It's the A&E Red Sox 8 disc DVD Collector's Edition of the 2007 World Series. I have been able to watch parts of all the discs....to watch the whole set would take so many hours and would delay this very review. And that's something I did not want to do. Here's what the beautiful boxed set contains.....Games 5, 6 and 7, in their entirety, of the American League Championship Series between the Cleveland Indians and the Boston Red Sox, each game on their very own disc, with every fact about each game peppering the individual cases. The same treatment continues for all four games of the Red Sox-Rockies World Series. That's seven games on seven discs. Our team is intact, although still in need of two arms for the bullpen and an extention for 'Tek and a contract for Tito. | | The 2007 World Series DVD | | 2007-11-28 16:19:00 | | I got my copy of the 2007 World Series DVD yesterday, on the first day it went on sale. I also got it in the first store I checked in, namely the Barnes & Noble store on Fifth Avenue in midtown Manhattan. (The clerk told me they were selling strong on the first day of sale. Good to see the Sox fans in NYC out there grabbing it!)I watched it today, and it certainly was a joy to relive those great moments from this past year's championship. The DVD is narrated by Matt Damon, and done in a very low key manner that makes it all the more enjoyable. It is centered on the Red Sox (naturally because they won) and their three postseason title wins. Not much is said about the regular season (and very little said about the Yankees as well), and things like Clay Buchholz' no-hitter and Tim Wakefield's 17-win season are not mentioned at all.But the film goes into the Sox march back from being 3-1 down against Cleveland, with plenty of interviews with the players and coaches. I had a bit of an Eastern Standard Time week, staying up to watch five consecutive Bo' Sox victories on Sunday in Game 7 of the ALCS against the Cleveland Indians, on Wednesday and Thursday for Games 1 and 2 of the World Series at Fenway, and on Saturday and Sunday, for Games 3 and 4 in Denver. Highlights included Dice-K's wind-up wiggle on the mound, Pedroia's lead-off homer in Game 1 of the World Series, Papelbon throwing out Holliday at first, Dice-K's two-run single in Game 3 (not bad for an American League pitcher), Jacoby Ellsbury's consistent on-base percentage and Gonzalez speed, Lugo plucking that one out of the air at short-stop, Kielty's pinch-hit homer in the only ball he faced in the World Series, and Mike Lowell and Youk's consistent brilliance. Big Papi and Manny of course continued to do their thing. It's a joy to watch a team reach their potential. Francona and Theo Epstein deserve a lot of credit.I was fascinated to learn of the Boston bullpen's rhythm section, which was first featured in Game 7 of the ALCS at Fenway.
