Retro Village on Sukhumvit~!!!
2012-04-22 06:28:30
Perhaps this was how Sukhumvit looked like before?Yeap, so at the hyper-modern Terminal 21 (at Asoke, Sukhumvit 21), there is some kind of "Retro Fair" going on~!!I stumbled upon this clay model of a fast-disappearing traditional Thai village on the ground floor.Unsurprisingly, this display was reeeeally popular with the kiddies~!! I also had a lil' bit of fondness of miniature models when I was a kid (LEGO, I love ya~~!!!!).I can't help but imagine that before most of Sukhumvit roads were paved, the locals usually walked to buy their daily necessities and watched movies outdoors. (Today, most people would quickly duck into any airconed room - especially now that it's officially summer, when day temps could reach as high as 40 degrees Celcius~!!!) (*wipes sweat from bro...

Sofitel to Open Hotel on Sukhumvit
2012-04-09 03:11:00
Written by Imogen (Guest Writer)*Sofitel is finally opening a branch on Sukhumvit. Currently in its final stages of development, the 32-storey, 345-room hotel is designed by BBG-BBGM, a New York based architectural firm with an extensive portfolio of international hotels, resorts, retail space and high-rises, including Trump International Hotel and Tower in Dubai and Centara Grand Hotel and Convention Center at Central World in Bangkok. The company's project in Sukhumvit is a representation of a modern take of an art decor tower with a facade of limestone, concrete, stainless steel and glass, topped by a signature crown. The development is also located in the heart of Bangkok on Sukhumvit Road and it targeted at tourist travelers as well as corporate businesses. The Very Best Corpor...

Time For A Round? Best Bars In Sukhumvit
2012-03-20 01:33:00
Written by Imogen (Guest Writer)*Bangkok's nightlife is one of its biggest draws for visitors. From makeshift street bars to the Khao San Road serving up buckets, to sophisticated hotel bars with gleaming tables: whatever your particular nightlife preference, Bangkok will oblige. Sukhumvit brings together all of the city's nightlife personalities in one place, frum grungy backpacker bars, to the ultimate in urban cool. Here are some of the best the area has to offer.Cheap Charlie's(Sukhumvit 11)Cheap Charlie's is a real institution: one of thoe places everybody knows and everybody's been to. It is just a street shack made out of various bits of wood tacked together somewhat haphazardly. Just pull up a street stool, make an order and enjoy a cold one. Lives up to its name by serving some o...

Ayutthaya Reincarnated on Sukhumvit!
2012-03-05 13:13:01
Last night I experienced something so bizarre, I'm still thinking about WHAT IT WAS EXACTLY.Hmmmm, how can I explain this? It was basically some sort of an "event". Called "Ayutthaya Redux" it was a kind of trippy, kaleidoscopic (magic mushroom optional) event at Sukhumvit 105 which paid homage to the lost glory days of the kingdom of Ayutthaya (Thailand's former capital, which was sacked by the Burmese army and later abandoned for present-day Bangkok)."Ayutthaya Redux" (held at Centerpoint Studio - which is a huge entertainment/media production complex) was styled like a traditional Thai temple fair (below is a pic of a typical traditional Thai temple fair, swiped from THIS website):but with modern and subversive elements slipped in. It featured mocking banners, a...

Modern Baroque on Sukhumvit!
2012-03-04 10:58:20
I managed to catch "Baroque Me Baby" at TCDC (Thailand Culture and design Center) at my beloved Emporium (Sukhumvit 24) and boy, was I glad for getting some treatment for the ears and eyes!!"Baroque Me Baby" was a modern take of Baroque music using traditional instruments like spinetta and viola da gamba. The musicians were very good, and they looked like they really enjoyed playing to a rapt audience. There were also three contemporary dancers accompanying the musicians (though I have to admit, the meaning of the whole dance was totally lost to me!).Anyway, just hit the PLAY button and enjoy!   Bodacious Baroque on Sukhumvit~!!!streetsmartsukhumvit@gmail.com sukhumvit bangkok thailand...

Rain Hill Opens on Sukhumvit!
2012-03-02 13:19:31
The "boutique mall trend" is still going on strong right here on my beloved Sukhumvit. Yet another boutique mall opened on Sukhumvit 47 recently! The name is "Rain Hill", and it consists of four floors of restaurants, dessert and coffee shops, specialty stores (for clothing, candles, paper products and gadgets), a kids' school and a 24-hour supermarket. The concept is sort of like an urban jungle with trees and a "stringy waterfall" amid black metal (OK, OK, just take a look at the pics and y'all see what I mean!).  Already A Hit Among the Sukhumvit Locals~!!!streetsmartsukhumvit@gmail.com sukhumvit bangkok thailand...
