| Review: WALL*E & Star Wars: The Clone Wars | | 2008-08-17 22:06:31 | | Nothing much happened over the weekend for me, so I decided to watch to 2 movies in 2 days haha. I was really anticipating the latest Pixar offering, 'WALL*E', while I was dragged with my legs kicking to watch the other film, ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’. Here’s what I think…Review: WALL*EI always believed that the Disney’s greatest and most original characters were introduced to us way back during the golden years of ‘Snow White’, ‘Fantasia’ and even ‘The Lion King’. These characters and films stood the test of time and were cultural phenomenons that is and forever will be remembered for generations to come. But I wonder with the new generation of Disney characters, with the influence of Pixar, will they be just as timeless? The children in this age of ‘Playstations’, internets and 'iPods' were introduced to the staple of Buzz Lightyear, Nemo and Lightning McQueen, but will they survive the test of time? The new generation of youth being so fickle minded, and ... | | By: Random Rabbit Holes Into My Mind | | |

| Investment : Wall Street Does not a Bear Market | | 2008-08-17 05:10:00 | | We bear market, but Wall Street will never admit it. He is so strongly in the bull market, but want to speak bad times. I know the market is only leave 10-15% from its October 2007 peak, but just wait. I spent 32 years as a securities analyst at Wall Street, and unlike the current generation of young analysts, I have experienced several major downward cycle. Current economic and financial conditions, probably the worst depression in 1930. But this does not necessarily think that, if you listen to stock broker comment, TV media or the government. It was difficult to keep track of all the characters, especially those who have not quite an explosion, such as oil and commodities, commercial real estate, consumer loans and stocks. Busted bubbles are more obvious, but the extent and duration of damage is still unknown - residential real estate, sub-prime mortgages and CDOs, debt derivatives, banking and brokerage system, the U.S. dollar, the federal budget deficit and costs of bond insurers,... | | By: Finance fantasy | | |

| Playing Wall Ball | | 2008-08-06 11:19:00 | | The Red Sox bounced back nicely last night from the difficult defeat of Monday night, as Jason Bay had four hits and Josh Beckett pitched 6 2/3 solid innings as the Sox won, 8-2 in Kansas City.I watched the game on and off as I was hosting Trivia Night, so I can't really watch very closely. But I did see the ball that Jason Bay hit that I thought was going to go out. Royals centerfielder Mitch Maier had the ball hit off his glove (pictured) and it rolled along the wall until leftfielder Ross Gload knocked it down to the ground and held Bay to a double. (Jed Lowrie knocked him in with a RBI triple right after the play occurred.)It just goes to show you that you never know what you may see at a baseball game.It was a nice bounce back for Beckett, who had his worst start of the season last time against the LA Angels. He allowed just 2 runs on 4 hits, and struck out seven in getting his first win, his 10th of the year, in almost a month.Jacoby Ellsbury also had a great night, as he had two... | | By: The Mighty Quinn Media Machine | | |

| Bad credit mars Wall St bankers' summer break | | 2008-07-09 11:44:00 | | WASHINGTON - JULY is usually a quieter month for busy Wall Street bankers, spent lounging poolside at the Hamptons or on a Caribbean beach, but a nagging credit crunch has cast a dark cloud over such vacations.Major US banks, including Citigroup, Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase and Merrill Lynch, are due to unveil their second quarter earnings in coming weeks, and analysts say some results will not be pretty.America's finance houses are weathering one of the worst market downturns in decades as a two-year long housing market slump and a credit squeeze, which erupted last summer, continue to roil balance sheets. Some bankers believed at the start of the year that Wall Street would ride out the credit storm by the summer, but such predictions have proved premature.Lehman Brothers announced a net loss of US$2.8 billion (S$3.81 billion) for its fiscal second quarter on June 16, and America's seventh largest savings and loan bank, IndyMac Bancorp, said on Monday it was struggling to raise fr... | | By: How to be Rich, Happy and Free from Scams | | |

| Chrysler and Great Wall to share technology, distribution | | 2008-07-07 13:23:00 | | Most automakers are struggling with horrible US market conditions right now, but unlike competitors such as Toyota and Ford, Chrysler doesn't have sales in other areas of the world to fall back on. The Pentastar is looking to improve its fortunes overseas while also benefiting from low labor costs by partnering with the Great Wall Motor Company. The young Chinese automaker doesn't specialize in the small vehicles Chrysler needs here in the States, however, as the company's primary focus is on trucks and SUVs. The goal of the union is to share distribution channels, technology, and components, which should save both companies money in R&D and improve economies of scale. The deal is unrelated to a separate pact with Chery to produce a small, Dodge-branded car for sale in North America. With sales down in the states by 28% in June, Chrysler appears to be in the most trouble of the Detroit automakers in the near term. Branching out to other markets to drive down costs and add sales coul... | | By: Car News | | |

