| Yahoo Search Monkey | | 2008-06-04 10:42:38 | | Another step towards the Semantic Web, Yahoo SearchMonkey.SearchMonkey is fundamentally about transforming the way search results are compiled and displayed by leveraging the same structured data that powers the millions of pages indexed by Yahoo! Search. By sharing structured data with Yahoo!, site owners and content publishers can build more useful, relevant and visually appealing search results, which can increase the quantity and quality of traffic from Yahoo! Search....You can share data by embedding microformats, using semantic web standards such as RDF, sharing an XML data feed directly with Yahoo! Search, or using the SearchMonkey developer tool to build custom data services that extract structured data from your pages. | | By: Catalogablog | | |

| | Yahoo Search Marketing Launches in India | | 2008-05-16 04:39:01 | | Yahoo has finally woken upto search marketing in India but although Yahoo is a leader in display marketing its share of Indian searches is very low. India is Google country which holds 80% of Indian Search Market according to Comscore and as I had earlier stated Yahoo's India searches account for only 0.01% of global searches according to net applications. Other major players in Indian search market Google, Guruji and Rediff have their own pay per click ad platforms and yahoo is last to enter this market but better late then never. Yahoo doesn't even have Yahoo Publisher Network which is alternative to Google adsense in India which means search marketeers don't have a way to target blogs in India through Yahoo. For the uninitiated Search marketing works something like thisAdvertisers bid on keywords they predict their target market will use as search terms when they are looking for a product or service. | Google, From Stirrer to Spoiler, Ends Microsoft’s Yahoo Search | | 2008-05-05 22:14:10 | | By MIGUEL HELFT : Microsoft and Yahoo were pushed to the brink of a multibillion-dollar marriage and then to a sudden breakup this weekend by the same player.
It was Google, in the odd dual role of both unwitting matchmaker and self-interested spoiler.

| | | How Yahoo Search Assistant Changes SEO | | 2008-02-18 20:12:27 | | On Tuesday Yahoo became the last of the four major search engines to offer blended search. Last, but definitely not least as Yahoo’s Search Assist may just be the killer app to get some switching back from Google. Search Assist also has the potential for changing a few things when it comes to optimizing for Yahoo as people begin to unknowingly build more advanced queries.Yahoo’s been rolling out some of the changes recently, but on Tuesday they all came together. There’s already been a lot of coverage and instead of trying to repeat what’s been said I’ll leave you with the links towards the bottom of this post. However the best way to see the changes is by going to Yahoo and searching.SEO Related Observations About Search AssistIn using search assist the last couple of days a couple of things have become clear to me. The first is that whether they realize it or not people will be performing more long tail searches. The second is that when search assist is open one less organi | | By: Book of Tips - Find helpful tips that can help you | | |

| | Yahoo! Search Engine Optimization | | 2007-11-22 22:39:00 | | Jerry Yang and David Filo were graduate students at Stanford University in January of 1994 when they created a website that they called "Jerry's Guide to the World Wide Web," a directory that organized other web sites into a hierarchy. Four months later Yang and Filo renamed the search engine Yahoo! after a word used by Jonathan Swift in Gulliver's Travels. Swift's definition of Yahoo! was "rude, unsophisticated, uncouth."At the end of 1994, approximately twelve months after its creation, Yang and Filo had over one million hits on their fledgling search engine. Understanding that they had designed something that could enjoy potential business success Filo and Yang incorporated Yahoo! early in March of 1995, fourteen months after its inception. Because the name Yahoo was already the brand name of other enterprises, human propelled watercraft, barbecue sauce, and knives, Yang and Filo were forced to add the exclamation point in order to trademark the name. | | Adwords Compared to Yahoo Search Marketing | | 2007-10-11 03:37:10 | | Adwords is a popular program for advertisers and affiliate marketers. How does Yahoo Search Marketing(formely known as Overture) Compare to Adwords?Yahoo Search Marketing is actually very similiar to Adsense in how it’s structured. They both are contextual(relevent to content) that show the ads across the search engine and publishers network. Both also have high priced keywords, much higher than most other PPC networks. Yahoo recently came out with an algorithm change to how they rank ads. It is called Yahoo’s Ad Quality Index and factors in quality and relevance. Now due to this new algorithm, just having the highest bid may not be enough to get the best rank over other ads. Yahoo also has a minimum keyword bid of 10 cents while Adwords only one cent.Adwords is generally recommended for beginners because it has more powerful tools. However, once you become advanced at Adwords, then you can try Yahoo Search Marketing to see how it compares. You may just find that Yahoo gives you a better return on investment for your site. | | By: gainproof | | |
| | Yahoo Search Assist Aids Visibility | | 2007-07-31 14:03:00 | | Yesterday Danny Sullivan posted an interesting walkthrough on a new technology that Yahoo is currently testing called Yahoo Search Assist. Throughout the following I will give a quick rundown and explain why Search Assist may help sites found in the bottom 5 of the top 10 search results. What Do I Mean by Search Assist? First Some BackgroundYou may have noticed over the past couple years that whenever you search for an item in Google or Yahoo you were provided with word completion suggestions. For example, if you typed in 'boat' then the suggestions that appeared in a drop-down (which you can select from to complete your search) might be 'boating', 'boat sales', 'boat magazine', 'boating tips'... or something like that. These suggestions came from the search engine's analysis of the most common searches related to what you are typing in. This functionality is useful but Yahoo Search Assist promises a more intelligent search experience.Yahoo Search Assist takes suggestions to | | By: The SEO Blog | | |
| | Yahoo Search Marketing | | 2007-07-30 20:47:23 | | Most people are aware of Google Adwords. People often forget that Yahoo has their own version called Yahoo Search Marketing(formely known as Overture). It is similiar to Google adwords. | | Yahoo Suggestions. Oh Sorry, Yahoo Search Suggest | | 2007-07-16 14:19:00 | | Google Suggests suggest you an example of what you were searching, displaying along with the example the number of results for that keyword. Yahoo, a little late though, has also launched it suggestions tool Yahoo Search Suggest. Similar in working like Google Suggestions Yahoo forgets to tell you the number of results for that keyword.Google Suggests FAQ states that it has integrated the technology with Google News too. Its a different case that I wasn't able to find that working. Yahoo on the other hand is still working with there new tools bug fixes.Google and Yahoo both let you disable the suggest feature if you find it disturbing. I do not find it disturbing though. Its more of a helper many times. Like if I was to search for Arnold Swarchenegger both would display the full spelling when I type Arnold S. It saves me from writing down that sir name. Quite a help!Technorati Tags: yahoo search suggest

