| FF-UN HOF Voting Results | | 2008-08-04 14:00:00 | | 51 votes were cast for the Familiar Face-Unknown Name Hall of Fame voting. Taking a page from the Major League Baseball HOF voting template, the rules were as follows: a potential member must receive 75% of the votes to be inducted. Candidates that receive fewer than 5% of the votes will be removed from future ballots.Online Surveys & Market ResearchIt was close there for awhile, but in the end, just one made the cut, and none came in below the threshold. As such, the remaining nine will be on the next ballot (coming around September), along with the next eligible member (Steven Tobolowsky, perhaps?) In the meantime, please give a big hand to the inaugural member of the FF-UN HOF, Mr. Steve Buscemi.... | | By: Blog Cabins | | |
| | | New Hampshire Democrats End Straight Ticket Voting | | 2008-07-14 19:02:32 | | New Hampshire is a state that has had straight ticket voting for as long as I have been voting. I don’t know how long the practice has gone on. You simply check the box at the top of the ballot for the party you want to vote for and you are done.

| All-Star voting | | 2008-07-01 10:40:43 | |
I began thinking about this after reading some comments on ACB, and for the first time in a while, I decided to change the way I've voted for the All-Star Game.
With the Cubs having a legitimate shot at the World Series this year, yes, as Overlord Bud says, this time it DOES count. As we've seen this year, if the Cubs do somehow manage to get to Baseball's Big Dance, having home field would help tremendously.
So, instead of voting for a lot of Cubs, I decided to vote and put the best team out there, even if it did mean putting Pujols in and leaving Fukudome out (sorry, bud).
And then I voted for the worst possible A.L. team.
Again, none of this will probably matter, since I'm just one of 2.5 billion that probably voted. But one voice, one vote, right??
Anyway, something to think about before the late night game. If you haven't voted yet, here's the link:

I'm in the process of getting ready to leave for a week or so, and have been running around all day. Okay, I had a spa day with a pedicure, manicure, hair, etc. It was well deserved and lasted most of the day. Therefore blogging is lite! Nearly 30,000 of the voting machines will be disposed of before the election.Six counties still owe nearly $33 million for the machines, but it is hoped that an attempt to sell them back to an electronic voting machine manufacturer will help make up those costs. The initiative is from Gov. Charlie Crist. The touch-screen machines contributed to confusion during the 2000 presidential election. Some counties will still use them for local elections in March, and a few will be kept for use by disabled voters. Source: www.miamiherald.com... | | By: Stroke News - We can change your life
| | | Clinton, Obama target early Texas voting | | 2008-02-28 20:07:00 | | AUSTIN, Texas - Voting on primary day is so yesterday. "Early voting is easy voting," said 47-year-old Robin Schneider, one of more than half a million Texans who has taken advantage of a state law that permits ballots to be cast before election day in the state's hotly contested Democratic primary between Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton as well as the Republican contest. The two Democratic presidential rivals have put a premium on coaxing voters and others like her to the polls early, with success.Which is why Bill Clinton stood on the back of a red Chevy pickup truck in El Paso recently, pointing to a nearby early voting location and asking supporters to cast a ballot for his wife.Source : http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080228/ap_on_el_pr/texas_early_voting... | | By: President World | | |

| | Voting for John McCain.... | | 2008-02-07 19:11:00 | | Yes, like many true conservatives the idea of me pulling the lever for John McCain isn't sitting well. Frankly, its doing about as well down there as the dinner scene in Alien. There are a lot of things that Conservatives are going to have to swallow when they walk into that voting booth and close that curtain. Let's take a look at some of the issues I have with a vote for John McCain.McCain-Feingold: At the center of every Conservative lies the Constitution of the United States. It is what defines our rights as citizens of this great nation. McCain-Feingold ran free speech through the ringers a couple of times, then spit it out on the pavement.McCain-Kennedy: Otherwise known to the entire nation as the amnesty bill. How many Americans were rallying behind this legislation? If you consider pitchforks and burning torches a success then it was pretty popular. The last time I checked, any form of amnesty is the polar opposite of good Conservative values.McCain-Lieberman: This one i... | | By: The Dissident Awakens | | |
| | US elections 2008 -> Who are you voting for ?? | | 2008-02-07 06:21:08 | | Now that Super Tuesday has come and gone, the race is still on. It is said that this will be one of the closest fight's up to date on either side. The Republicans seem to favor McCain but you still can't count out Romney and Huckabee. The fact is that McCain has over half of the delegates needed while Romney and Huckabee are trailing with 400 to 500 delegates, if McCain can get a few more wins he is most likely going to be the candidate for the Republicans. On the Democratic side the race is still going strong. Allthough Clinton is ahead with 823 delegates against the 741 delegates of Obama, they both have a long way to go for their target of 2025 delegates. It is old versus young, not only in differences between the candidates but also in voters, Obama is pulling in many votes coming from the young voters, many who haven't voted before. We would like to invite you to come and discuss this topic further on our forum and share your view with the rest of us.

