Gisele Bundchen – World’s top model
    2008-05-07 01:09:52
I dreamt about being a model when I was young, slim and sexy. However, I always got frustrated when I learned what their height requirement is. Yes, you are right I lack some height. Anyway, I mentioned being a model because I read about how much a model earns especially the famous one.According to the Forbes.com top of the list is Gisele Bundchen. She was considered as World’s Super Model. Her estimated earning last year was $35 million. Whoaaaa!! That is big sum of money. Second to her was H

    Gisele Bundchen World’s Top-Earning Model
    2008-05-06 06:41:56
With an estimated $35 million in earnings, Gisele Bundchen is still the world’s top-earning model, according to Forbes.com’s annual list. In the last 12 months, Bundchen made more than double the $14 million earned by Heidi Klum, who came in second, according to Forbes.Rounding out the top five are Kate Moss ($7.5 million), Adriana Lima ($7 million) and Doutzen Kroes ($6 million). The latter, a 23-year-old from Holland, was second-to-last on the list last year. “I wish we had snapped her up a long time ago,” Edward Razek, who has been selecting models for Victoria’s Secret for a decade, told Forbes. The company gave Kroes a contract this year.Victoria’s Secret made millionaires of two newcomers: Miranda Kerr and Selita Ebanks, ranked at Nos. 10 and 12, respectively.Source : http://www.modelsblog.info/

Iran should defend Islamic world: top cleric
    2008-04-19 04:25:00
A high-ranking Iranian cleric on Friday said the country should grow into a military super power to defend all Muslims, following an army parade at a time of mounting tension with the West."In a not so distant future, we should reach a point to have the most powerful military equipment in the world so that no one even think about invading our borders." Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati said in his Friday prayer sermon carried live on state radio."And not only that of the Islamic republic, but also the borders of Islam ... We must defend oppressed Muslims everywhere so that the enemies do not dare to attack Afghanistan, Palestine and Iraq."On Thursday's annual Army Day celebration in Tehran, dozens of fighter jets and other aircraft flew over the parade ground in a bid to show the power of the air force. Also on display was Iran's Shahab-3 missile, whose range includes Israel and even the fringes of Europe. More...

    The World's Top 25 Soccer Clubs, March 10, 2008
    2008-03-09 23:32:00
First of all, please check out the new ASN, which (along with my real job and basic human needs such as sleep) is what has been keeping me from my Soccer Source duties. As for the Top 25, it was a very telling week, with the UEFA Champions League proving the worth of many rankings, while debunking others. Onwards...1. (3) Arsenal. L'Arse take the top spot by virtue of their stellar Champions League victory at AC Milan. We'll forgive their transgression with Wigan yesterday, even though it may end up costing them the Premiership. For those keeping score, this its the third weekend in a row that Gunners have failed to defeat an inferior opponent. I have for some time argued that Wigan are not that bad of a side, but I don't exactly see them in the Champions League anytime soon. Also from the records department: this is Arsenal's first appearance atop the list since Oct. 29. Gooners host Middlesbrough Saturday.2. (4) Inter Milan. The nerrazurri beat Reggina Calcio in their final warm-up

    The World's Top 25 Soccer Clubs, March 3, 2008
    2008-03-02 23:44:00
It's been a very busy week for the Soccer Source crew (that would be me) for reasons that are utterly unimportant to you so I won't waste your time with them. Instead, I will delve right into what you came here for: the top 25...1. (1) Manchester United. Won at Craven Cottage, as might have been expected, to close the gap with l'Arse to a single point. Face Lyon in the return leg of their Champions League round tomorrow and Pompey (also at Old Trafford) on the weekend.2. (6) Real Madrid. Beat Recreativo Huelva Saturday to take a nice jump in the standings (the Top 25, not the Liga, which they already lead by five points). Now things get serious with Roma on the docket for Wednesday's Champions League Round of 16 return. Real only need to win 1-0 to advance. But Roma are in good form. Real also face Espanyol Barcelona at the Bernabeu Saturday. Depending on how things go this week they could be the top team in the world (according to this list) next week or barely top 10. We'll have to w

