beating Udunion Everytime
2007-07-18 19:59:00
Hey guys I just decided to post this guide up because lots of people feel that this is an impossible fight if the game wants it to be. The truth is that it isn't, it's just designed very well. There may also be other guides for fighting him, but I haven't searched so I'm putting it here for anyone who wants to know how to do it.Voice chat is recommended, but this encounter can be done without as long as each and every group member knows what they are responsible for.First off you have a few things to contend with.Shadow take you - Use of the Staff of Dark Shadows on the western light.Come dark fire - Use of Scroll of Ruin on the eastern light.Buurrrrrnnn! - Use of Horn of Anor on the Northern light.Shadow take you causes you to instantly die if the staff isn't used.Burrnnn! causes you to i...

Unconventional
2007-07-18 19:52:00
I don't want this to sound like I think I know everything about Champion. This is my first real go at an MMO, but I think I understand the class pretty well, and have some different opinions than the Conventional Wisdom. If you disagree with something, let me know. I am always trying to improve. But please don't just say "thats stupid." A well thought out response is much more useful to me.Well, I started LOTRO in Beta in September as a Guardian. I switched to Champion in November cause it looked fun and always thought I would go back to Guardian In Live, but Champ was too fun! (I do have a lowly Guardian alt Haakor – Haakons father). I decided to start this for those who might want to dabble in champion, or compare notes on how they play Champ. The most useful part for Experienced Ch...

Raid Guide

Helegrod Uncovered!Part 1: The Drums of WarThe instance begins with a pull of 4 archers, an ogre, and about 7-8 more mobs. The 4 archers are permanet deaths, but the ogre and other mobs will keep coming in waves until you kill the ones beating on the drums of war. However, more mobs will not spawn if you keep them alive, so here is the strategy for part 1.Main tank(MT) will need to pick up the ogre right away and pull it into a spot far away from the group. The tank will sit and bash on the ogre with a healer on him the entire time. This will take place outside the gates. EVERYONE else will let the other tanks pick up all the mobs and damage per second(DPS) on the Main Assist(MA). NO ONE WILL DPS THE OGRE!Once all the mobs are down except for the ogre--everyone moves in letting the Offtank(...

A Guide To Crafting
2007-06-29 09:46:00
STARTING YOUR PROFESSION1) Find an opposite, ie. someone who gathers the same type as you (woodworker, prospector, farmer) and work with them so you both get plenty of what you need. For example gather copper if you’re a jeweler, but also gather tin to allow copper to respawn at the resource nodes. Give the tin to your weaponsmith friend, who can feed you the random jewels picked up from prospecting which they can't use. For scholars, speak to everyone as you are the only one who can use runes, scrolls and symbols. Trade the 35 Minor Lore scrolls you need to make in order to go up a level (100 total to master the tier) with other players for their scholar ingredients, as the Minor Lore scrolls are used as quest completion requirements for most professions.2) Don't simply sell all th...

MP Starter Guide
2007-06-28 20:38:00
I you are new to MP or just thinking about starting to play some MP, here are some suggestions and tips. I have heard some grumbling around lately about new players in the area and the issues that come with new players. This is somewhat of a startup guide to try and help you all out. By the way, this is meant as a help to new players so please try and keep comments constructive.First of all, those of us who have been playing MP welcome you. New creeps are always welcome in the fight.SO you just rolled a creep.A what? Creeps are the common term for any Monster Player. Conversely we also have freeps. Freeps are the Free Peoples (NPCs and players), just shortened. We fight against them. AND now you are in MP (monster play), in the Ettenmoors. You start in a fo...

Hunters guide
2007-06-25 07:40:00
To start Hunters are a class that takes skill to play. You can’t just make a hunter one day and say you are a hunter. So Im writing this guide to help new hunters understand how we need to play our hunters and how to get that undefeated every one wants! =}To start hunters are squishy. We can’t just run in and grab all the aggro you can like champs and guardians. We have to pull targets without drawing arggo from other mobs that are close.Note: These are my own personal opinions, I am not saying that my way is the best and only way. Only that this is the way me and my friends play our hunters and it works. So let’s start with basic pulling when soloing.First you need to find the mob you want to kill, then you need to look around see what ...

A guide to good Minstreling
2007-06-21 19:08:00
This is the first release, Its been through a lot of touching up, and I wanted to release what I've done so far to the public and see if anybody has any comments or ideas. So far, this guide has been my views on the skills and traits, as well as some guidance on grouping and soon things every Minstrel should know about other classes when grouping. I'm lucky enough to have a brother for a tank, and a girlfriend for a Lore-master, a good buddy for a burglar and another friend for a champion. Having pretty much grouped with at least one of them my entire leveling career Id like to think I've picked up a few subtleties when dealing with the classes.I realize its a long read, but I really hope people out there can pull something from my experiences and perhaps h...

