| Watermelon Seeds | | 2008-08-21 15:42:00 | | I came across an interesting little piece in a magazine called The Metropolitan – ‘a monthly magazine devoted to Religion, Education, Literature, and General Information’ (1854). We don’t seem to ‘do’ General Knowledge any more, do we? Did I miss something? Did it become un-PC? Any good article raises as many interesting questions as it answers, I think. “The Watermelon is a fruit of great importance in China, especially on account of its seed, for which the Chinese are possessed of a real passion, or rather a most unnatural appetite. In some parts when the melon crop is abundant, the fruit is valueless and has no price attached to it except for its seed. Loads of melons are sometimes taken to the public road and given to passengers to eat, on condition that they save the seeds and put them aside for the proprietors. By this, not disinterested generosity, they have the gory of refreshing the public in hot weather and then avoid the trouble of working those veget | | By: The Old Foodie | | |

| Friday Flash..Watermelon KitKats | | 2008-07-24 19:13:00 | | Another addition to the KitKat range I spied in a local supermarket.Again its a limited edition i.e only available for a short time. The packet comes with the suggestion that you put the mini bars in the freezer. Not a bad idea considering the last week the temperature has hovered in the low to mid 30 degree celsius range. As to the contents, the bars do indeed taste of watermelon. As well, they are a little salty as indicated on the packet. Not sure if I would buy them regularly if they were available year round but they do make for an unusual summer treat. | | By: porcelain-monkey | | |

| Reflections on a Gift of a Watermelon Pickle | | 2008-06-12 14:27:00 | | While taking our afternoon constitution around and around the third floor of our building, a co-worker and I started talking about some baking plans. We talked about pies and making itty-bitty one-bite versions. And then we talked about making jam. I loved freezer jam as a kid. My mom and I would go out to Phillips Road in Webster and spend a morning at a U-Pick gathering basket upon basket of warm strawberries. I would proudly hold up large berries I found that were almost obscene with how deep red and luscious they looked. Later in the day, we would begin the cleaning process. I would be set at the kitchen table with a paring knife, wooden cutting board, and two bowls. One would hold the washed strawberries, the other the strawberries after I quartered them. Every so often my mom would check in and admonish me to cut especially large berries into smaller pieces before pouring cupfuls of white sugar onto the growing pile of cut-up redness. My next job was to decimate the berries | | By: In Java, Literally... | | |

| Watermelon Milkshake | | 2008-05-21 11:13:00 | | Watermelon - Whenever I think of watermelon, I remember the roadside shop selling them near my house during Summer (Of course in India!). Every day when we come back from school we used to get 1 watermelon piece and eat them all the way home. Huh...lovely days! Sweet memories! Watermelon, consumed in any form is tasty and healthy. We have watermelons with seeds and seedless. Undoubtedly I love the seedless. You know, seedless is less work. | FOTD : Nix'ie Cosmetics Watermelon Eyes | | 2008-05-06 07:56:00 | | So here is a quick face of the day that I did yesterday while playing with my Nix'ie mineral shadows, which I LOVE sooo much, see my review here. Believe it or not my inspiration for this wasn't an actual watermelon. Actually, it was an old bottle of Maybelline Great Lash mascara that I was about to throw out! I apologize that the tutorial picks aren't as detailed in showing every step as I normally do; but this was just started out as a quick experiment that actually came out pretty nice and helped me kill some time last night as I waited for The Hills (I freakin' love that show!!!) to come on TV.Below is what I used:FACEM.A.C. | Watermelon | | 2008-04-26 16:54:00 | | Ok so, remember that Watermelon Face Mask I posted about? I just tried it out.Verdict:I have oily skin. Your supposed to "crush the watermelon/mash it and then apply to face."Yea right... Unless you have someone applying it for you this doesn't work. I think a better idea would be to just take a small 1 inch cube and run it all over your face, or just apply the juice which drips after you mash it. It will work better since the "chunks of mashed watermelon" won't really stay on your face if you where to apply them.I applied the juice and I gotta say it felt good: cold so it was nice and refreshing. Smelled great too on top of it.I lay down for about 10 minutes and relaxed, then rinsed off. It left my skin soft and clean.:) I *think* my pores are a bit tighter too.I think these 1-fruit-face masks are great pick me ups but maybe not as good as the ones with more ingredients.Still.. I would use this one again if I have some watermelon around the house and wasn't in the mood to make another | | By: ~*Come Share My Fashion Addictions*~ | | |

| Watermelon- A Diet Friendly Food | | 2007-08-05 16:27:41 | | It is scorching out in my neck of the woods, and nothing is more enjoyable during the summer than a cold treat.
My favorite thing to do this time of year is to cut up some fresh watermelon, put it in a freezable plastic container, and when frozen, eat it with a spoon like Italian ices. | Watermelon Cake. | | 2007-05-14 10:01:00 | | Watermelon cake is an idea of a cake rather than a recipe. There are several interpretations of cake-in-the-guise-of-a-melon in American cookbooks from the 1870’s to 1930’s, and surely it is a fun idea worth re-discovering. T.W.Barritt over at Culinary Types has done just that in his latest Retro Cake Challenge. Do go over and drool, it looks gorgeous.Quotation of the Day …Mark Twain said: “The true Southern watermelon is a boon apart, and not to be mentioned with commoner things. It is chief of this world's luxuries, king by the grace of God over all the fruits of the earth. When one has tasted it, he knows what the angels eat. It was not a Southern watermelon that Eve took; we know it because she repented.” | | By: The Old Foodie | | |