    The World's Top 25 Soccer Clubs, Feb. 25, 2008

Liverpool's shocking victory over Inter meant there would be room at the top of the Top 25 list. But who to move into it? Read on to find out...1. (2) Manchester United. Yes, it's the Red Devils. More by default than anything else, but hey somebody needs to fill the top spot. Man. U do it for the second time this season. Hopefully for them it will be a longer stay than the last time around (when they lasted all of one week before giving the pole position back to Inter). Man. U got the result they needed at Lyon, then beat up on Newcastle Saturday. With Arsenal dropping points at Birmingham, it allows Sir Alex' men to move back within striking distance of the top of the Premiership. Play at Craven Cottage next, Saturday.2. (3) Arsenal. Outplayed AC Milan but were unable to put one past them at midweek, then dropped points at Birmingham City Saturday. Also lost Eduardo that game--possibly for good--on a vicious tackle that suddenly opens up a hole in Gunners' attack. Sorry, but I don't h

    The World's Top 25 Soccer Clubs, Feb. 18, 2008
    2008-02-17 23:04:00
The return of continental play (Copa Libertadores and UEFA Cup) last week threw open a large portion of the Top 25. With Champions League games on the docket for this week, things are about to get even more interesting. But here is where we stand today:1. (1) Inter Milan. The undisputed No. 1 team beat Livorno over the weekend. Now the Champions League resumes with a trip to Anfield tomorrow. Inter only have one loss this season (at Fenerbahce Istanbul, back on Sept. 19). Will Reds make it two? Uh, no. The nerazzuri also play at Sampdoria Sunday.2. (5) Manchester United. Thoroughly destroyed Arsenal Saturday. Yes it was "only" FA Cup play, but Arsene Wenger showed up with his 'A' team. And yes, Arse still leads them by five points in the EPL standings, but Man. U have the better record in head-to-head games. There will be at least one more of these this year, April 12 at Old Trafford, potentially to decide the Premiership. This week, Sir Alex' men travel to Lyon for their UCL Round of

    The World's Top 25 Soccer Clubs, Feb. 11, 2008
    2008-02-10 23:06:00
The plot thickened this week as several top teams were put to the test. Most passed by the slimmest of margins, while not impressing (Chelsea, Bayern). One did not even get that far. Read on.1. (1) Inter Milan. Saw off Catania Calcio yesterday, winning 2-0 on second half goals by Esteban Cambiasso and David Suazo. Up next: Livorno Saturday, then the Champions League resumes with a trip to Anfield on Tuesday, Feb. 19. I don't expect Fernando Torres' men to thwart these guys like they did Chelsea, mainly because Zlatan Ibrahimovic presents a problem they (or anybody outside Serie A except for Inter's CL opponents) have faced before. But we're getting ahead of ourselves as that game is not for another week.2. (2) Arsenal. Idle last week. Play Blackburn today, then their FA Cup date with Man. United Saturday. Fun times ahead.3. (4) Real Madrid. Beat up on poor Valladolid yesterday. Play at Real Betis Sunday. Their Champs league date with AS Roma is on tap a week from tomorrow.4. (6) Barcel

    The World's Top 25 Soccer Clubs, Feb. 4, 2008
    2008-02-04 09:03:00
First of all, congratulations to the New York Giants, winners of last night's Super Bowl XLII. A great triumph for the city of New York (our first championship since 9/11) and an event that unfortunately had more than indirect effects on the delay of this week's Top 25. But speaking of the real football, there were several changes to the rankings (again) this week. Let's get to it:1. (2) Inter Milan. The sojourn away from first place was a short one for Roberto Mancini's men, who won a huge game at Juventus during the midweek to advance in the Coppa Italia and then beat Empoli at home yesterday. With Roma losing, Inter's Serie A lead is now eight points. They're still unbeaten in Italian competition. Play at Catania Calcio Sunday, then Livorno home a week from Saturday. After that, the Round of 16 Champions League match-up with Liverpool ensues. The first leg is at Anfield on Tuesday, Feb. 19.2. (4) Arsenal. How quickly the tides can turn! Last week's also-rans are this week's big winn

