    Co-working group makes the news
    2008-05-19 12:49:00
The Gazette times gave the Corvallis Coworking group some publicity! The group is a bunch of home workers who are looking for shared office space or just companionship to mitigate the feeling of isolation a home worker sometimes feels. I was not there that day because I was undergoing a home energy audit, which is the subject of another post. My personal feelings of isolation are more financial and technical than social. Development is a solitary activity and I quite enjoy my own company. At least I know I'm with someone who cares. I only feel isolated when I get stumped, such as yesterday when my subversion repository failed, plus my trial new version of my IDE (Zend Studio) wasn't working right, it was expiring anyway, and nobody answered my forum posts on how to fix it,but meanwhile I couldn't downgrade to the old version either due to some library that changed since I upgraded my workstationfor some reason uploading graphics to my blog with the nice wordpress GUI only

    RDA/MARC Working Group Established
    2008-03-17 09:48:42
Sent to the MARC email list.Under the auspices of the British Library, the Library and Archives Canada, and the Library of Congress, an RDA/MARC Working Group has been established to collaborate on the development of proposals for changes to the MARC 21 formats to accommodate the encoding of RDA data. With the implementation of RDA anticipated for late 2009, the Working Group will be drafting proposals for review and discussion by the MARC community in June 2008.Although the MARC 21 formats support the encoding of descriptions created according to a wide range of content standards, the close relationship between AACR and MARC 21 has contributed to the efficient exchange of information among libraries for decades. The RDA/MARC Working Group will identify what changes are required to MARC 21 to support compatibility with RDA and ensure effective data exchange into the future.Members of the RDA/MARC Working Group are:Everett Allgood (New York University and CC:DA Liaison to MARBI)Corine

Response to the Working Group on the Future of Bibliographic Control Report
    2007-12-12 13:28:49
A wiki has been put together to respond to the lack of any mention of open date in the Working Group on the Future of Bibliographic Control's report. If you agree with the statement, sign it, it is a wiki after all.The draft report of the Library of Congress's Working Group on the Future of Bibliographic Control features many interesting suggestions. In particular we wholeheartedly endorse the vision of a bibliographic ecosystem which is "collaborative, decentralized, international in scope and web-based". However, we are concerned that the report lacks any discussion of a key component for any future of bibliographic data: open licensing and access.