| | Super Tuesday Voting | | 2008-02-05 15:03:00 | | The most entertaining aspect of voting day is interacting with the volunteers working at my polling place. It's always the same group of old ladies. Today's voting failed to disappoint. I brought my 10 month old, Cher with me in her stroller."Name, dearie?" asked the first woman at the registration table."Flake, like snowflake" I replied. Another woman, apprently not having heard our exchange asked loudly, "Name?""Flake. F like frank, L-A-K-E.""What?" she screeched."F-L-A-K-E""She said Flake," one croaks to another. After a few seconds of confusion, my name was located on the list."You're a Republican..." asks the first woman, the smile draining a bit from her eyes. Republicans are the Untouchables of Los Angeles. "Make sure you use the appropriate booth," she said, and indicated the row of empty Republican booths next to the crowded Democrat ones.I put in my vote for Mitt "too-legit-to-quit" Romney and tried to read through the state propositions. | | Why I am Voting Clinton – And Not Voting Obama | | 2008-02-05 14:14:16 | | Considering tomorrow I vote, it’s time to make an endorsement. It’s going to Hillary Clinton.Reason 1 – The (foreign policy) issuesI prefer Hillary Clinton’s positions to those of Barack Obama’s. I disagree with Mike Gravel’s positions so much that I won’t even mention his name in the rest of this article.Clinton has superior reasoning on nearly every major issue. Her positions on social issues may be slightly different than mine, but the president does not control domestic issues: Congress does.Instead, the president controls foreign policy and the military. Therefore, those are the most important issues in the presidential contest. Barack Obama doesn’t understand international issues as well as Clinton does. He would rather see the U.S. as a weaker state abroad; Clinton knows that the U.S. must sometimes project its power.Reason 2 – Hope is not as important as the issuesAs Massachusetts legislator Salvatore F. DiMasi put it, "To be perfectly honest, I really don't w... | | By: Thoughts on the World | | |
| | An American Warning - The importance of voting. | | 2008-01-17 09:13:00 | | Let's pack as much information into three paragraphs as possible....
In almost any scene, you can find someone who says that they don't vote because "Their vote doesn't matter". Voting is one of the foundations of our great nation. Without the vote and participation of the people of the United States, the only thing that is left is total government control. Believing that participation in both local and federal government is futile, will eventually lead to the downfall of everything that we know to be the United States.
People tend to not participate in anything when they believe their participation doesn't matter. Not participating excludes you from the essence of this great democracy. In turn, you give up your right of participation. Compiled with many others who believe the same, the government is forced to make many of the decisions based on the vote of a smaller populace. Many times, the government will make decisions based on what it believes is best and will move forward unless the people speak out. With your voice self silenced, their decisions moves forward. As a result, the government begins to grow. As the government grows, you have less control of your life which turns into a loss of personal rights. As the government grows, the taxes are increased to pay for the programs and departments needed to take care of the programs that are being initialized. The higher your taxes become, the less money you have for yourself. This turns into a lower standard of living. With higher taxes, you will find a redistribution of wealth to those who can't afford the things that you have. Examples include healthcare, transportation, housing, education, food, daycare, and a host of other programs that are taken care of by the government. But a redistribution of wealth is by definition socialism. Socialism is defined as an economic system in which the basic means of production are primarily owned and controlled by the government, or simply put; community of property. | | The Hall Of Fame Voting Is Here, And Another Choice Quote From Roger Clemens | | 2008-01-08 05:12:00 | | Today is the day that, if all is right in the world, Goose Gossage will roar into the Baseball Hall of Fame and Jim Ed Rice should also get the 75% of the votes needed for admission. IF ALL IS RIGHT IN THE BASEBALL WORLD. Gossage was a savage hurler who had many saves of more than one inning. And we all know about Jim Ed Rice, once one of the most feared hitters in all of baseball. The conditions are better than they ever have been or will be for his induction. This is from the Hartford Courant's ace sportswriter, Jeff Jacobs. He is my favorite sports scribe...."Gossage should roar into the Hall of Fame. Rice, a power hitter, should slide into the Hall of Fame barely under the tag of the naysayers.Gossage won 124 games, saved 310 and struck out 1,502 batters in 1,809 innings. He had 52 saves of at least seven outs. Mariano Rivera has one. With a 100 mph fastball, he was a