| India's Economy Hits the Wall | | 2008-07-06 12:10:00 | | Growth is slipping, stocks are down 40%, and foreign stock market investors are fleeing. Business blames the ruling coalition for failing to make reformsEconomicsJuly 1, 2008, 7:28AM ESTby Manjeet KripalaniJust six months ago, India was looking good. Annual growth was 9%, corporate profits were surging 20%, the stock market had risen 50% in 2007, consumer demand was huge, local companies were making ambitious international acquisitions, and foreign investment was growing. Nothing, it seemed, could stop the forward march of this Asian nation. But stop it has. In the past month, India has joined the list of the wounded. The country is reeling from 11.4% inflation, large government deficits, and rising interest rates. Foreign investment in India's stock market is fleeing, the rupee is falling, and the stock market is down over 40% from the year's highs. Most economic forecasts expect growth to slow to 7%—a big drop for a country that needs to accelerate growth, not reduce it. "India has ... | | By: How to be Rich, Happy and Free from Scams | | |

| Wall•E (review number 2) | | 2008-07-02 23:24:29 | | As much as I had started this hoping to write a review of a clever kids film I find it now to be, just as the film itself, much more. This is than not a review but an in-depth reflection. Also, I’ll assume you’ve already read either Matt or Paul’s review or seen the film and forgo any plot synopsis. Wall-E is a special type of movie¬¬– it is science fiction for children. Not only that but Wall-E is sci fi in its purest state, reflecting on human society and condition from the outside; and this time through children’s eyes. This movie stimulated in me what so much science fiction has overlooked: my heart. Lo, in little Wall-E all the short comings and pity I’d ever felt at the realization each time I watched Star Wars that R2-D2 and C3-PO were programmed AI machines were washed away and I saw a robot as human being and more. And that is the essence of appear for this film, a story which not only lights up neurons in the intellectual mind but touches and wrenches at t... | | By: Blast Shields Down | | |

| Dow's bear market run spells trouble for Wall St | | 2008-07-02 21:43:00 | | NEW YORK - WITH the Dow sliding into a bear market on Wednesday, the dark days on Wall Street are far from over, amid record oil prices, struggling consumers and the never-ending credit crisis. The Dow became the second major US index to enter a bear market, following the Nasdaq in February. The broader S&P 500 is a little more than half a percent from the same fate. News on the struggling economy could get much worse, with Thursday's government report on June payrolls seen as make-or-break. Any further worsening in the employment picture could stir more gloom about the health of consumers. 'I think we're seeing a capitulation of sorts and a sign that the market is really on its knees. The market needs a positive catalyst. It could be the jobs number,' said Mr Marc Pado, US market strategist and technical analyst at Cantor Fitzgerald & Co in San Francisco. 'Crude has a knife in our back and it keeps twisting,' he added. Oil jumped to a record close of US$143.57 (S$195.25) a barrel on W... | | By: How to be Rich, Happy and Free from Scams | | |

| Fletch's Film Review: Wall*E | | 2008-07-02 01:51:00 | | Derivative, repetitive, and mostly boring, Wall*E has to be considered the most overhyped, overrated piece of garbage (pun intended) of the new millennium. Tugging at your heartstrings with Louis Armstrong, Hello, Dolly and shades of R2-D2 is no way to make a modern masterpiece, much less one swathed in eco-morals and romance between inanimate objects.

| Movie Review: Wall-E | | 2008-06-29 20:38:36 | | Title: Wall-EDirector: Andrew StantonReleased: June 27, 2008Runtime: 103 min.Where Pixar found the cajones to make this movie I have no earthly clue, but they managed to conjure up the ghosts of Brave New World and 2001: A Space Odyssey and create an animated children’s movie the likes of which I have never seen, and truly doubt I will every witness again. Wall-E is, on the surface, a kid’s movie, but I’m hard pressed to fun much beyond the animation, the soft colors and cute robotic protagonist that is aimed at them. Oddly enough, this film is really for the very few adults who will actually give it the chance it deserves instead of snoozing while their kids stare at the wonderful animation.Introducing the plot feels hallow to me after experiencing the spectacle first hand, but Wall-E is the story of the last robot running on earth, who spends his days building skyscrapers of compacted-trash. He does his job tirelessly and efficiently, but with a little lunch pail. He is a c... | | By: Blast Shields Down | | |

