Galaxy S II gets two software updates, some issues fixed
2011-05-13 19:51:00
he Galaxy S II got two new updates before we could even order food after completing its own review. Hope we don't need to rewrite much. Anyway, we didn't know the phone had issues that needed fixing in the first place but someone at Samsung must've admitted to screwing something up. They claim a bug related to automatic-brightness was addressed, Swype was made more responsive and some connectivity issues were fixed. The updates mean the Galaxy S II is now on the i9100XWKE2 firmware. It’s also rootable so you can go with custom ROMs and tweaks. The updates are available through Samsung Kies right away. You're welcome to check out our preview of the Galaxy S II and stay tuned for the full review (this very evening). ...

Nokia are obviously getting more and more serious about their touchscreen portfolio. Hot on the heels of the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic, they have announced the Nokia 5230 - an entry-level touchscreen handset. The newcomer has the same dimensions as the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic but looses the Wi-Fi and has only a 2 megapixel camera.Much like the Nokia 5800, the Nokia 5230 sports a 3.2-inch resistive touchscreen with a resolution of 640 x 360 pixels, FM radio, 3.5 mm audio jack and microSD card slot. The camera has been downgraded to 2 megapixel resolution but manages the decent VGA@30fps video recording.Nokia 5230 runs the latest Symbian S60 5th edition and is powered by the same battery as 5800 - a 1320 mAh one, which is good 320 mAh larger that that of the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic. Samsung's Star shines bright: Five million units sold since May
2009-08-31 06:30:00
Well, well, if it isn't the year of the affordable touchscreen bar - the Samsung S5230 Star sold over 5 million units since its introduction in May. And Samsung expect that number to reach 10 million by November.Ambitious? Definitely! But the S5230 Star was the fastest Samsung handset in reaching the 5 million mark and if you look at the numbers of units sold month per month - 10 million seems entirely within reach. In its premiere month of May the Star sold 700 thousand units, 900 thousand the next month and the numbers for July and August were nearly double that - 1.6 and 1.8 million respectively. The Star's rival, the LG Cookie, also reached the 5-million milestone in July but it had a head start of several months. It too is foreseen by its creators to reach 10 million sales soon.Europe ...

Nokia N900 is now officially outed and it packs some serious stuff
2009-08-27 13:55:00
Nokia have something even more exciting to announce at the upcoming Nokia World, so they’ve decided to fire early with the N900 tablet/smartphone announcement. N900 is a continuation of Nokia Nseries tablets. This time they’ve stepped out of the ultra portable computing turf and have ventured in the territory of Nokia Communicators.Running on the new Linux-based Maemo 5 OS, the Nokia N900 power lies in the capable multi-tasking, which should make it stand out even among the ranks of the Symbian smartphones. According to Nokia reps, however, the new Maemo device is not meant to compete with the Nokia Symbian smartphones, but instead cater for different market needs. With Nokia N900 you’ve got around-the-clock connectivity thanks to Wi-Fi and HSPA. The N900 offers phone features as well...

Official photos of N900 and N97 Mini lift the curtain of Nokia World
2009-08-27 13:50:00
With only several days remaining to the start of the Nokia World event, we can already feel the excitement building up. We already got one announcement yesterday just to warm us up but we are certainly hoping that more will follow once things get rolling in Stuttgart on 1 September. After the preview that popped up yesterday we were quite confident in predicting that the Nokia N97 Mini will be one of the new devices to be announced at this year's Nokia World. The trimmed-down version of the company multimedia flagship has now made another unofficial appearance, through a leaked press shot. It certainly doesn't give any more information that we already have, but it's another confirmation that the actual launch of the handset cannot be far away.Update 27 August: Today, a day later, we spotted...

HTC have just announced their new HTC Dream, an HTC-branded clone of T-Mobile G1. HTC Dream will be targeted at Asia and Australia exclusively thus becoming the first Android handset Down Under (sorry, Kogan). In an obvious attempt to stay out of the way of T-Mobile G1, HTC are releasing their Android-powered HTC Dream only in Asia and Australia. Customers of SingTel and their Australian subsidiary, Optus, should soon be able to get their hands on the HTC Android device. We can't really say anything new about the HTC Dream specs - it's identical to T-Mobile G1. You get a 3.2 megapixel camera, a 3.2-inch slide-out touchscreen plus a full QWERTY keyboard. There's Wi-Fi and GPS on board and you can rely on HSDPA for fast cellular data transfers....