two-inning knockout artist.Arguing Rice's qualifications has become as much a New England winter pastime as counting Patriots Super Bowl rings. I'm not going to bore you with all the talking points beyond saying Rice, who goes off the ballot after next year, deserves it in a close call."52 saves of seven outs or more! Wow!! Well said, Jeff. I'm rooting for both of them, because they DESERVE to be there. If Jim Ed did not suffer from nearsightedness, which affected his hitting and outfield defense in his later years, he would have played two more seasons, at least. And with those kind of numbers, he would already be a member of baseball's elite club. The Goose is a lock for today's vote, much like Obama is in New Hampshire. And yes, Obama IS a lock. He will make Hillary cry yet again.Speaking of the Hall, Roger Clemens, who will appear before a Congressional hearing next week, had this to say. Remember, he knows baseball's history and revels in it. For him to say this was unfathomable to me. Here you go..."Do you think I played my career because I'm worried about the damn Hall of Fame?" | | Voting Rant -OR- I Can't Think of a Decent Title | | 2007-12-16 22:48:00 | | It is Sunday so it must be time for “Kanrei's Rant.” That weekly douche for the mind of our favorite tinfoil cap wearing Lemming. So, without further procrastination, here's Kanrei(Insert theme music here)Don't want to be an American idiot. One nation controlled by the media.Information age of hysteria. It's calling out to idiot America.Welcome to a new kind of tension. All across the alien nation.Where everything isn't meant to be okay.Television dreams of tomorrow. We're not the ones who're meant to follow. For that's enough to argue.Green Day's American IdiotToday's rant is less of an actual rant and more of a plea; a plea for my country. You see, we are entering election season with the Iowa caucus happening any day now (I am too lazy to look up the date) and there are or will be commercials on television every few minutes reminding you to do your civic duty and vote. While true, it is only part of the entire “civic duty” requirement. The other part is research, homework, listening and analyzing, weighing consequences and values, and deciding something on your own for an entire nation. Those commercials telling you to vote are wrong and I am here to beg you not to vote if any of the following are you:I don't care who wins, they are all the sameI don't really know who is running.I always vote “blank” (either Republican or Democrat regardless of who they run)I don't know that much about the issuesIs there an election coming this year alreadyWhich one will cut my taxesI will vote for whom the L-rd tells me to vote forI vote for the one I like as a person moreI vote for who my friends vote forOn bended knee I am begging you not to vote if any of these sound like something you would say. Elections are too important of a matter to be left to random chance and public relation firms. Honestly, if a commercial can sway your vote then please, for the love of G-d, don't vote. | | The Reason Why Award Voting is Never Unanimous | | 2007-11-21 17:16:24 | | There's nothing wrong with a little disagreement. In fact, disagreement is the root of all baseball debates, and we all love arguing about our national pastime. But is educated disagreement too much to ask? Apparently so.I knew it would be a losing vote, but that's OK. As long as you follow your conscience, as long as you vote the way you think you should, and what your heart and eyes tell you -- even if it's in a lopsided minority -- then that's the way you need to vote.Be true to what you believe.Normally I'd agree with you. But when what you believe is based on a foolish and ill-informed conclusion, it might be wiser to be true to what others believe. This ballot happened to be for American League Most Valuable Player, a privilege I've had as a baseball writer more than a dozen times over the years. This is truly frightening.I don't blame anybody else for not voting for Magglio, though. They didn't see him play every day. They went by the stat sheet -- as I've had to do with most MVP votes. Why do we keep statistics, Tom Gage of The Detroit News? Mightn't it be because our memories and perceptions are fallible and subjective, and probably don't do justice to most of the players we watch? Aren't stats really the fairest way to judge one player's performance against another's? Even if you think your frequent observation of Magglio granted you a special insight into his performance, how can you be so willing to dismiss A-Rod's performance (despite statistical evidence which indicated that he was better) simply because you didn't grant him the same daily attention? But I believed in the vote for Ordonez when I cast it. And now, several wondering-why phone calls later, I still believe in it. I did it because I thought Ordonez was more valuable to his team than A-Rod was to his, but also for specific statistical reasons: such as the wide disparity between Ordonez's batting average (.363-.314) and more so because Ordonez hit .429 with runners in scoring pos... | | By: Between the Lines