| | Inspect-our-Gadget – Yahoo! Search Gadget for Vista | | 2007-02-27 11:33:00 | | Hi, I’m Jonathan from the Yahoo! Desktop Products team. The Yahoo! Search team invited me to write about our latest collaboration, the Yahoo! Search gadget for the Windows Vista Sidebar. My team’s mission is to enable users to access Yahoo! services from anywhere on their personal computer desktop. And while we have quite a few Yahoo! products already available for Windows Vista, today I wanted to focus on our first Vista-only product, the Yahoo! Search gadget. The Windows Vista Sidebar is a new feature in Vista that, similar to our own Yahoo! Widgets or Apple’s Dashboard, allows you to run mini applications (called gadgets) on your desktop that are connected to the Internet without having to open a browser. Since Yahoo! Search is one of our most popular services, it was a logical choice for our first ever Windows Vista Sidebar gadget. We designed the Yahoo! Search gadget to feel at home in Vista’s new visually rich environment with animations and four shiny colors to choose from. And whether docked in your Sidebar or floating on your desktop, the Yahoo! Search gadget puts Yahoo! Web Search, Answers, Local, Video, and more at your fingertips. Of course, there are a number of other ways to integrate Yahoo! Search into your Vista experience, including search plug-ins for IE7 and Firefox as well as the Yahoo! Toolbar also for IE7 and Firefox. We’ve got a lot of stuff in the Vista pipeline, including more gadgets and a new Yahoo! Messenger client, which you can preview here. Stay tuned…http://bollywoodjunction.blogspot.com/atom.xml | | By: Google Vs Yahoo | | |
| | Keeping Ad Tracking and Dead URLs out of Yahoo! Search | | 2007-02-27 11:25:00 | | We’re often asked how Yahoo! Search determines which pages get indexed and which pages are left un-crawled. First and foremost, we honor the industry-standard robots.txt file format, which gives Webmasters several layers of control over which sites, pages and specific URLs should be indexed. Lately we’ve heard from a number of Webmasters asking how best to prevent ad tracking URLs and dead URLs from getting indexed, so we thought we’d respond via this post.Ad tracking URLsAd tracking URLs are used by Webmasters to help determine what traffic is coming in from advertisements (e.g., Yahoo! Sponsored Search and Yahoo! Publisher Network) but aren’t necessary to include in the Yahoo! Search index. Sometimes you might notice that these URLs still appear in the index. That’s because they’ve appeared on pages that are “crawlable” or may have been copied over to crawlable pages by users. If you don’t want Yahoo! Slurp, our Web crawler to index these URLs you can use wildcards in robots.txt. For example, if you are using the parameter 'ref' to track ad sources, you can use a rule like the one below to keep your tracking URLs from being Slurped:User-Agent: Yahoo! SlurpDisallow: /*ref=YahooPublisherNetworkDead URLsThe best way to remove dead URLs from the Yahoo! Search index is to return an HTTP Error 404 when our crawler requests the page. If you want to act before the 404 discovery and URL removal process completes, you can use Site Explorer to quickly delete the URLs from the index. One advantage to using Site Explorer is that you can delete multiple URLs including an entire subpath so long as the URL prefix is the same. As Danny Sullivan points out in his deep-dive post on the delete function, if you delete http://domain.com/subarea1/, then all the pages that begin with “domain.com/subarea1” will get removed. E.g.:http://domain.com/subarea1/page1.htmlhttp://domain.com/subarea1/page45.htmlWe’ll continue to visit the Yahoo! Search blog to give Webmas | | By: Google Vs Yahoo | | |
