Designing a Simple Online Note Keeping Web Site
    2008-05-14 01:57:19
From the start of Web 2.0 everything from Bookmarks to Spreadsheets and Office packages to RSS Readers has become an online thing. In that spirit we are going to create an Online Note Keeping application in PHP which would give us the power to keep our notes online. That means all of our notes will be accessible from anywhere the Internet is available that too secured with user authentication. We are talking about storing notes so obviously we’ll need either a database or file to store the data. For now we’ll use a file instead. To store notes in a file we need to create and follow a format (the way each of the notes will be stored). For each note there will be a Title, Date and Time it was written and the actual Note. So I think the following format will be fine: <Title> <Date & Time> <Body> We’ll follow this for each note we store into the file. Talking about the interface, user will first be presented with a login

How To Increase Targeted Web Site Traffic
    2008-05-10 14:23:00
**By: The LegendSome people get on average around 10,000 to 12,000 unique visitors to thier main sites each month. Actually, when you're speaking about the Internet, that's not too much to brag about, but it's better than getting say 1000 or 2000 visitors; that was they usual rate until they aggressively went after targeted traffic for their sites.they thought they would briefly and in very simple terms explain how they increased the targeted traffic to their main sites from around 1,000 to 10,000 unique visitors each month. That's a ten-fold increase -- they are aiming for a hundred-fold increase but would gladly settle for thirty or forty times the traffic. How did I increase my site's traffic? The answer might just help you get more traffic to your own site. Most of these techniques are very simple to implement and if you're serious about building an online business, lets face it, the first thing you're going to need is targeted visitors to your site.I hope you have noticed I have me

Must Have Features Your Web Site
    2008-04-14 05:23:20
Just don’t focus on the home page, keywords and titles: The first step to sales when customers visit your site to see the products they were looking for. Of course, search engine optimization and better rankings can’t keep your customer on your site or make them buy. The customer having visited your site, now ensure that he gets interested in your products or services and stays around. Motivate him to buy the product by providing clear and unambiguous information. Thus if you happen to sell more than one product or service, provide all necessary information about this, may be by keeping the information at a different page. By providing suitable and easily visible links, the customer can navigate to these pages and get the details. Understanding Your Target Customer: If you design a website you think will attract clients, but you don’t really know who your customers are and what they want to buy, it is unlikely you make much money. Website business is an extension or repla

Agencies Still Beat Airline, Travel Retail Web Site Prices
    2008-03-25 04:05:00
average $56 less than identical itineraries directly booked through airline Web sites or through online travel retailers like Expedia, Orbitz and Travelocity, according to Topaz International research released last week.Topaz said travel agency fares were less costly on nearly 95 percent of itineraries compared with the same itinerary available online to the public. However, Topaz said its research shows the savings gap has closed steadily since it initiated the research in 2001, when the chasm between online public fares and agency fares averaged $171. Though the $56 differential recorded in 2007 matches the lowest gap in 2005, corporate travel agencies have grown slightly in lower-fare reliability: Topaz said agency fares in 2001 were cheaper just over 93 percent of the time, a figure that since grew steadily to last year's 94.85 percent.

SEO Copywriting Tips – How to Write Great Web Site Content
    2008-03-24 07:47:00
Keyword research: This topic deserves a whole article on its own, but suffice to say that you'll want to base your site content on the keyword terms that you know are most popular among the audience you're trying to reach. There are online tools available that can help you determine the right keywords for your company. Among them are WordTracker and Keyword Discovery. One topic per page: If your company makes 5 different products, you'll need to devote at least one page per topic. Details, details: Each topic should be covered in enough detail that the site visitor can determine whether to contact you for more information. From an SEO standpoint, the more detail you provide on each topic, the more easily the search engines will be able to determine the relevance of your site to that keyword. Kill the sales brochure: Internet users don't appreciate going to your web to find only a sales brochure. Avoid flowery language; it usually signifies a page that's light on conte

10 Tips for Designing an Ecommerce Web Site
    2008-03-17 06:24:00
Want to sell your goods directly from your site? Here are 10 tips:10. Design for your target market. Find out who your potential customers are and why they come to your site (i.e. where they are on the consumption cycle.)9. Identify your objectives for the site and introduce content accordingly. One Internet marketer tells the story of erroneously marketing an automotive book as an aid to car repair then discovered that the real market for his publication was buyers of new cars.8. Be cautious about using offline marketing material on the Web. Print material often does not lend itself to Web content and usually needs to be modified.7. Engage the viewer with dynamic environments. Allow the customer to experience the site - not just view it. Chat features, forums, solicited feedback, and database delivery of custom content go a long way.6. Provide good navigational structure, including search capabilities for larger sites. Viewers enter your site at various webpages - they should be able

Google Sites offers simple tools for collaborative Web site creation
    2008-03-01 03:36:00
Google on Thursday plans to introduce Google Sites, a new addition to its Google Apps suite that provides simple, intuitive tools for collaborative Web site creation.Google Sites is based on the wiki technology developed by JotSpot, which Google acquired in October, 2006. The word "wiki," however, appears to have been lost during the move."We see Google Sites as bigger than a wiki," said Matthew Glotzbach, product management director of Google's enterprise group. "It's as easy to edit as a wiki, but looks as good as a Web site. ... One of the challenges of wikis, even though working with them is easier than working with HTML, is that they're built by IT for IT, and not with the end-user experience in mind."

    Web Site Design Mistakes
    2008-01-18 03:12:00
by Halstatt PiresSome wise human once said "Learn from the mistakes of others. There isn't nearly enough time to make them all yourself." Hence this article. Here are five of the most annoying and common web design mistakes.1. Slow download time - Don't be that site that is filled with the coolest gizmos in the world. You know, animation, music and other "cool" things. Why? Because nobody is going to go to it because it takes too long to download. A nice clean site that downloads quickly will get you much further than a site with all the fixings that takes forever to download.2. Unreadable text - If a user has to struggle to read the text on your web site, chances are they won't. Here are some common readability issues:A. Low contrast text and background - Don't use light colored text on a light background. Also, don't use dark text on a dark background. Text is most easily read with extreme contrasts between the background and text. Black on white is about as good as it gets for

How to Build a High Performance Web Site
    2008-01-16 20:06:00
Every company or organization wants to deploy a web site which will reach its clients, project certain image, and help solicit new business or members. Most companies, organizations, and individual entities prioritize the overall look and feel of a web site, and assess the final web site based on its ability to provide information in an organized, easy-to-read way. These are all important issues in web site construction. Yet, other aspects of web site development need to be addressed in order for a web site to be an effective marketing tool for a company.Search Engine Marketing Produces IncomeIn order to produce income, increase membership or visibility, speak directly to niche markets, or generate new leads, a web site must be outfitted properly for search engines. This means that all of the text should be easily ‘crawlable’ by spiders and bots. The web design is integral to this process, but is not central to the process. A web designer should work hand-in-hand with a web site pr

Advantages of a web site template
    2007-12-26 22:47:00
So, you are just starting your company or web business and what you immediately need is a web site. But you don’t have thousands of dollars to hire a web design company and you also want your web site to be launched as quickly as possible. Well, one possible answer to your dilemma is a web site template. What is a template? A web site template, also called a web template or web design template, is a ready-made web site which allows quick customization to suit your business needs. What are the advantages of a web site template?1. What you see is what you get. Usually, companies that provide templates (like www.creativebynature.ro) offer the possibility to choose from hundreds of web site templates, so you don’t need to worry of how your project will turn out. You actually select the one you like most.2. It’s fast. Working with a web site template greatly increases the speed of the creation process. You don’t have to wait for weeks until your project is done. No need to hassle over original concepts, color schemes, layout etc. In fact, the more time you initially spend in planning a website’s purpose and features, the less time the actual site selection and creation will take.3. The price. Web site templates are much cheaper that hiring a web design company or a professional designer. This can literarily save you hundreds or even thousands of dollars.4. High quality. Web site templates companies use professional designers to create compelling templates so you don’t need to worry over the quality of their work.5. Easy customization. Depending on the type of template, anyone with a basic HTML or Flash knowledge can easily customize the web site template. If you don’t know any of these programs, don’t worry; almost every major template company offers the possibility to further customize the template you’ve just bought.6. User friendly. As already mentioned, the design and layout of a web site template is created by professional designers, so usability s

Five Top Opportunities to Optimize Your Web site
    2007-12-18 01:34:00
Opportunity #1: The Importance of Link Building Link building is by far the single most important SEO tactic that can be applied to increase search engine rankings. A Web site could have the exact same content posted as its top competitor’s site, with the only difference being the number of in-bound links that Google has indexed for the two sites. For instance, an in-bound link is a link to your Web site that is located on someone else’s Web site. For the sake of this example, let’s assume that Google has indexed 100 in-bound links to your Web site and 500 links for your top competitor. Despite the content being identical, Google will rank your competitor’s Web site higher, and potentially significantly higher, based on this critical measure of site popularity. We used Google for this example because approximately 41 percent of all Web searches take place on Google. This is a staggering number. Google’s nearest competitor is Yahoo with 28 percent market share and MSN is a distant third with 9 percent. To find the number of in-bound links to a Web site, go to Google.com and enter link:www.insertyourdomain.com into the search field and click Search.Opportunity #2: The Power of Page Titles How many times have you visited a Web site and the Page Title (the white text within the blue bar found in the upper-left corner of your browser window) reads “Home,” some variation of the company name, or maybe a generic header for the content section just entered, such as “Products”? This is a significant missed opportunity, and here’s why.Google uses the Page Title within a Web site’s code to develop and display its search results. For example, the links representing each of the sites within Google’s search results are pulled directly from the Page Titles of the various sites. Figure 1 shows the results of a search for the keywords “Kohler wholesale” on Google. An AVS Group client is displayed as the number 2 ranked Web site out of 834,000 competing Web si

HTML based web site and Flash web site.
    2007-12-07 20:55:00
The web development can be classified into two types accordingto the appearance and the technology used. One is the textbased or it can be said as a web site which has texts and lessgraphics or images. The other type of web site is the one whichis eye catchy and the one which attracts users or browsersthrough their images or graphics. Technically these twowebsites are said as HTML based web site and Flash web site. There is a famous quote which says pictures speaks more thanwords but, according to the web world the sites developed inHTML are ranked higher than the flash web sites. Searchengines cannot read flash based web site also it is verydifficult to optimize a site developed in flash to rank better. But it is not impossible, harder. The search engines love HTML, it is enough for a programmeror a technical person to optimize a web site developed in Flashto have better page ranks. The technique is called as Cloaking. In cloaking the user while browsing through the site can seethe Flash version of the web site and while the search enginecan see the website only as a HTML web site. That isshowing user the actual web site developed in Flash andshowing the search engine bots as HTML tags. There are many server scripting languages which help incloaking. The languages are PHP, ASP and HTAccess. The other way instead of showing two faces of a website, one to the browser and one to the search engine it ispossible to have good rank for a Flash web site. It is theusage of keywords and concentrating on title tags. But thekeywords should not be often repeated. It is so because thesearch engine may consider it as Spam. The title tags shouldnot be longer. These are the easy way to bring up the rankof a flash web site. But above all, the user and the developermust feel comfortable while using the flash web site. This can be said as easy navigation rather than tricky ones, rather to be an entire flash web site HTML can be combinedto give a greater look to the site.Article written by Jous

Noone's safe these days...Another inconvenient truth: Al Gore's Web site hackedThe Web site for Al Gore's film, 'An Inconvenient Truth,' has been hacked.Robert McMillan (IDG News Service) 27/11/2007 12:24:32A blog set up to promote former US Vice President Al Gore's film, "An Inconvenient Truth," has been hacked and is hosting links to Web sites hawking online pharmaceuticals. The links appear to have been created as part of a scheme to boost the Web traffic for sites that promote the drugs, security experts said Monday. They contain titles such as "Xanax On Line," "Viagra," and "Buy Valium Online."Cyber scammers have been using this technique for months now, packing hacked Web sites with links to their products in hopes of bumping up their rankings on search engines such as Google and Ask.com. Evaluating Web Site Performance
    2007-11-18 22:49:00
Setting up a website is the very first step of an Internet marketing campaign, and the success or failure of your site depends greatly on how specifically you have defined your website goals. If you don't know what you want your site to accomplish, it will most likely fail to accomplish anything. Without goals to guide you in developing and monitoring your website, all your site will be is an online announcement that you are in business. If you expect your site to stimulate some form of action, whether it is visitors filling out a form so a representative can contact them, or purchasing a product, there are steps you can take to insure that your website is functioning at peak efficiency. One of the first indicators of how well your site is working for you is finding out the number of visitors in a given period of time. A good baseline measurement is a month in which you haven't been doing any unusual offline promotional activities. However, just because hoards of people have passed t