At this point, I’m not 100% sure who I would vote for President in 2008.

| | Voting time again... | | 2007-08-15 22:23:00 | | Thanks to all who voted in the "pick your favorite Simpson" poll. Homer was the runaway winner with 45% of the vote, followed by a four-way tie between Bart, Lisa, Jessica and OJ (10% each) for second.Well, we're a little more than halfway through with August. Thank god for that. Now, let's set our sights on the fall movie season. I've listed some of the high-profile films hitting theaters over the next few months - let's see which one you're anticipating most. Also, this is my first go with Blogger's poll widget - let me know if you run into any problems. The choices:Beowulf - the latest from Robert Zemekis features Angelina Jolie, Anthony Hopkins, John Malkovich and some weird yet interesting computer animation (think The Polar Express).I Am Legend - Will Smith, a dog, and no one else on the planet. Or maybe some zombies. Ooohhh, scary. The Kingdom - long delayed actioner featuring Jamie Foxx, Hilary Swank, Chris Cooper and some pissed off Iraqis. Something like that. May be good,... | | By: Blog Cabins | | |

| | Early Texas All-Star Voting Returns | | 2007-06-01 02:58:33 | | Major League Baseball released their first update on the American League All-Star balloting on Wednesday, and things don’t look particularly bright for the Rangers’ All-Star chances - not that they should, anyway.
Ian Kinsler leads the club with 207,170 votes, sitting in 3rd place behind Robinson Cano and Placido Polanco for the voting at second base. However, Kinsler’s having a miserable May, with a .180/.267/.236 line and just 1 HR in 89 at-bats this month. Ian’s also 115,824 votes behind Cano, so he’s a major long shot to win.
Sammy Sosa is 11th in the outfield balloting with 195,549 votes, but he’s 166,696 votes behind Ichiro, who is in 3rd place and would win the final starting spot if the voting ended today. Sosa’s been decent but nothing great offensively, and I would suspect most of his votes are based off of his name rather than his performance.
Michael Young is the final Ranger listed in the results, sitting in 5th place with 129,307 ... | | By: Baseball Time in Arlington

| | Washington D.C. Voting Rights | | 2007-04-22 01:23:00 | | Washington D.C. is an interesting dot on the map; smaller than Rhode Island, but undeniably an area of great importance. Not being a state, D.C. is ruled by Congress and has no representative in either the House or the Senate. Yet, it pays taxes. For that reason and others, Washington D.C. should have at least one representative in Congress. No taxation without representation!“American nationals”, those that live in territories of the U.S., can move freely about the country and enjoy other benefits of citizens of the insular states. The factor that separates them from everyday citizens is taxation. Nationals do not have to pay taxes and cannot vote. Residents of D.C. have to pay and also cannot vote. If the president decided to make his primary home the one in the White House, would you want him to NOT pay taxes? No, of course not. Therefore, D.C. residents pay taxes. But this is straying from the point; D.C. inhabitants pay taxes, but cannot vote.Partisan bickeringD.C. is left-lea... | | By: Thoughts on the World | | |
