| Wonder why there aren't lights in the Melray's parking lot? NA Today says it's Councilman Joe Bianchi's past decisions to blame | | 2008-05-02 16:59:00 | | If you've passed by the Melray's parking lot on Ridge Road in North Arlington, you've no doubt noticed, especially at night, that there aren't any lights in the place. In fact, around Christmas time, a portable gas-generated flood light was placed outside the lot so it could be used for nighttime parking during the serious shopping season. And, and the last Borough Council Meeting, residents questioned the governing body as to why the lights haven't been installed.Well, according to a strong piece this week on NA Today, it's former Planning Board Chairman and current Councilman Joseph Bianchi's agreement with Melray's -- an air-rights agreement -- that led to the lack of lights. (Read the NA Today piece for more information on what an air-rights agreement is).NA Today goes so far as to say the taxpayers of North Arlington should not have to foot the bill for the lights because it's really Melray's responsibility. | | And You Wonder Why Americans Are Broke? | | 2008-04-18 13:48:21 | | A month ago I wrote about Americans who, despite carrying an average household debt of $8,500, continue to spend, spend, spend and rack up further debt. It’s apparent–at least to me–that we have no problem spending money, even if it’s money we don’t have.
With that post in mind, do you recall recently getting a letter [...]... | | By: Crosby Finance | | |
| | Makes you wonder why breakfast tastes so good… | | 2008-03-29 13:17:45 | | When we eat packaged stuff, we simply assume that whoever makes what we eat is making sure that the environment is clean, sanitary and free of little things getting into our food such as cockroaches, little creatues and, er, rats and other types of rodents.
Nowadays, when employers seem to love cheap labor and cutting corners, [...]

| Wonder why... | | 2007-11-21 06:31:00 | | I’ve often asked myself why I hardly ever receive any mails from local Danish labels trying to promote new Danish releases. All regulars to this blog know about my passion for Danish artists, so I’d be more than happy to post (more or less) anything, if anyone asked! A few times I’ve tried to approach the labels (or artists) myself asking for permission to post a track, but often with little luck. So obviously I’m a bit puzzled (and some might even say frustrated) when I start receiving mails (including free songs to post) from labels promoting releases by Danish artists. Two recent examples are Lust Lust Lust by The Raveonettes (out in the US on Feb 19, next year) and Mafia by EPO-555 (released in the US in May, this year). Two really fine and highly recommendable albums and obviously I'll do the little I can to help promoting them. But without whining too much, wouldn't I have loved getting those promo mails when the albums were released in Denmark?+ The Raveonettes - Aly, W... | | By: Hits In The Car | | |
| | Ever Wonder Why Liberals Smell So Bad? | | 2007-06-27 00:33:00 | | This week I learned about an obscure new phenomenon with the loony left. These liberal nutcases are now going through dumpsters to eat garbage and gather what they can find. I kid you not. Notably, they are not doing this because they are homeless. They are doing this because they are typical, ignorant, guilty, liberals. Their argument is that we as Americans are wasting too much and destroying our climate. Therefore, they are going to solve this problem by going through our waste and utilizing things others throw away. Not only do these lunatics not understand basic economics, but they think they will change the temperature of the Planet by diving in a trash bin. The fact that people are able to throw away items that they do not want demonstrates how much prosperity capitalism has actually brought to this Country. Moreover, I find it hysterical that we are the only civilization in the history of the world where our poor people are obese because they eat too much. | | And We Wonder Why Manny's Mum | | 2007-02-26 18:10:00 | | Manny Ramirez' refusal to speak to the Boston media has bothered reporters and fans alike. The aloof and often immature Ramirez has gotten a reputation of being a tremendous slugger with an arrogant distaste for his adoring fans. Frazzled reporters like Dan Shaughnessy, desperate for some news from the tight-lipped star, create this image in an attempt to "get back" at Ramirez for (gasp) wanting a little privacy. Sure, Manny's a lucky guy. But he's also a human, just trying to get by in a fishbowl called Boston. One angry media member asked Ramirez' agent, "Manny is 34 now. Do you think it’s time for him to be more accountable instead of being babied like a 12-year-old?" Another came up with, "Do you think since he’s your meal ticket, you should try to help him grow up?" And the reporters kept prying when it came to Manny's mother's offseason surgery. The Globe's Jackie MacMullan leaned in so close to Manny as he unpacked his locker that he had to demand "Can you give me a little space please?”. I'm not naive enough to believe that Manny is a poor, innocent victim--the guy makes millions for playing a game, and his childish antics (such as coming out late for an inning because he was chillaxing in the Monster) have caused the coining of the phrase "Manny being Manny"; however, when reporters have such blatant disregard for his privacy, I can hardly blame him for his refusal to talk. The limelight isn't for everybody, and if Ramirez prefers to be known for his play rather than his words, that should be respected. If he weren't such a superstar, it wouldn't be such a problem anyway. Though I would love to hear what Manny has to say, I don't want it to be at the cost of his dignity. We all deserve our privacy, and if the media ever wants another quote from Manny, they need to learn to respect his.Edited to add: A few hours after posting I visited Red Sox Chick's blog and noticed she had a similar post to this one.