    The World's Top 25 Soccer Clubs, Jan. 28, 2008
    2008-01-28 00:24:00
Things just got very interesting in the Top 25, with many top-ranked teams playing down to their competition or worse. Would it be enough to affect major changes? Let's take a look:1. (2) Manchester United. It has come to this. Sir Alex' men become the fifth #1 team of record (the others were, in chronological order Real Madrid, Barcelona, Arsenal and Inter) thanks to a win over a pesky Spurs side yesterday. This development should be no big surprise, as Red Devils have been very impressive lately, winning their last five games by a combined score of 14-1 and have a perfect record on the 2008 calendar. Will this be United's year? I wouldn't bet against it. Up next: Pompey visit Old Trafford Wednesday, followed by a return trip to White Hart Lane (in Premiership play this time) Saturday.2. (1) Inter Milan. It was quite a run for Zlatan and the gang, who had held the top slot since Nov. 7. The nerazurri drop from their perch due to two ties in crucial games (at home to Juventus in the C

    The World's Top 25 Soccer Clubs, Jan. 21, 2008
    2008-01-20 21:53:00
Welcome to the 20th edition of the Top 25. Lots of action this week so let's get to it:1. (1) Inter Milan. Dismantled Reggina at midweek, then struggled to beat Parma yesterday, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic converting a penalty in the 88th minute to level matters before following up with the winner in the 92nd. I didn't see the game (was watching American football. Go Giants!) but ESPN Soccernet reports the penalty was controversial. Wouldn't be the first time in Italian soccer. Still, a win is a win is a win (is a win) and I'm not going to dethrone Inter for that (least of all without having seen the game). Travel to Juventus for midweek cup tie next, followed by trip to Udinese Sunday.2. (2) Manchester United. Didn't play well against Reading but still won, 2-0, to maintain their Premiership lead (on goal difference). Play at White Hart Lane Sunday. Spurs have been playing better but I wouldn't expect United to lose that one.3. (4) Arsenal. Beat up on the Fulhamericans (I've been calling

Italy's Serie A returned to action last week, meaning that the Bundesliga is the only major European league (at least the ones that I follow) still on its winter break. The Germans will be back in action soon enough. In the meantime, there was plenty of other stuff that went down. Here's how it affected the rankings:1. (1) Inter Milan. Won at 18th-placed Siena to maintain their unbeaten Serie A record. Up next: a cup tie versus Reggina Thursday followed by Parma at San Siro Sunday. Expect Inter at the same spot next week.2. (4) Manchester United. Thoroughly dismantled Newcastle to take back first place in the Premiership Saturday. Figure their strong form to continue when they visit Reading Saturday.3. (2) Real Madrid. Lost at Mallorca in first leg of Copa del Rey at midweek (but it was only by a 2-1 score that they will be able to make up in the return leg at Bernabeu Wednesday. Still, the margin for error at these very top spots is extremely slim, so they dropped down a spot). Yesterday beat Liga cellar-dwellars Levante 2-0 on a brace by van Nistelrooy. The Madrid derby goes down Sunday. Now THAT should be interesting.4. (3) Arsenal. Two ties last week, both at Emirates, both in games they were expected to win. Were outplayed by Spurs in midweek League Cup but managed a 1-1 tie, then played Birmingham City to an identical score Saturday.5. (5) Chelsea. Beat Everton in the league cup last Tuesday, then off Spurs 2-0 at Stamford Bridge yesterday. Up next: Trips to Birmingham City and Everton for the return leg.6. (6) Roma. Won at Atalanta Bergamo yesterday. Next up: Torino in midweek cup tie. Catania at the home on the weekend.7. (7) Barcelona. Tied Sevilla 1-1 at midweek copa game, then beat up on Murcia in liga action Saturday. The return leg against Sevilla is Wednesday at Camp Nou. Sixth-placed Racing Santander visit Sunday.8. (8) FC Porto. Beat up on Sporting Braga by 4-0 on Saturday. Face some Portuguese minnow in a cup game Wednesday, followed by the showdo