Loremaster Trait
2007-06-21 19:00:00
This guide is meant to provide information about Loremaster Class traits and Legendary traits. It is here to provide information about each of the traits and enlighten to the usage of such traits. I hope you enjoy it!I'll start off with one of the most useful traits. Master of the Staff. This trait turns this into this As you can see the trait gives a 25% increase on your staff damage plus an additional 8 damage at level 50. If you hit a mob with the Flanked! debuff and this trait equipped you will do a "double" hit so to speak. The stun from the staff is pretty respectable too. About 4-5 seconds. This trait is a very versatile and worthwhile trait. And let's not forget the +5% to morale line bonus. The next trait we'll look at isThis trait is very worthwhile. Increase the amount of drain ti...

guide to exp mechanics
2007-06-20 18:03:00
Technorati ProfileConflicting theories or statements have been made on the official LOTRO forums and other fansite forums about how group exp and "assist" exp work. Nobody has yet made a definitive guide to how exp formulas work in LOTRO and the two main fansite wikis are silent on the issue. So I grabbed some guildmates (thanks kittyketh and ravyyn!) and a couple random strangers here and there, and we did some testing with a bunch of different alts. The mechanics of group exp are very clear with just a little testing. So here ya go: all the details on how exp works in LOTRO.The mechanic of "rested" expMost people figure this out eventually, but I'll spell it out just in case. When you are in a "rested" state (a blue portion of your exp bar is showing), you ...

This gives me a number that lets me compare items to see what is the best item to make to advance and how the costs compare between vocations. Agamaur and Garth Agarwen
2007-06-16 01:13:00
Note: This guide contains possible spoilers, as it is fairly exhaustive. If you don't want to know about these areas ahead of time, turn back now.Agamaur and Garth Agarwen are elite areas in the Eastern part of Lone Lands. They are challenging and confusing areas to play in, but the rewards for completing quests in this area are quite good in terms of both experience and items. To this end, I decided to write this guide to playing in these areas.HistoryIn-fighting among the sons of the Arnorian High King Eärendur resulted in the fragmentation of Arnor into three smaller realms: Arthedain, Cardolan, and Rhudaur. Rhudaur, which lay between Amon Sûl (also known as Weathertop) and the Misty Mountains, fell under the influence of Angmar. One of the denizens of Rhudaur was a River-daughter nam...

A complete guide to choosing your weapons
2007-06-16 01:07:00
* Auto-attack "ticks" are largely independent of all other factors except that they are delayed (or possibly overwritten) by skills with long induction times. The only reason that faster weapons enable you to chain your various skills faster is due to the faster animations of the auto-attack "ticks" that fall in between your chained skills due to either the global cooldown timer or the cooldown timer of the next-queued skill in your current chain. For example, most 2H weapons have longer attack animation times than faster 1H weapons, and there is variation in the animation speeds of the 1H weapons too. * The damage reduction of off-hand weapons is quite minimal, and is based on the weapon's lowest value in its damage range, not a flat 60% or 70% reduct...

The Complete Guide to Instance Bosses
2007-06-16 01:02:00
first let me say that the easiest way to clear trash is this... gather some up, fellowship conjunction - 5 reds/1 green. nice aoe w/ 1 minute HoT.now, to bosses:Assign Crowd Control (if necessary)Tank n' Spank (interrupt casting if possible, animations are usually very clear)Fellowship Conjunction = 3 blues/3 greens (having the tank and healer/s on greens is the easiest way to assign colors)Lather, Rinse, Repeat, Collect Loots.keep in mind that this strategy is working near-to flawlessly on 6man instances. havent tried it on any raid instances yet, but i'd assume we'll find a lot of 5+1 to ease the healers a little, and get a damage boost.btw, if anyone from turbine reads this:imo, fellowship conjunctions work exactly as planned. but when a boss has 30k+ health, and all you have to do is b...

Minstrel Guide
2007-06-15 18:18:00
Musical Instruments - There is currently a great deal of confusion about musical instruments, playing music, and how all this relates to a minstrel, so I thought I would address this right up front. You need to think of instruments and playing music in LOTRO in two completely different ways in order to make sense of this confusing subject. There are musical instruments that a minstrel uses to increase the stats to his/her songs that he/she uses in combat. When you start a new minstrel, you start with the lute skill only. You actually don't have a lute equipped right away, but when you sing a song that damages a monster or heals yourself or somebody in your fellow, you quickly pull a lute out and play a little lute riff. This is completely driven by the com...

Farming
2007-06-15 02:33:00
INTRODUCTIONThe Farmer trade in LOTRO allows you to grow vegetables and pipe-weed. Vegetables are used by Cooks in various recipes, and pipe-weed lets you blow smoke-rings.Farming is a little different from the rest of the crafting trades, which makes it rather interesting. Your "crafting facility" is Vegetable/Pipe weed Farmland and although you will find many farms around the Shire and Bree-land, only certain farms are designated as public "crafting" farmland. This guide describes the basics of farming, lists the locations of farmlands, and tells you what vegetables and pipeweed varieties can be grown and the uses of each one. All this should help you understand the nuances of the Farming trade, and provide information that you will need as you progress ...

Soloer's Guide to Splintered Warg Claws
2007-06-15 02:05:00
All of the other items on stage two of our level 45 class quest are pretty easy to solo, Splintered Warg Claws are a different story.I have found that they drop in two places, Carn Dum instance from level 48 Wargs, and Nan Gurth from level 50 Wargs. For Carn Dum you will need a group, and probably some CC as the wolves are in tight packs, with lots of other elites around them. Two runs or so there with a group that defers the claws to you and you should get your 20.If you are too low, or if this place is not an option for you yet, there is Nan Gurth.Nan Gurth is in the middle east part of Angmar, south of the town of Gath and the Himbar area. The place is populated by mobs ranging from 50-ish normals to 52+ Elite Masters, all more or less roaming in the same area together. Unlike most other...
