2007-06-23 05:07:39
Though the iPhone is not due to be released for another week, AT&T stores are already getting ready for its arrival. The first step they’re taking, is installing iPhone display units — these will demonstrate iPhone’s features on a big screen to consumers that will surely flock to stores upon its release. The photos also hint that some stores in the USA might’ve already received the iPhone, so you might as well go ahead and try to bribe your local AT&T clerks into showing you one. Cheaper iPhone Model? Maybe!
2007-06-23 02:46:37
American Technology Research analyst Shaw Wu recently confirmed a long going rumor that Apple will come up with a cheaper iPhone model sometime soon. To quote Mr. Wu, he knows of “lower cost iPhone prototypes [being prepared] for release at unspecified future dates” from his inside sources. He also said that “Apple needs to round out its iPhone product line at lower price points (similar to iPod) if it expects to replicate the success of its iPod with sales of 100 million units.” We agree. iPhone World temporarily under new management
2007-06-23 02:04:32
Dear iPhone World readers, due to a series of unfortunate events the editor in chief of iPhoneWorld.ca can no longer personally maintain this project. My name is James and I was appointed by Dennis to take care of the website until he can come back, which hopefully will be soon, although he could not say when exactly. While I have some big shoes to fill, I hope I will be able to maintain the same style and direction as the previous management did. However, there might be a lower volume of news and less frequent updates until Dennis is able to retake over the site. He also asked me to assure all Free iPhone contest participants that it’s still on track, although with a delay due to his inability to personally administer the site and the boards. Best regards, James Farlow Executive editor iPhoneWorld.ca Bookmark to: ...

AT&T: No Vacations For You, iPhone On June 15th?
2007-05-07 19:14:07
AT&T allegedly released a memo (down the page) stating that employees should either take vacation time before, or after, June 15th. Apparently, AT&T considers this date to be a “major sales period” and wants all staff to be on duty to handle it. Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple, stated multiple times the iPhone was shipping in ‘late June’ however, but with no particular date set we’re all relying on subtle information. If this memo is authentic, this means there’s quite a probability on an even better launch date for loyal fans. Scroll down for the memo. To: All Company Owned Retail Employees From: [Name removed] Subject: iPhone Launch Period Date: May 4, 2007 As previously announced, Apple and AT&T will soon debut the iPhone, which combines a mobile phone, a widescreen iPod with touch controls, and breakthrough internet communications into one small and lightweight handheld device. Will The iPhone Be Profitable?
2007-05-07 06:09:31
iSuppli, a Silicon Valley market research firm that specializes in taking apart various popular electronics to find the manufacturing cost, suspects Apple will make the device aiming at a 50% gross margin. Adding up the cost of all the parts that Apple is expected to use in the device suggests it will cost about $230 to build the 4GB version that will sell for $499 and about $265 to build the 8GB version that will sell for $599. The 3.5″ screen is apparently the most expensive piece on the iPhone, with a suspect cost of about $33.50. The NAND-type flash memory chips are expected to run $35-$75 (expected to be made by Samsung). No chip developer has been announced, but iSuppli analysts Jagdish Rebello and Tina Teng have some good guesses. They say that Micron Technology will develop the chip for the camera, as they’ve sold more chips to phone manufacturers like Motorola and Nokia than any other fellow manufacturer. Lastly, the other companies expected to have a hand in th...

Apple Shares Surpass $100
2007-05-07 06:01:49
On May 3rd Apple stock went up 92 cents, rising just over $100. The iPhone is suspected to be the major cause of the stock’s rising 18% this year. “Investors have come to the realization that Apple is much, much more than an iPod company,” said Jonathan Hoopes, an analyst at ThinkEquity Partners in New York. Of 28 analysts who follow Apple, 24 recommend investors buy the stock and four say hold. None suggest selling, according to Bloomberg data. Thanks: Charlotte Observer Bookmark to: ...

iPhone Shipping Late June
2007-05-03 18:18:00
Apple’s Chief Financial Officer Peter Oppenheimer gave the world a small update, stating the iPhone is still on track for a late June release. Mr. Oppenheimer also stated that 35% of the company’s gross margin wasn’t sustainable because of component costs not staying so cheap. “We look forward to shipping the iPhone in late June and are very excited,” he said. Going One On One With The Creator Of iPhone Flirt
2007-04-27 16:47:11
iPhone World recently caught up with Miguel Sciaudone, the creator of iPhone Flirt**, in order to find out more about his application. Q: Tell us a little about yourself, and explain in some depth what your program is all about. A: I am a web designer and developer. I have been building web sites and multimedia since 1997. I live and work in Boston, Massachusetts. iPhoneFlirt is a mobile dating solution that takes advantage of the iPhone’s multitouch interface, screen size, Safari web browser, and other features. Current mobile dating solutions have very poor user interfaces, suffer from small screen size, and are stripped down versions of online dating sites. The user experience is generally very poor and the concept of mobile dating has yet to really take off in any significant way in this country as it has in other coutries. The goal of iPhoneFlirt is to be a next generation design mobile dating solution. With the iPhone’s advanced web browser, large screen size, and int...

iPhone, Apple TV Get Free Software Updates
2007-04-27 09:42:40
Apple announced this Wednesday, in it’s quarterly conference call, that it will serve free updates to both Apple TV and the iPhone (when the latter is released). Continuing to give free updates was one of the core reasons why the company apparently announced ‘accounting changes’ for revenue from the products. A well possible reason for this decision, is that they previously charged a $1.99 fee to enable the unannounced 802.11n feature in already shipped Macs. Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer says that Apple plans to release “new software features and entirely new applications“. “We hope the result will be to surprise and delight our iPhone customers,” he continued. He didn’t release any other details, of course, though. Thanks: MacNN Bookmark to: ...

AT&T Aims iPhone At Business Buyers
2007-04-27 09:34:56
AT&T plans to market the iPhone to business men and women. Analysts don’t totally agree with this type of consumers though, saying it’d be a waste of time. Many points came up against iPhone being enterprise-oriented. Gowever, AT&T is working to make sure the costs of sustaining iPhone’s service to an enterprise are affordable and easy, says a ‘Voice familiar with the company’s plans’ (apparent anonymity). The idea of marketing the iPhone as an enterprise product baffles some analysts. If AT&T announced such a plan, “We’d be against it,” said Ken Dulaney, an analyst with Gartner. Dulaney states he’s not heard of this plan before, and comments “We’d immediately tell our customers that’d be a very serious mistake.” Dulaney expects the iPhone’s features to be the shortcoming of this enterprise relationship. Pointing out factors, he said “The phone has multiple processors, which con...