Indian equity funds among world's top 100 in '07: Lipper's list
    2008-01-14 05:10:00
Indian equity funds stormed into the Lipper list of the world's 100 top-performing stock funds of 2007, with 40 funds making a mark compared with none a year ago, as Indian shares turned in their best performance in four years. A power sector fund from the country's largest asset manager Reliance Capital led the Indian top performers in 2007. The top-100 list, carved out from a set of 24,887 funds tracked by global fund intelligence firm Lipper, a Reuters company, also includes five India-dedicated offshore funds. Over the 10-year period ended December 2007, local funds are clear winners with seven of the world's top 10 funds from India. "Indian funds had a revelling year, with the broader markets faring well and the mid- and small-cap segments outperforming their bluechip peers by a significant margin in 2007," Dhruva Raj Chatterji, research analyst with Lipper in India, said. Sensex rose 47 per cent last year, clocking six straight years of gain, as foreign funds, attracted by strong economic growth and corporate performance, poured more than $17 billion in local shares, the highest in a single year. The BSE mid cap and small cap indices grew faster, gaining 69 percent and 94 per cent respectively, powering returns of funds which invested 40-48 per cent of their assets in such stocks, data from fund tracker ICRA Online Ltd showed. Nearly three-fourths of the funds secured a place in the top 1,000, while majority of India-based funds tracking auto, pharmaceutical and battered tech stocks were pushed to the bottom with Franklin India Infotech getting the worst rank of 22,790. Twenty-nine Chinese funds, which saw their main stock index rise 97 per cent last year, secured a place in the world's top-100 funds. "This is just the beginning...We are not at all surprised by the performance of Indian funds as they are based on the strong foundation of our Indian economy," Vineet K Vohra, chief executive officer of ING Investment Managemen

    The World's Top 25 Soccer Clubs, Jan. 7, 2008
    2008-01-06 23:45:00
Some more diversity of games than the steady stream of English/Scottish stuff we've had in the past two weeks: Spanish, Portuguese and Greek leagues returned to action with Turkish and French cups getting underway. Mexican teams were even back at it in the Interliga competition. Very few surprises, however, so the impact on the Top 25 was insignificant. But read on anyway.1. (1) Inter Milan. Idle. Back in action Sunday with a trip to 18th-placed Siena. A nice way to work off the Christmas bacon.2. (2) Real Madrid. Beat Alicante in a Copa del Rey match Wednesday and Real Zaragosa in the Primera Division yesterday. Bernd Schuster's team maintain their seven point lead over Barca. Next up: Mallorca Wednesday in another cup tie followed by Levante Sunday.3. (3) Arsenal. Beat West Ham at midweek and Burnley in FA Cup yesterday. Next up: Tottenham in the League Cup and Birmingham City in Saturday Premiership action. Both games are at Emirates. Will Spurs manage to vanquish the Baby Gunners? We'll see.4. (4) Manchester United. Beat Birmingham City early in the week, then won at Villa Park Saturday. Newcastle visit Old Trafford Saturday. That shouldn't be terribly difficult5. (5) Chelsea. Beat their neighbors from Fulham on New Year's s day, after being a goal down at halftime. Then beat Queens Park Rangers by only a 1-0 score. Up next: Everton in the league cup tomorrow. Spurs visit in a week's time.6. (6) Roma. Idle last week. Play at Atalanta Bergamo Sunday.7. (7) Barcelona. Managed only a tie against Alcoyano in a Spanish cup tie Wednesday, but it didn't matter because they had won the first leg. Won at Mallorca Saturday. Next up: A more difficult cup tie against Sevilla Wednesday, followed by Real Murcia Saturday. The return leg against Sevilla is Jan. 16.8. (8) FC Porto. Won their bwinLIGA game yesterday by a 1-0 score. Is it just me or do the "Dragons" not look as intimidating as they did earlier in the season? Their lead over Benfica is back up to nine point