How to Enhance Your Web Site with Header Graphics
    2007-11-18 21:36:00
So you're making your own web site. You've been working on it for a while, you have some good content, but something is still missing... cool graphics! Let's face it: a web site without nice graphics is like a TV show without color. It's boring and drab and won't look very visually appealing. You want your site to catch people's attention and make them say, "Hmm, this looks interesting, I think I'll check it out". One of the best ways to do this is to have a good header graphic at the top of the page. What is a Header Graphic? A header graphic is an image consisting of three parts: a background, a title, and a sub-heading. For example, let's say you are building a web site about dogs. Your background might be a scenic view of a city park with a few dogs running around having a good time. Your title might be: "Dog Lovers Paradise". For a sub-heading, you could either use the URL of your main web site (www.yourdomainname.com) or a line of descriptive text saying what your site is about: "all the info you need to be a good dog owner", "buy discount dog food here", "how to take care of your dog", etc. If you are running on online business, you could put your business slogan here. How do I get Header Graphics? There are 3 main ways to get header graphics, depending on how much time and money you have available: 1. The expensive way - hire a professional graphic designer to make them for you 2. The cheap way - buy a customizable set of pre-made graphics from the Internet 3. The free way - make them yourself! Option #1 may be great for big corporations that have a lot of money, but it's not so practical for small businesses or individuals who make web pages as a hobby. Sure, you might be able to hire a freelance graphic designer who will charge $50 per graphic or something like that, but even that's a lot of money for most people. When I design web sites, I prefer option #2. This is a great balance between time and money. It's easy to find header graphics packag

    Cost of a Web Site
    2007-11-18 12:50:00
A common question asked and often not answered among web designers is: what is the cost of a website. This is a complicated question as there are a lot of factors, custom web design work isn't like the retail industry with clearly defined price points. Below, I'll go through a few of the factors, and then, even go into the hard numbers.Hard CostsThese costs are pretty fixed, there are certain things you need to host a website that can't be avoided:Domain name: from $15-35/yearHost: from $5 to thousands per month, depending on the traffic and services. For example if you are hosting a direct to drive movie service, with tens of thousands of users, this won't be cheap. For most businesses this cost will be closer to $10-$30/month.PreproductionThis is the stage before your site itself is made.Photography: both the purchase of stock images and hiring a photographer can be expensive. This could be anywhere from $0 to thousands, but I'd recommend setting aside a few hundred dollars if you don't already have high quality images to work with.Content writing: some clients save money by creating their own content, otherwise budget $25-$50 a page.Copy editing: if you do provide your own text, you'll still want your designer to proof it, and ensure it's "web-ready". Likely only a few hours work, so $50 is another safe budget.Video: if you need to shoot video for flash movies on your website, much like photography, the cost varies depending on what you need.High fidelity testing and focus groups: The most important part of preproduction is trying to minimize wasted production time. Focus groups and surveys are a great way of ensuring all of the elements you want in your website are desired by your users. Costs can go from $0-$1000 depending availability of participants, space rentals, meals, and of course analysis of the results.ProductionNow is where the real work begins.Design: a small site may take 10 hours of work, a large one 100 hours. Designers charge anywhere fro

Avoid These 5 Web Site Blunders!
    2007-11-11 04:42:00
The Web is intended to help people find information quickly and easily. So why do so many sites make it difficult for users to get what they need?As president of a copywriting firm that writes and edits dozens of online projects a year, I've come across several common blunders that prevent effective communication via the Web. Here are my top five:BLUNDER #1: Hiding who you are and what you do.It's sad that many sites make it a challenge to figure out what they're about. Yes, it may be cool to have a giant dancing logo on your home page, but don't forget WHY your visitors are there: to learn what you can DO for them! Be sure your home page includes a *short overview* that clearly and concisely describes what you have to offer. It's also a good idea to repeat your tagline or a short mission statement on *every page* of your site. Why? People can pop in and land on an inside page via a search engine/directory link that you may not be aware of. Make sure they know who your are right a

