ow Many People Could You Fit Into 390sq ft of Purple Heaven?
2011-04-04 15:59:00
Well if you're designer David Kaihoi he can fit 3 people into his 390 sq ft East Village NYC Apartment - his wife, his 3 year old daughter and himself!Yesterday I posted about a beautiful Manhattan studio here from the same issue of House Beautiful . It was this purple bliss featured on the front cover that caught my eye in the first place. I adore purple and would love to have a purple room someday.(You may have noticed from previous posts that I adore many different types of decor and would love to have them all someday... therefore when the day comes that I obtain my mc-mansion entering each room will be become an experience unto itself! LOL)Now back to living in 390 sq ft - maybe I could manage but my boyfriend and cat certainly would not be welcome! And I can't even imagine...

Readers Picks: Two Houses
2011-03-29 20:47:00
Email, we get email! Oy! I love to get emails from readers with leads on stories and pictures of houses they either live in, know, or saw somewhere. Recently two readers sent in pictures of cute houses they saw in real estate online listings. One is from Dallas, which is pretty fair game for this blog. But the other house is in Tennessee! A first here! It’s located in Franklin, Tennessee to be exact and I have NO idea where that is! But, the house is really cute as you will see. So, here are two from readers, and one from me and one from the WTH department. Enjoy!!! HOUSE #1: The house in Franklin, Tennessee has a really cute exterior with a picket fence. It looks like this might be some kind of planned community. The house was recently reduced to $389,000. and is 2,...

While I Was Sleeping…
2011-03-28 18:00:00
The roses have been busy. I was late to take notice that spring has exploded in my back courtyard. It seems as if it happened overnight. This past winter was extremely cold and that accounts for all the profusion of flowers – the azaleas look incredible and I suspect the bluebonnets have turned the fields along the back roads leading to Round Top into a sea of purple. In my courtyard, the three rose bushes from The Antique Rose Emporium in Independence, Texas, have completely overtaken my back fence. I planted these bushes about 15 years ago. The antique climbers quickly grew to full height, around 15’, arching out over the gravel courtyard in a magnificent display of dark pink and creamy white roses. Until one day that is, when I came home to discover the Rose Tende...

Dear Dara:
2011-03-24 03:44:00
The cover was the first clue that this Veranda was going to be special. I was crazed by the cover picture and by the promise of “Romantic Decorating Returns.” Yes! Finally! This is the Veranda issue we’ve all been waiting for. Might this bedroom be the prettiest one ever seen? There’s that blue again – blue is everywhere it seems. In fact, this entire issue is filled with all different shades of beautiful blues. I’m loving the bench, the bed, the gilt, and the Hodsoll fabric on the gorgeous curtains. Dear Dara, I’ve been harsh, I’ve been a little mean, but Dara, I am asking for your forgiveness. You see, Dara, I haven’t given you a proper chance as the new editor of Veranda. I was still missing Southern Accents and I took it out on Veranda – expectin...

Eclectic yet Elegant
2011-03-21 14:45:00
Even if you don't know the name Airedelsur, you've probably seen their home accessories at places like Barneys and Bergdorfs.  They have a distinctive look which is why I was surprised when I saw the designer's own home in Buenos Aires.  Marcelo Lucini lives in an apartment that is eclectic yet elegant.  The lack of clutter lets each piece breathe and be seen.  I especially love the Gustavian style chairs in the dining room.  I don't ever think I've seen any upholstered in such dark fabric before and it makes them look very modern.  I'm sure this home won't appeal to everyone but I think you can definitely appreciate the details. Kind of like Airedelsur itself. Photos from Australian Vogue Living and French AD...

Villagio Inn + Spa. Yountville, California.Photo Courtesy CDL Workshop WebsiteA little while ago, I wrote to you about our stay at the Dream Inn in Santa Cruz. The Dream Inn is a beachy fun boutique hotel owned and operated by the folks of Joie de Vivre Hotels. What I didn't know at the time of the posting was that one of my favorite San Francisco design teams, the Charles de Lisle Workshop, was responsible for the hip and happy vibe. The CDL Workshop has been quite busy creating destination get aways that are now on my list of "have to see this in person" places. One of the latest is the Villagio Inn + Spa located in Yountville, California in the heart of the Napa Valley. Here is a taste of where you might want to plan your own little getaway:All photos courtesy CDL WorkshopIt never hurts to...

Happy Spring!
2011-03-20 21:44:00
Spring arrived at 7:21pm today and that means that the Park Avenue tulips can't be far behind! