Anyone else getting the feeling that this team may be better than we thought?
As most of you probably know, the counterculture lost a giant yesterday:
SANTA MONICA, Calif. - Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television. Some People Are Stupid. Stuff. People I Can Do Without.
George Carlin, who died of heart failure Sunday at 71, leaves behind not only a series of memorable routines, but a legal legacy: His most celebrated monologue, a frantic, informed riff on those infamous seven words, led to a Supreme Court decision on broadcasting offensive language.
The counterculture hero's jokes also targeted things such as misplaced shame, religious hypocrisy and linguistic quirks - why, he asked, do we drive on a parkway and park on a driveway? In the end, though, nobody took death less seriously than George:
Catch you in the next life, buddy.
In Macedonia, a writer gets the inside scoop on a serial killer. Like WAY inside:

| Wrigley Sweet Wrigley | | 2008-05-26 21:32:52 | | Game Fifty-One - Cubs 3 Dodgers 1
WP - Ryan Dempster (6-2) LP - Chad Billingsley (4-6) Save - Kerry Wood (11)
The Cubs needed a win, Lou Piniella needed innings and Ryan Dempster supplied both. Dempster out pitched Chad Billingsley in a good ole fashion pitcher's duel and made a 2-run home run by Derrek Lee in the 1st inning hold up. Dempster pitched ahead in the count most of the afternoon and worked around putting the leadoff hitters on in the middle innings. The Cubs defense was solid on the afternoon, especially Derrek Lee, but the defensive highlight came in the 8th inning. Kosuke Fukudome turned in a game changing play that will not show up on the highlight reel or in the box score. Fukudome played a double off the wall by Matt Kemp perfectly and kept the tying run from scoring.
Ryan Dempster, Bobby Howry and Kerry Wood were the difference on Monday afternoon. They made their fair share of mistakes but came through with the big pitch when they needed it....the Dodgers left 12 ... | | By: Chicago Cubs Online
| | More on the First Wrigley Triumph | | 2008-05-17 19:32:00 | | The [video highlights] are definitely worth a watch. There were spectacular plays, big moments, and just lots of action in nearly every inning of this one.--Some solid photos from [SI.com]:--The Paulino tag-out of Soto at home was an absolutely great play by Ronny. He looked to be completely safe, but Paulino blocked the plate just enough to keep Soto from touching it. Instead, his leg went straight up into the air after the tag, so replays clearly indicated he was out.--Brian Bixler was a littl... | | By: Raise the Jolly Roger! | | |

| The Power at Wrigley Field | | 2008-04-16 00:37:11 | | Game Thirteen - Cubs 9 Reds 5
WP - Ryan Dempster (2-0) LP - Aaron Harang (1-2) Save - None
Lou Piniella's crew handed the Reds their fourth loss in a row with a solid come from behind win. The Reds scored in the 2nd inning on a single by Edwin Encarnacion but Mark DeRosa gave the Cubs a brief 2-1 lead with his second home run in as many games in the bottom of the 2nd. Ken Griffey, Jr. hit the 595th home run of his Hall of Fame career in the 3rd to put the Reds back on top, 3-2.
Ryan Dempster settled down and turned in another quality start while Derrek Lee and the Cubs offense put runs on the board in three of the last four innings. Lee gave the Cubs the lead for good with a 3-run homer in the 5th after a Mike Fontenot double and a Ryan Theriot walk. Aramis Ramirez doubled home Lee in the 7th and DeRosa added his third RBI of the night on a deep single to center. Ryan Theriot hit his first home run of the year, a 2-run shot that put the game out of reach in the 8th.

| | Sam Zell Needs You To Help Him Pimp Out Wrigley Field | | 2008-02-28 08:00:54 | | Tribune Company is now owned by a supposed money-making genius, and the best ideas he can come up with to wring more revenue out of Wrigley Field are more night games, additional concerts and peddling the naming rights?!

| | Why Sell Wrigley, You Ask? | | 2008-02-05 02:18:12 | | There’s been a lot of talk lately about the potential sale of Wrigley Field to the state of Illinois. Many seem to be wondering why Sam Zell would risk devaluing the Cubs by selling its most valuable asset. The answer is simple…and obvious; more money.
While searching for the answer last night, I stumbled across [...]... | | By: The Cub Reporter

| | State Of Illinois Considers Purchase Of Wrigley Field (No, Seriously) | | 2007-12-14 12:15:19 | | From today’s Chicago Tribune:
Tribune Co. executives and Illinois Sports Facilities Authority officials confirmed Thursday that they have held preliminary talks about the state possibly buying and operating historic Wrigley Field.
Both sides also stressed that a ballpark sale could be financed without additional taxes and that naming rights eventually could be sold to help fund renovations.

| | | | Throwdown at Wrigley | | 2007-06-02 01:08:06 | | The Cubs lose again, 8-5, but I doubt anymore than two sentences will be written up about the actual game in any of the papers. As I’m sure everyone’s heard or seen, Carlos Zambrano and Michael Barrett went at it in the dugout in front of the cameras. After the debacle of a five-run fifth inning that was a continuation of the debacles in the first and fourth inning, Carlos seeked out Barrett, pointing to his head suggesting that Barrett start using his, a passed ball and errant throw by Barrett likely being the instigator. The scuffle didn’t last long and Zambrano was done for the game which is what happens after five innngs, 97 pitches, 13 hits and 7 runs score. Barrett though continued his staggering display of bad decision making (made all the funnier after finding a “new perspective” with a few days off) when he apparently headed into the clubhouse for Round 2 which resulted in him getting a pretty bad cut lip and a trip to the hospital for stitches.... | | By: The Cub Reporter | | |