    Creating Your Web Site
    2007-11-04 22:16:00
Before talking to the Web Designer of your choice there are a few things you must do. Keep in mind that your website will be created by both yourself and your web designer. It will be a joint effort. You must communicate to your designer exactly what you envision and what you want to accomplish. Remember, this is YOUR site! You own it! 1. Ask yourself why you want a website and what is it you wish to accomplish. 2. Are you selling something? Information? Items you have created? Services?3. Identify your target market. In other words, whom do you want to sell to? Things to consider in the layout and design of your page.* Content: This is THE most important aspect of your site. After all, the content is what you want people to see! Be specific. Don't put long paragraphs of text on your pages unless you are selling information or providing instruction. People want to find information quickly and easily.* Graphics: Sites that take a long time to load lose visitors. Don't use large gra

10 ways to make your Web site 'sticky'
    2007-10-16 06:42:00
Here are 10 ways to make your site "sticky."1.Comfort your visitors with familiar items and navigation. Think about walking into a department store or supermarket for the first time. Previous experience tells you where to go to find what you need because there are conventions — established and traditional traffic patterns for you to follow. Similarly, there are online standards now to help orient visitors, making them comfortable and ready to learn more.In a recent study, Nielsen's consulting firm, the Nielsen Norman Group in Fremont, Calif., found the following page elements on roughly four out of every 10 sites.• The term "site map" for the site overview• A different color after links are clicked and expired• Shopping-cart links in the upper right corner• Left-hand navigation for peer-level links• Logos in the upper left corner• When used, search boxes on the home pageThere may be other standards that apply to your business or industry. Check out competitive sites and, if you decide to flout convention, have a good reason.2. Keep it simple. The faster and easier the navigation, the happier your customer will be. If you're launching an e-commerce site, it might pay off to outsource some of the complex management and tools you'll need, such as with Microsoft's Commerce Manager. And set up a plan to monitor every page periodically so that you catch broken links and make sure every page loads quickly.3. Offer a guided tour. "Find out who your visitors are and make suggestions about where they might want to go," says Thomas Obrey, co-founder of PixelMEDIA, a Portsmouth, N.H., Internet services company, explaining that it can be done via navigational cues or by a click-by-click page tour or demo. "It's the same concept as a salesperson greeting you at the store, understanding who you are, and guiding you to what you want."As an example, Obrey points to the ECCO shoes site (www.eccousa.com), which his company recently redesigned. "The site is 100% engi

5 reasons to track Web site traffic by Monte Enbysk
    2007-09-15 12:49:03
If you have a Web site that means more to you than just a brochure for your business, here are five ways a Web analytics tool can help:1.You can evaluate the effectiveness of your marketing efforts. If you're spending a lot on search engine ads and keyword buys, you need to see which ones are performing and which aren't. Web analytics tools let you see which search engines are sending you traffic as well as the most popular keywords used to find your site. What if you aren't spending any money at all on online marketing? A Web monitoring tool will show you the gaps and holes in your search engine rankings and results, and very likely how you can shore them up with search engine submissions and/or keyword buys. 2.You need to know where your traffic is coming from, and why. Are search engines your site's biggest source of traffic? Or do you have little-known but significant on-ramps from other Web sites, perhaps complementary companies who are potential business partners? Also, are your efforts to generate new customers and sales leads (such as newsletter signups and free product trials) working or not? FastCounter Pro, for example, contains a "referrer" section showing who is sending you traffic — by specific Web page, by domain and by domain type (such .com, .edu, .gov, etc.). 3.You need to know what users like and don't like about your Web site. Web site monitoring tools identify your site's most requested pages, as well as your most common entry pages and exit pages. "If you know what is working well, you can optimize your site to provide more of it," says Helen Chan, a small-business technology analyst with The Yankee Group, a technology research firm. But knowing your most common exit pages can be just as beneficial, Osmeloski says. "Where users bail out is important. Maybe you're losing people because of the content on that page," and you need to change it to something more intriguing or compelling, she says. 4.You need to know about any defects on you