This is it! The final list of the year! Obviously not that much changed since last week, with English and Scottish Premiership squads and the odd Greek team the only ones playing competitive games this week. There was drama galore in the EPL of course. How did that affect the rankings? Uh, not all that much. But here is your updated version anyway:1. (1) Inter Milan. Idle until Jan. 13, when they play Siena. I reckon they'll be number one until then.2. (2) Real Madrid. Idle last week. Next up: Alicante in a Copa del Rey match Wednesday and Real Zaragosa Sunday.3. (3) Arsenal. After a disappointing scoreless draw at Pompey on Boxing Day, Gunners had an impressive win at Goodison Park Saturday to retake their lead in the Premiership. Next up: Man U. vanquishers West Ham visit Emirates tomorrow and an F.A. Cup tie at Burnley Sunday.4. (4) Manchester United. Beat the crap out of Sunderland on Boxing Day before losing at Upton Park Saturday. Birmingham City visits Old Trafford tomorrow followed by a tough F.A. Cup trip to Villa Park.5. (5) Chelsea. Played Aston Villa to a 4-4 tie in what may have just been the game of the season thus far (after another 4-4 draw at White Hart Lane of course) then came back to beat Newcastle late. Up next: a trip to Craven Cottage and struggling Fulham tomorrow, followed by Queens Park Rangers in the weekend F.A. Cup tie. Hey, does Fox Soccer Channel carry F.A. Cup games? They better!6. (6) Roma. Idle until Jan. 13 when they play at Atalanta Bergamo.7. (7) Barcelona. Idle last week. Next up: Alcoyano in a Spanish cup tie Wednesday, followed by a trip to Mallorca Sunday.8. (8) FC Porto. Idle until Jan. 6. Sporting Lisbon looms Jan 27.9. (9) Juventus. Idle until Jan 12 trip to Catania.10. (10) Olympiakos. Beat Xanthi in Super League action Saturday but it wasn't enough to retake first place as AEK Athens beat Saloniki yesterday. Next up: Some other Greek team on Saturday. Third-place Panathinaikos looms Jan. 13.11. (11) AC Milan. Idle unt

Happy holidays and welcome to the year's penultimate Top 25 List. All is quiet in Latin America, but it was quite a weekend in Europe, with the Real-Barca and Inter-Milan games both taking place today. How did that affect things? Let's see to find out:1. (1) Inter Milan. Beat Reggina in a cup tie and overcame AC Milan in the derby match yesterday. Yes, they were a bit lucky to win that game (hopefully they have time to send Dida a Christmas card?), but these guys are for real. Next up: Siena, Jan. 13 and the return match at Reggina five days after that.2. (2) Real Madrid. Tied Alicante in a cup match at midweek before shocking Barca at Camp Nou. Now seven points clear in La Liga and looking dominant. Next up: The return leg at Alicante (Jan. 2) and Real Zaragosa (Jan. 6).3. (3) Arsenal. Beat Blackburn Rovers in extra time in the League Cup, then overcame Spurs in the North London derby Saturday despite being outplayed. The result of latter match forces a certain individual who predicted a tie or Spurs win to eat his words. So here I am and I'm ready to chow down. Yes, I made that prediction. Yes, it was wrong. That will show me. I will never again predict any kind of success for Spurs, especially against Arsenal. Gunners face Pompey on Boxing Day (Wednesday) then Everton Saturday. Both games are on the road.4. (4) Manchester United. Beat Everton yesterday. The bad news now is they face three games in six days. The good news? The teams all suck. Away matches against Sunderland (Wednesday) and West Ham (Saturday) next on the docket, following by Birmingham City at Old Trafford on New Year's day. Okay fine, West Ham isn't that bad but the other two are.5. (7) Chelsea. Topped Liverpool in the League Cup Wednesday then saw off Blackburn yesterday. Next up: Aston Villa (Wednesday) and Newcastle (Saturday) at Stamford Bridge, followed by a trip to Craven Cottage Jan. 1.6. (8) Roma. Lost first leg of cup tie at Torino Wednesday, before beating Sampdoria Saturday. Next