Although I won't be able to celebrate with Miguel as I did last year, I won't be missing out. There may be a fireworks show at one of the parks here in the city. I may end up attending that or going with Miguel's friend Mary's family to another fireworks show. Miguel will be working that night, what a bummer. All the fireworks stands are open everywhere now. A very important guy - you get to invest several hundred billion dollars, with far fewer committees and shareholder interest groups harassing you than if you're the head of U.S. institutions such as CalPERS or TIAA-CREF.Last winter, you had delegations from all the big banks in New York explaining that they’d just had this teensy weensy hiccup in subprime mortgages and so were giving you an unparalleled opportunity to buy shares - or convertible bonds - at a modest discount to the market price. You bit and you bought - a few billion dollars in each of two or three of them maybe, a fleabite in terms of your overall funds to invest but real money for ordinary mortals. Now you open The Wall Street Journal handed you by a flunky to see how your investment is doing….And find it’s down an average of 15%. | Wall Art | | 2008-06-19 12:01:31 | | As everyone may already know, photography is one of my addictions besides blogging. I love to make lots of pictures everyday. I never leave the house without bringing my digital camera :D What scenes would I like to capture and why? Hmmm, I do like to make pictures about nature and my son. Why? Because nature is beautiful there are so many flowers, animals, insects and so much more with nature. Since I have my digital camera that I bought now 3 months ago, I love to make shots of flowers and animals because there is as option to use macro shots on it. I just love any kind of nature that I can make a photo of with my digicam. And I like to make many pictures my son, because I want to have a memory of how he grows every single day.At the "Learn to Dream" site, you can make your images become beautiful wall art to hang in your bedroom, living room or a perfect birthday's gift or wedding's gift or anniversary's gift for your best friends, family and someone you loves. | Is it Burn Out or a Really Big Wall? | | 2008-06-19 06:54:00 | | No matter what it is...I am fricken tired of it. It’s frustrating and pissing me off to no end. I hit 168. I am thrilled to be there. Really I am but I have been here for three weeks....AGAIN! And it sucks. I am determined to get past this wall though. In my hunting for my own “cure”, I found some fun stuff for you all.
First off, recognize that you have indeed lost some weight. Say you weigh 162 pounds and eat 1,900 calories a day. To lose a pound a week, you’ve got to cut between 500 and 600 calories per day. So you restrict yourself to 1,400 calories, and the weight comes off. But suddenly, after a few weeks, the scale refuses to budge. This is because with the weight loss, your basal metabolic rate has also declined, and where your body used to burn 1,368 calories per day, now it’s using only 1,080. At this weight, there’s less of you to move around, so you burn fewer calories working out. What this means for the newer you is that you are now ... | | By: Our Wicked Weighs

A YTL unit's joint venture in March 2007 was awarded one of several licenses for WiMax, a system for wireless broadband connectivity over a larger area than Wi-Fi hot spots can provide. This is the 10th consecutive year that YTL has won this accolade, 7 of which was in The Far Eastern Economic Review. Tan Sri Francis Yeoh, Managing Director of YTL group said, “ I thank all the readers for this recognition and I want most to thank our Lord Jesus for once again perfuming YTL’s name. I give Him all the glory.”By PETER JEFFREYWhen Morten Lundal took over as chief executive of the Malaysian mobile-phone company DiGi Telecommunications Sdn. | The worst may be behind for Wall Street - or not | | 2008-06-14 02:20:00 | | By Eileen Aj Connelly, AP Business WriterWall Street puzzles over whether market has hit bottom and what catalyst might trigger reboundNEW YORK (AP) -- Not long ago, it seemed like the worst was over. As the first quarter wound down, the credit crisis appeared to be easing, the housing market seemed like it might get some footing and Wall Street was growing confident that it had finally found a bottom after months of volatility. No one expected oil would shoot up 30 percent in just three months. With new record crude prices almost daily and more negative news for the financial sector combining to generate a new round of volatility, Wall Street is left in disagreement over whether there will be any kind of market recovery soon."Frankly, my concern is that some folks may be wanting it too badly," said Gregory Miller, chief economist at SunTrust Banks. "There is a bottom out there, we are going to get through this, but I'm in the camp that thinks this is very long process."Although the majo... | | By: How to be Rich, Happy and Free from Scams

| Wall Street and Main Street: In the Same Boat and Sinking Together | | 2008-06-13 14:24:00 | | Once upon a time, what happened on Wall Street didn't matter much to the folks on Main Street, and vice versa. But those days are long gone, as I discuss in the accompanying video with Dennis Berman, The WSJ's Global Deals Editor. This decade, particularly, the U.S. economy has been driven largely by debt financing. As a result, the Wall Street event known as the "credit crunch" has had a definitive impact on U.S. consumers. In turn, the constrained consumer is going to keep the downward pressure on Wall Street firms, whose profitability is tied to the securitization of loans, be they for homes, autos, boats, education, etc.In other words, we're all in this together, and a long way from the bottom.... | | By: How to be Rich, Happy and Free from Scams | | |