Give your Web site a facelift: 11 tips by Joanna Krotz
    2007-09-12 10:18:02
Here are 11 ideas culled from Web marketers and developers that can modernize your site swiftly without costing you a bundle.1.Reduce the number of site pages. Focus on redesigning only the core 10 to 15 pages, suggests Matt Greer, chief executive officer at Zeeo Interactive in Boston, a Web design services company. You can then archive any remaining popular or highly trafficked pages into Adobe PDF or Microsoft Word documents that are suitable for download. 2.Make the site a marketing tool. If you're not yet capturing data basics, such as which sites and search engines visitors are clicking from or which pages are most trafficked, get cracking.Use prepackaged software or a Web services provider such as Microsoft's FastCounter Pro to capture detailed information about site visitors. "The first question to ask is: 'When visitors come to your site, what do you want them to do?'" says Erin Duckhorn, spokesperson for Crucial Technology, an online memory upgrade provider based in Boise, Idaho. Once you have answers, you can define the tracking metrics and develop the content, navigation and structure that will quickly satisfy your targeted visitors. 3.Set up an e-mail program. Create an incentive for visitors to register or give you their e-mail addresses. "Give away something that the targeted audience would perceive as value for their exchange of personal information, like a prize for consumers or a white paper for business-to-business clients," suggests Jeff Stanislow, president and CEO of Motor City Interactive, a digital advertising agency in Novi, Mich. Once you have addresses, send out useful e-zines or other bulletins. 4.Create an online reward for prized customers. Treat your best customers with distinctive perks or discounts. "You can give them their own area of the site without any special technology," says Wally Bock, a Web consultant in Wilmington, N.C. You can also, of course, e-mail special offers. 5.Speed loading time. In the beginning, fancy graphics

The structure includes two distinct parts, layout and semantic tags. I desperately wanted a three column layout, so the visitor to my web site can see more links in the side bars. About three years ago three column layouts were all the rage in the web master community with many articles and demos about the subject on the internet. But doing a three column layout offers no advantage in search engine optimization. In order to gain maximum advantage over competition web sites mine had to have a special kind of layout called source ordered three column layout. It means that by using a CSS2* trick the sear

Commercial real estate is not meant for civilians.3: People had to be able to find it relatively easily.4: It had to be aesthetically pleasing; the rule of thumb is that web page readers decide to stay with a web site in under six seconds.5: The web site had to be easy to navigate and all the information in the web site should be reachable within three clicks if possible. This is all good. The number of Las Vegas real estate agent reps (unless you are a Las Vegas real estate broker you are called a real estate agent representative since you are representing your broker) went from under 10,000 to 17,000 in no time and everyone, especially brokers, made a lot of money since those who got their real estate license would buy a property for themselves and one or more others for a relative or friends. So I started attending a real estate school, passed the test, waited for three month for the background check which is a Nevada Government requirement and got my license. Web Site Development Process Tips to turn the tide in your favor
    2007-09-03 04:20:00
The development of your website involves an important decision-making process. A key factor in the process is the consideration of how potential clients or customers will interact with your site. The success of your website, and possibly your entire business rests on how you address that issueWhen you begin the process of setting up a website, here are some questions that you should consider: 1.What is the one overall message that a customer should take away with them when they leave your website? 2.How does your website make your customers feel? 3.How can your product or service best be explained to the customer in a simple and concise manner? 4.How can the customer be guided to buy/buy now? 5.How can you encourage the customer to come back? 6.How can you get your customer to bring you additional customers? Planning a Website is a two-part processFirst Part -- You gather your development partners, analyze your needs and goals, and work through the development process outlined here to refine your plans.Second Part --- create a site specification document that details what you intend to do and why, what technology and content you'll need, how long the process will take, what you will spend to do it, and how you will assess the results of your efforts. The site specification document is crucial to creating a successful site, as it is both the blueprint for your process and the touchstone you'll use to keep the project focused on your agreed goals and deliverables.Remember Websites are developed by groups of people to meet the needs of other groups of people. Unfortunately, Web projects are often approached as a "technology problem," and projects are colored from the beginning by enthusiasms for particular Web techniques or browser plug-ins (Flash, digital media, XML, databases, etc.), not by real human or business needs. People are the key to successful Web projects. To create a substantial site you'll need content experts, writers, information architects, graphic