    The World's Top 25 Soccer Clubs, Dec. 17, 2007
    2007-12-16 23:06:00
A massive week for club soccer, with the conclusion of FIFA's Club World Cup, the end of the UEFA Champions League group stage and the Big Four showdown in the Premiership. How did it affect things in the Soccer Source Top 25? Read on and you'll find out:1. (1) Inter Milan. The world's undisputed #1 team beat Eindhoven in a meaningless Champions League game, then won at Cagliari yesterday. Up next: Reggina in a cup tie and AC Milan in the derby match Sunday.2. (2) Real Madrid. Beat Osasuna at the Benabeu yesterday and knocked off Lazio in mid-week CL action. Just how good is this team? We're due to find out, with a trip to Camp Nou lurking Sunday. Is that right? We get the Milan derby and the Clasico on the same day?!? Real visit Alicante for a cup tie at midweek first.3. (3) Arsenal. Won their meaningless Champions League game with Steaua Bucharest and topped Chelsea in a cracking match at Emirates yesterday. I'm not convinced this is England's best team and considered having them swap places with Man United. After all, they managed only a 2-2 tie when the two teams played at Emirates Nov. 3 and Gunners tied their game at Anfield while the Red Devils won theirs yesterday...but we can play that game for awhile (Man U lost to Bolton; Arse beat them. Man U tied Reading but Arse won. On and on). Here's the bottom line: Arse lead Manchester by a point in the Prem standings and are still alive in all competitions so they're ahead of them in this list. Simple as that. Coming up: Blackburn Rovers in League Cup tomorrow and Spurs at Emirates Saturday. I am going to make a fearless prediction: Arsenal will not win the latter game.4. (4) Manchester United. The game at Roma was meaningless; the win at Anfield impressive. Host Everton Sunday (no League Cup for the Red Devils)5. (6) Barcelona. Beat Stuttgart in meaningless CL game and won at Valencia Saturday. Up next: Real Madrid's visit Sunday. I'm assuming that game is going to be on GolTV, which New York City resid

I made some adjustments this week because I noticed certain teams in the list were ahead of ones they trailed in their domestic league standings. While this is due to happen for a number of reasons, I felt it should be adjusted at this time, especially in the Premiership where all "Big Three" teams have done well in the Champions League and with one exception (Chelsea's loss at Old Trafford back on Sept. 23) have not played any decisive matches against each other. As a result, you may see some discrepancies with the way teams moved this week versus other weeks.1. (1) Inter Milan. Another impressive week for the nerrazurri, who won both games by a combined 7-0 score. Saw off Lazio on Wednesday and beat up on FC Turin yesterday. The undisputed number one team in the world has only lost once this season and that was way back on Sept. 19. Travel to Eindhoven for meaningless Champions League game Wednesday followed by another road game at Cagliari Sunday.2. (5) Real Madrid. Won the always

