(I still am one; I have only become a little realistic and less fanatical.) Though she hailed from one of the city’s reputed families, she would speak of getting married and setting up a home ASAP rather than getting ahead in life. This would irk my female (and feminist) ego no end and we would end up arguing. Once after a bout of tense debate on masculinity, femininity and gender stereotypes she and I decided that we had had enough.She: You would know what I mean when you fall in love or get married.Me (indignantly): I don't want to get married. Ever.She: Yeah? Those who make claims like that get married early. Folks like me end up staying single for longer than we want to.Me: What bullsh**!She: You wanna bet?The bet was that I wouldn’t get married for the next 15 years which was the ‘validity period’ fixed for the bet. Though the bet has now been dissolved for being teenage folly, I still teasingly ask her if she has found any basketball coach.