What to choose - web site template or custom development ?
    2007-08-27 01:50:00
What should site be to positively influence business and not bring heaps of problems?”. In this article we want to analyse the parameter of how site is created. There are two major variants – you can get custom developed site or you can buy off-the-shelf ready solution for a site. Exactly these two variants or choice of web sites appearing will be discussed in this article.variant 1: you decided that you don’t want to be like all the rest and that your business deserves a lot and, constantly, your company web site should be the best in the whole world, especially if you consider it to be a very important constituent of your business. Welcome to the category of people willing to get a custom developed site (exclusive and perfect). Advantages of such a site are: * custom web site development always allows taking into consideration current and future (which is the most important) needs of the market and customers; * every field of activity and, consequently, target group has lots of details which you will be able to provide for; * you will get exactly what you wanted as a result of custom web site development; * if you want to get profit and benefit from your web site’s work, you will need to constantly develop and improve it (both content and functionality). It is difficult to do this with off-the-shelf solutions, but custom developed sites can be easily improved, developed and changed. Unfortunately, this variant of web site development is not ideal. There are two big disadvantages: time and money. Custom web site development is labour-consuming and takes a lot of time (of course, time of development depends on, first of all, your requirements) and, therefore, it requires great expenditures. So, if you have time and big budget for the project, take this variant into account. Second variant : you need to get site (probably, not the most special) as soon as possible and it is highly desirable that site should be not very expensive. You belong to people who need

The Art of Negotiation: This feedback got my web-site indexed in Yahoo in only 4 days!
    2007-08-26 06:46:00
One of the most important aspects of a real estate transaction and for that matter any kind of transaction is the negotiation. The reason I called negotiations an art is because both science and uncertainty are involved. The outcome of any act which involves human beings is inherently uncertain. A successful negotiator possesses complete knowledge of his/her environment.  By that I mean the facts involved in the transaction, and a good knowledge of the other sides want and needs and concerns. A good negotiator tries to optimally leverage any asset she/he has in order to acquire what he/she wants, and remember there is always two sides in any transaction. Having discussed all this I will analyze my feed back to Yahoo. The situation was as follows:A: I wanted Yahoo to index my web site’s pages and had no indication on when or if my web site’s pages were going to get indexed in Yahoo. B: Yahoo is huge, I am little, Yahoo has nothing to gain by indexing my pages and I have everything t

Put a Press Section on your Web site Today!
    2007-07-23 00:13:32
Having a good press section on your web site can do wonders for your off line and online public relations efforts. The goal of a press section is to make it easier for the media to write about your company/services in their newspapers, magazines, blogs, evening news, television shows, radio… Press sections save time for reporters because all the information they need is in one place. The easier you make it for reporters to write about you the more likely they will. A good press section should include the following: Press Releases You should post all of your press releases on your web site. Reporters will often look at your press releases for ideas of what to write about your company. Often times they will just reprint your press releases or alter them slightly, especially when they are on a deadline. Press releases also let your visitors know what is happening with your company. Changing world of Web Site statistics
    2007-07-15 17:19:13
Time on site is getting more popular press over the last couple of days since Nielsen said that this was how it was going to start augmenting stats over the traditional page view and hits versus unique IP address. Beths blog has a great summary of the general responses to the concept. In the web 2.0 world, the time on site metric is critical in determining the quantity of time that someone spends on the site, versus what they do when they are there. When we did our research on which social networking leads to the longest time on site. If you are watching a video, then the duration on site is a good thing. The other component to this though is the idea of quality, many sites have no idea of what the quality of the user is on their web site. This also feeds into the idea of advertising, and how on line advertising costs a lot, but the advertisers really don’t know if the users are quality, those people more inclined to actually purchase something. 9 Important Tips for a fast loading web site
    2007-06-29 06:32:00
It is important to have a reasonably fast loading web site so that viewers are not made to wait for a long time and to accommodate users on slow internet connections. Search engine algorithms also do take into consideration your load time. Follow these tips while designing and developing your site: 1. Optimize your HTML code: Make sure that your site doesn't have any unwanted tags and that it is optimized. 2. Effective Table designing: Design using nested tables instead of using cell merges and splits. Use separate tables where ever possible. Not designing for 100% height is better as if you use just one outer table, the web page is displayed only after the table is loaded fully. If many outer tables are present [you can have different tables for the header, content, footer, etc.] the page displays the content of each table as soon as its elements are loaded. 3. Maximize content area: This not only reduces load time, it enhances the readability of your site. 4. Minimize use of graphics, Flash, scripts: These are the major contributors to the size of your web page, so try minimizing them. Try using background colors and fills instead of heavy images. 5. Optimize all heavy files: As much as possible optimize heavy graphics, Flash files and scripts. In editors like fireworks and flash you can see the various options in the preview panel to reduce the sizes. See how popular web sites like google and yahoo have pages that are very small in size and thus load in seconds. 6. Stick to simple designs: Most fast loading sites have very simple designs. Take the hint! Complicated designs will slow down your pages. Spread out your content: In case you find yourself having very long pages of content, break them down into separate sections and thus bring down the sizes of the individual pages. 7. Use Text Links instead of graphic buttons: basically try to make use of HTML as much as possible. Use CSS Styles for text links to make them as attractive as buttons. Read our CSS Styles