Lots and lots o' action this week, including top games in Italy and Germany, not to mention all the midweek Champions League and UEFA Cup action. One champion was crowned in Argentina, with a second perhaps to follow later this week. Let's get to it:1. (1) Inter Milan. Beat Fenerbahce in the Champs League Tuesday and won impressively at Fiorentina on the weekend. Zlatan Ibrahimovic had two nifty assists in that one. I think the case could be made that the Swede of Bosniak-Croat descent is the best player in the world right now. But that's another topic for another day. Point is, these guys are good. Host Lazio on Wednesday and FC Turin Sunday.2. (2) Arsenal. Meaningless games are exactly that: meaningless. So I'm not punishing Arse for losing their midweek Champions League game at Sevilla. Besides, Arsene Wenger's boys rebounded nicely in winning at tough Villa Park Saturday and continue to lead the Prem--now by five points, with a game in hand. Play two road games this week (Newc

    The World's Top 25 Clubs, Nov. 26, 2007
    2007-11-26 10:38:00
And we're back. Last week we were faced with a dearth of games resulting in little movement over the week before. This week, most teams only played once (and incidentally, most on the list won) leading to only slight re-shuffling. Expect that to change, with a full slate of Champions League, UEFA Cup and domestic league action in Europe this week. But more on that later. Let's first take a look at the rankings:1. (1) Inter Milan. Beat Atalante Bergamo, 2-1. Next up: Fenerbahce in the Champs League Tuesday followed by a trip to Florence for Sunday's Serie A game.2. (2) Arsenal. Beat Wigan thanks to a late push. Next up: at Seville in Tuesday Champions League action, followed by a trip to Birmingham and Aston Villa on Saturday.3. (5) FC Porto. Had no problems with Vitoria Setubal in the Superliga yesterday. But now things get very interesting: Play at Anfield Wednesday with Liverpool facing a must-win, followed by a trip to Benfica Saturday. Both Benfica and Porto are unbeaten in the

Australia Ranks #1 Again for World's Top Country Brand
    2007-11-13 09:48:00
LONDON, Nov. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- With the kick-off of London's World Travel Market this week -- the premier global travel and tourism convention -- the big questions on the minds of tourism and hospitality professionals are: "What countries have the best reputations and which ones rank in the top 10 list of desired country brands when it comes to travel?" The answers might surprise you.According to this year's Country Brand Index (CBI), Australia once again earned the coveted spot as the world's top country brand, with the United States ranking second and the United Kingdom ascending to third. Other countries making the top 10 included Japan, Canada, France and Greece. The CBI also identified Croatia, China and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as the top three "rising stars" -- those likely to become a major tourist destination in the next five years. Also making the list this year are Cuba, Iceland, and the Russian Federation.

