Installing IBM RPM in Microsoft Windows Vista
    2008-06-26 03:20:00
The IBM RPM 7.1.1 documentation stated that you can install and use IBM RPM client in Microsoft Windows Vista. Is that really true? Yes and No.No in the sense that the installation is not one step process. Some additional steps are needed to ensure all the necessary components are properly configured. Yes because I tried and the program seems working after the installation. Of course, maybe there will be some bugs I haven't discover yet. I will briefly describe the steps you need to perform. There are 2 components (RPMBrokers.dll, RPMImpex.dll) to be registered for RPM Rich Client to work and 3 components (RPMBrokers.dll, RPMImpex.dll, RPMPlgin.ocx) for RPM Plugin. Ok, the ONLY REAL installation in Vista is just the ActiveX component registration is troublesome. If you try to register these components manually after the RPM installation, most probably you will hit by a 0x80004005 error. Note: The below are the steps I conducted to make the thing works, however I'm not sure whether some

Free Image Editor for Windows Vista
    2008-06-17 19:50:00
Many Windows users complain that unlike its Linux and Mac competitors, Vista doesn't have a very good "out of the box" image editor. Paint has been around for many years, with only small improvements. Windows Photo Gallery lets you do some basic image editing (adjusting brightness and color saturation, cropping, etc.) but it's pretty limited. Neither supports layers, lets you sharpen photos or contains much in the way of special effects. Sure, you can get PhotoShop or Paint Shop Pro but that will cost you from one to several hundred dollars. If you need more than you get with the built-in tools but not the complexity and sophistication of the expensive commercial ones, check out getPaint.net, a free image editor that works great on Vista. You can read about it here: http://www.getpaint.net/index.html

    Troubleshooting Windows Vista
    2008-06-17 06:35:00
Is your Vista driving you mad? It keeps changing the folder settings on its own.The problem occurs due to the fact that Windows tries to "Auto-Detect" the type of folder that you are viewing. This is a great feature for most of us, where Windows tries to optimize the viewing of the folder automatically by setting to the optimum folder view. This is where the trouble starts as optimization is quite subjective and therefore you will notice Windows deciding a music folder setting in spite of their being a presence of only one or two music files among several documents. You can never expect a machine to identify how a particular folder ought to view or is the best for you to view; this is something only you as a user can decide. Also added to the fact that artificial intelligence is still under a nascent stage and that we are dealing with Microsoft just kidding!Getting down to the problem, it's quite an easy fix. In case, Windows still refuses to learn, jump to the software solution part at

Tweak UI is a free user interface customization program by Microsoft for Windows Xp desktop management. It tweaks settings on how the desktop/explorer behaves, as well as other useful settings. You might want to give it a try. This PowerToy gives you access to system settings that are not exposed in the Windows XP default user interface, including mouse settings, Explorer settings, taskbar settings, and more. It allows you to change the way Windows looks and works. For instance, you can change things like the speed at which the mouse wheel scrolls and if a specific user should be automatically logged in whenever you start up Windows (a big timesaver if you are the only person to use a PC, and hate having to type your password every time you reboot).Version 2.10 requires Windows XP (Service Pack 1 and higher) or Windows Server 2003.Tweak UI Settings: General - sound, shadow, animation, menu settings Focus - prevent application from stealing focus.Alt+Tab - settings to control size of win

Making Icons for Windows Vista Now Even Easier!
    2008-05-27 07:46:00
Making Icons for Windows Vista Now Even EasierIn my previous review of the free icons and icon creator from aha-soft, aha-soft has become a very good source of icons and icon editing programs for Windows. Now They have just announced the IconLover program.IconLover allows designers and developers to draw or edit icons easily without having to learn complex image editing tools. Supporting imagesof any size and color resolution, IconLover is perfectly tailored for making Vista-style icons. Producing 16 and 256-color icons, IconLoverremains compatible with older versions of Windows and low-profile displays. The support of 24-bit Full Color and 32-bit True Color images with alpha-channel makes icons produced by IconLover fit within Windows XP and Vista guidelines. The newest edition of IconLover makes it possible to automatically create 'hot' versions of icons. Numerous applications in Vista and XP react to user interaction by displaying a different version of an icon when the user moves th

    Backup and Security Windows Vista

-Speed up your PC’s performance.Windows Vista introduces a new concept for adding additional performance to a running system. Windows ReadyBoost™ lets people use flash memory on a USB 2.0 drive, SD Card, Compact Flash, or other memory form factor to provide additional memory cache—memory that the computer can access much more quickly than it can access data on the hard drive. Insert a USB 2.0 memory drive with at least 512 MB capacity. When prompted, click use this device to speed up my computer.-Recover a previous version of a document.Windows Vista introduces a new feature: Previous Versions. This allows you to “roll back” the clock to an earlier version of a file that you may have accidentally saved over or edited. In the Documents Explorer, open a document, edit it, save it, and then close it. While selecting the document, choose the Previous Versions option on the command bar, which will bring up a list of previously saved versions of the individual file. Choose a previo

Mejoras Windows Vista - Iconos vectorizados
    2008-04-04 19:45:03

Do I really need Windows Vista 64-bit
    2008-03-31 09:26:00
If you don’t know already, Windows Vista comes in about 6 different versions ranging from Starter up until one called Ultimate. What most users may not know is that all but the Starter edition of Windows Vista supports a 32-bit or 64-bit version of the OS. Since I really did not have any idea of how a 64-bit Operating System was different than the 32-bit version, I decided to look into it. Here is what I found:The difference between a 32-bit and 64-bit OS actually depends on if the computer’s CPU is 32 or 64-bit. The CPU (or Central Processing Unit) handles the information given to it. Its job is to perform most of the calculations of the computer. In order for you to use a 64-bit OS, your computer must also use or support a 64-bit CPU.But in saying the above, why would you want to use a 64-bit version of Vista? The main benefit is the increased memory support beyond the 4GB limit that is currently available in a 32-bit OS. A 64-bit version of Windows Vista can access from 1 GB of

Windows Vista SP1 Released to Windows Update
    2008-03-19 19:26:00
As of March 18th, Windows Vista SP1 was released to Windows Update. I have been waiting for this so my PC will maybe be faster after the update. I've installed the Beta SP1 at work a few weeks ago and it actually does seem dramatically faster. Here are a few things to know before upgrading to Windows Vista SP1:1) You have not yet installed all the prerequisite packages you need for Windows Vista SP1.To install them, visit the Windows Update control panel and click on "check for updates." Just so you know....this may take up to 1 hour to complete so do it at time when you are not busy.2) You have a pre-release (or beta) version of SP1 and need to uninstall it before installing SP1.If for some reason Windows Update does not show SP1, check out this list from Microsoft about Windows Vista SP1

70-620 - Certificá Microsoft Windows Vista, Configuring
    2008-03-15 11:08:00

Some Problems Encountered with Windows Vista Home Basic
    2008-03-03 09:57:26
Some problems I encountered while using the new windows Vista Home Basic operating system is as listed:1) Applications compatibility: Adobe Elements 3 cannot display images properly. The images are distorted & are shown smaller than its frame.2) Vista does not automatically use the mouse to wake up the computer after sleep mode. You must select the option manually through the control panel. Otherwise, more often than not, you would have difficulty using the mouse as normal.3) Some applications like Spybot Search & Destroy may not have full functionality unless run in administrator mode. To run such programs under administrator mode in windows Vista, you must right click on the program icon & select “run as administrator” option.Microsoft, with its Windows Vista has successfully added more bureaucracy to what was previously automatic computer usage.PppHHbBbTt! :P
