The Odds and Ends
2007-06-29 14:12:24
I’ve launched a new website called Odds and Ends of Contemporary Life and it’s about productivity, blogging, tech, and apple. A few friends might be on board so I’m saving the authors page for now, but it will go up soon. I’ll still post on this blog as well. Check out the new site and please [...]......

Woot! Finally finished my final exams! I had been taking them all last week, as well as this week. In other news, I bought several books to start reading up on cocoa and mac development, and should be starting up on an application soon. I think the iPhone craze is finally starting to get to me. The [...]......

Thinking About Mac Apps
2007-06-01 22:52:03
I wanted to do another Mac-oriented post, but since I had posted a list of Mac apps already, I felt it would be too repetitive for you guys to have to read another one. Pixelmator This app was featured on Digg a few days ago, and woah does it look good. The user interface is created almost [...]......

Web Development (Disambiguation)
2007-05-30 02:35:21
While browsing the web for web design jewels, I came across the websites of multiple “web development” freelancers. I couldn’t help but notice the problem of them declaring that they were web developers, when some of them didn’t even put “build a full featured web application” into their services section (I hope you get what I mean). Unfortunately, the term “Web Development” has become an ambiguous, broad term for anything having to do with web design. Hopefully, web professionals and copywriters will soon realize the different types, a.k.a. classes, of a web designer. According to Wikipedia, Web Development… can include e-commerce business development,[application development] web design, web content development, client-side/server-side coding, and web server configuration. Lets go over the sub-categories of a web developer so you can figure out where you fall. Web Application Development If you develop applications that are acce......

Theme Update
2007-05-28 02:42:07
Hello to all readers… I know it has been a long time since I last wrote an article, but I’ve got something good today. You’re probably already seeing it, but a theme update will be rolled out today… I have created this theme last night and finished it up today, and it features a green and black UI. This theme is completely original and written from scratch, and I hope that I won’t change it for a while. Part of the reason I used to change themes so quickly was because so many sites were using them. I am happy to add that I will also be adding a few new technologies to the site, such as Gravatar avatars for comments, Greyboxes, and a few other changes behind the scenes. Adding some of these changes to posts may update them in the feed, and I apologize in advance for this. Also, the load times of the site will be a bit slow until everything is set and working, and then I’ll optimize everything. Celebrate with lolcatz! Got Beat Up… In ur lapto......

Playing Around With Scrybe
2007-05-07 01:14:04
A while ago I got an invite to Scrybe, and I promised I’d give the people out there without invites a closer look. I made a quick video on how the calendar app works, and I’ve linked to it below. (Edit: I made one for the thoughtpad app as well) You may put these videos on your website as long as it has a link back to this page. Calendar ScreenCast Thoughtpad ScreenCast It is a really great service, and although the only applications I’ve been able to try out are the “Planner” and the “Thoughtpad”, I still like the interface just as much as any Google online application, or any major company for that matter. Its great to see the interface scale in and out as you move from month to day view, and a view change which is usually disorienting is made present with the magic of AJAX. The templates for printing the calendars and the data integration with programs via CSV files are awesome. ......

Top Mac Web Design Applications
2007-04-06 23:26:29
I recently purchased an Apple Macbook and moved my beloved Sony Vaio desktop to my attic. I’ve been looking for Mac applications that replace my applications on my Windows XP machine. Since I do a lot of web design (um… duh), here’s a list of applications that you cannot live without if you are designing and coding websites on a mac. (more…) ......

How To Succeed Using RSS
2007-03-30 01:08:24
Stuart Brown has written a post over at his web design blog about RSS and tips for succeeding with your RSS feed. He makes several points that I agree with, including the part he writes about full feeds and posting too many times per day. I cannot agree more with blogs publishing full feeds. A full feed includes the entire contents of the post, instead of just a short summary created to attract visitors to your main site. I assume that small blogs will not be the ones writing over 15 posts a day, or 20, but rather large tech blogs with multiple authors, such as Engadget. I typically get over 50 Digg RSS updates, and around 30 Engadget updates. If I could make one addition to his already good list, it would be to avoid stuffing your feeds chock-full of advertisements. So far this doesn’t seem to be a problem and I haven’t encountered any major violators, but I see problems in the future similar to the many spam blogs filled with ads today. If you’d like to know more a......