    The World’s Top 25 Clubs, Oct. 15 2007 Edition
    2007-10-15 00:44:00
With European clubs on hiatus this week, I considered skipping this edition of the Top 25 altogether. Then I realized that would kind of defeat the purpose of the exercise, which is to have something comparable to the weekly U.S. college football rankings. As you know if you’re in the U.S. and follow college football (that’s American football), the rankings are released every week regardless of whether a few teams are idle. For us, it just so happens that “a few teams” correspond to every one of last week’s top 16 (to see those rankings go here). But who’s to say national team play couldn’t affect these listings? After all, it's many of the same players and their performance can cast their club’s record in a different light. Especially if they got injured and are going to miss time with their club. Besides, Latin American and Mexican teams were active and could (and in one case did) move up. Read on.1. (1) Barcelona. Idle.2. (2) Arsenal. Idle.3. (3) Bayern Munich. Idle.4. (4) Inter Milan. Idle.5. (5) Real Madrid. Idle.6. (6) Manchester United. Idle.7. (7) FC Porto. Idle.8. (8) Celtic Glasgow. Idle.9. (9) Juventus. Idle.10. (10) Manchester City. Idle.11. (11) Chelsea. Idle.12. (12) Olympiakos. Idle.13. (17) Chivas de Guadelajara. Top non-European team for the second week running. Cemented their position atop Group 3 in the Mexican Apertura by beating up on Necaxa over the weekend, but the bigger achievement was a scoreless draw at Argentina’s Arsenal in the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana quarterfinals. 14. (13) PSV Eindhoven. Idle.15. (14) Liverpool. Idle but Torres’ injury will hurt them. Update: Torres now says he expects to play in the Merseyside derby next weekend.16. (15) Villareal. Idle.17. (16) Shakhtar Donetsk. Idle.18. (18) Rangers. Idle.19. (20) Valencia. Idle.20. (21) AS Nancy. Idle.21. (23) Dynamo Zagreb. Idle. 22. (19) Sao Paulo. Lost at home to Colombia’s Millionarios in their first Copa Sudamericana match, then drew at Fluminense in Brazilian league action. The latter game actually salvaged their rankings because the Rio de Janeiro side (in sixth place) needed the victory worse than Sao Paolo did. Sao Paolo leads the league by a comfortable 11 point margin with seven games remaining. 23. (23) Olympique Lyon. Idle. 24. (-) Club America. They’re back after a one week absence by virtue of an impressive 2-0 win over Brazil’s Vasco da Gama in the Sudamericana. Would have probably moved up more had they won their Mexican league game this weekend, but managed only a scoreless draw against Veracruz. 25. (-) Steaua Bucharest. I put them here for two reasons: 1) I couldn’t find anybody worthy from Mexico or South America and 2) It was their defender, Dorin Goian, who scored the goal that won the Romanian national team’s clash against Holland Saturday. It also made Goian a national hero in Romania, whose national team features three Steaua players (midfielders Banel Nicolita and Ovidiu Pedre are the others) which is more representatives than from any other club. Dropping out: Santos (22), Atlante (25).

    China world's top tourist destination
    2007-08-26 09:24:00
On my first visit to China as a tourist more than 40 years ago, I was followed around the streets of Shanghai by a mob of curious, Mao-suited Chinese, today I don't even rate a glance. I'm just one of millions of western tourists who are finding China a fascinating destination. Within a decade China is expected to top the list of the world's most popular destinations. Of course, China has changed beyond recognition. It has pulled down its bamboo curtain and embraced a new hybrid of capitalist communism. The Great Wall of China, once built to keep people out of China, is now being used as a tool to bring tourists into China. Today, Beijing, Xian, the Yangtze River, Guilin, the Li River, Yangshuo and Shanghai are among the main places of interest to the tourist. China is not a place yet for the independent traveller: English is not widely spoken and internal travel isn't easy. Far better to take a package tour with an accompanying escort who can take care of the detail. Wendy Wu

World Top Investor Competition - a Contest Worth Watching
    2007-02-25 05:02:00
I found an interesting contest that you might want to hear about - World Top Investor Competition. What is the World TopInvestor Competition? The World TopInvestor competition is a live money, capital markets trading competition. It lasts for a full year: February 19, 2007 to February 18, 2008.You can trade whatever you want, not only forex. The only thing is you need to have an account with a broker that sponsors the contest - that's the tricky part. And that you must trade your own money (at least 5000 USD or EUR). That's another tricky part :)But guess what the prize is:The winner of the World Top Investor Competition will get to be portfolio manager for a year of an investment fund of USD 250,000.Sounds good, heh? Well, it really is good. And I'm talking about this contest because it's better than the contests we're used to see in the forex market. We hear about monthly contests from Forex.com, FXCM or whatever-desperate-broker-looking-for-new-clients where they have winners with 500% or even 1000% returns. In one month! ONE.500% after one moth? 1000% after one month? You must be kidding. You're risking like crazy for those returns. Any strategy that pulls out 500% of the starting capital in such a short period of time will definitely lose on the long run. And that's what the World Top Investor Competition is all about.Last year's winner, Maria Helena Coutinho, a Portuguese female teacher (I know, I know what you're thinking) finished with 96.57% profit. Now compare that with 500% per month. Who's risking more?