10 Tips on designing a fast loading web site
    2007-06-26 02:46:00
Tips and tricks on effective web designThe Number 1 rule that every web designer should follow is to create a fast loading web site. You might have a great design but very few people are going to see it if it takes a long time to load. While designing a web site always think about how long it will take to load. Try out our tips to build a great looking web site that also loads fast1. Minimize the use of images - The key to a fast loading web site is to minimize the use of images. Images do enhance a page but don't make 80% of your web site only images. Instead break it down as much as possible to simple HTML. Notice the popular sites like Yahoo, Google, Ebay, Amazon etc., they have very few images because the load time is more important. Very often simple designs are the best.2. Optimize images for the web - Once you have decided on the images that you need on your site, make sure that it is optimized for the web. They should be in the gif or jpeg format. You can also minimize the size of the image by choosing the number of colors you need, from the color palette. The less the colors you choose, the less the size of the image. You can also use online tools like Gif Wizard to optimize your images or to get a recommendation on how to cut down the size of an image.3. Use Tables creatively - You can get some great looking designs by using tables creatively . Tables load very fast because it is just HTML code. Tables can be used in the homepage, menus or anywhere you like. Read more on Using HTML Tables Creatively4. Cut down the use of animated gifs - Don't use animated gifs unless it is necessary. Animated gifs take a long time to load and can also be very irritating. But since they catch your attention you could use small animated gifs to draw a visitor's attention to a particular section of your site.5. Design simple icons - Instead of using big, bulky images use simple and small icons that add a little color and draw the attention of a visitor. 6. Use background

Common Web Site Mistakes: Ten Things You Should Always Leave Out
    2007-06-16 02:36:00
Designing a slick, attractive Web site takes practice and persistence. With time and feedback from visitors, you'll learn what makes them come back for more and what causes them to abandon your site after one quick stop. Few site owners do the job perfectly the first time: thankfully, you can always upload updated pages as you make improvements. Experience is the best teacher, but here's something to start you on the road to a solid, professional Web site: things that you should always leave out. No matter what type of site you design – personal, business or somewhere in between – these things should never find their way onto your pages. . Flashing graphics. If the neon-green-and-white image gives you an instant migraine, odds are your visitors will have the same problem. Keep the headache-inducing elements as far away from your site as possible. . Sound files that automatically load. The auto-loading option only wastes valuable time that can be better spent loading your real content. And many visitors surf with their speakers turned off anyway, just to avoid annoying website noises. You may want to provide brief audio or video clips, but always make them voluntary! . Clashing backgrounds and blocks of text. Grey text on a graphical background of court house steps won't work. You'll be able to read some bits and pieces, but most will be lost in the image. . Embedded ad windows that were designed to foil pop-up blockers. These ads aren't quite embedded: they cover your page's content until the user does something with the ad windows. Stick with text-based ads, like Google's AdSense, to generate a little money from your site. . Extremely long pages. Break them up into different pages and use HTML coding to link them together. Users would rather have quick-loading, short pages than one massive document that requires endless scrolling. . Pointless Flash animation. There's a reason that many Flash elements include the "Skip Intro" option. Unless it's necessa
