hand made bag that is one of a kind, no two are the same.

I'll admit I haven't delved much into this tangent of vintage wear as far as selling is concerned but it is interesting & I'm a sucker for anything little, cute & nostalgic.I do run into great kids stuff now & then, much of it in never worn condition, carefully tucked away in cedar chests & storage drawers. I found this little gem however stepped on & kicked almost under a bed on a dusty floor at a local estate sale, and you would almost mistake it for a dust rag, in all the jumbled mess of potential textile treasures. I've lovingly restored it ( and I use this term loosely) by giving it a really good soak & some new elastic and am saving it for a special little girl to wear when she's big enough. It's old, handmade & most likely has some ethnic origin. And I also wish I had one of my own about 5 times it's size.I have in my Textiles category a small assortment of baby whites. These are a source of endless facination for me with their doll sized dimensions, delicate embroidery, and wafer thin sheerness. They are for the most part fairly common still, are very easy to launder and often come with tiny matching bibs & bonnets.First of all, on my "to get, and looks really worth it" list is Anna MacPhail's The Well-Dressed Child: Children's Clothing, 1820-1940. Which is evidently full of photos (my favorite type of resource book) and seems to be filled with interesting info on this not so well known aspect of vintage attire. It seems after a bit of research & real life experience there are as many good reasons NOT to wear a hat as there is to wear one. But since I'd like to showcase a few of the vintage ones I stock, I think I'll accentuate the positive aspects of donning a chapeau.Hats are certainly not as popular as in recent decades, that's a certainty. It's been said umpteenth times but there was a time neither male nor female of the species went out of the house without one. Summer. Winter. Spring or Fall. And ladies hats in particular were literally little artistic endeavors - from the feathered architechtual wonders of the Titanic era to the intricately beaded skull caps of the Jazz Age right on down to the floppy brimmed 70s - they are all marvelous & amazing, sometimes absurd & surreal and certainly some are more wearable today than others.So how do you incorporate a "wearable vintage hat" into your wardrobe. I'm mostly referring to the hats that have survived from the 40s - 70s and can be found in bountious amounts on the web, in vintage clothing stores, yard sales, thrift shops & of course grandmas attic.Let's start with a celebrity, as always easy targets I say. In particular, one attending the recent Academy awards, which can always be relied upon to provide a treasure trove of fashion commentary material.I noticed actress Maggie Gyllenhaal right off watching the red carpet procession of luminaries -I think she's nicely illustrating the use of feathered head gear - which is elegantly encircling her head & perfectly topping off & tying together a sleek & glamourous look without looking dated. I think it might be cross between a headband and what I believe was referred to as a "whimsey" which usually included a matching net veil. Like aprons, they're another vintage textile that's irresistably cute & charming and hard to pass up. And they usually come in big bunches through an estate and every lady seemed to have them, often in copious amounts, evidently.What's great about that is many, many were stored away & never used (cause truly who wants a really used one now anyway) and they are made of some very fine fabrics - delicate cotton voiles from Switzerland, linen from Ireland and silks with intricate embroideries & patterns, etc. Some are fairly collectible for obvious reasons - they were designed by well known textile designers of the day who put a fair amount of artistry into the small square of fabric. Some are unique souvenir pieces from distant, visited places, some were brought back by sweethearts during the war, some commemorate holidays.Another great aspect of vintage hankies is they're rather inexpensive and still fairly common - so if you're thinking of jumping into the great and wondrous sea of collecting - starting a vintage hankie collection is great way to stick your big toe in.So I will be adding a selection of a few of some of my favorites - the 40s/50s era brightly colored cotton florals. They have the same appeal to me as do the printed cotton tablecloths of that era - conjuring up cheery warm feelings of home.And here's a link to an article with some fine suggestions for uses for them, from window valences to basket liners. Surely we don't want to use them for their original intended purpose (that's unsanitary by today's standards) and these days waving one around in the air & nonchalantly letting it flutter to the ground in view of a desirable male member of the species won't likely illicit the intended response. It's a real nifty thing to have a matching belt to your dress whether it's contemporary or vintage - but a minor annoyance to finding, buying or selling a vintage dress can quite frequently mean the matching belt is missing, often a rather nondescript belt that can easily be replaced with something generic & modern. But sometimes you can only assume that it was rather unique with details only a vintage belt would have.Most often when I present something that possesses belt loops & no belt for sale, I only mention it as a characteristic of the item & assume the future owner will come up with a suitable replacement, maybe something creative. Vintage wearers are known for their creativity anyway. Vintage scarfs, which come in so many different patterns & lovely silks & chiffons are often used to cinch the waist as a replacement and do just fine. They're economical too & can be had at copious amounts for spare change most of the time (as long as it's not a Hermes or something). And lots of garments can have their loops removed & look just fine sans belt.I've just added this Suzy Perette to my inventory -and of course it has loops, but no belt. The dress is a completely wearable stunner regardless but a good example of a good dress gone beltless.Here are 2 of my items that I've gone ahead and added an interesting belt to - this dynamite circle skirt -to which I added a contemporary corset style belt, which I think looks great.And I threw in this faux gold lame type belt (kind of 80s I believe) to cinch the waist of this full skirted vintage cotton dress that for some reason looked lackluster without it's belt even though the print is smashing - there was something about the combination of the two.... | | By: Mystique Vintage Clothing Blog | | |
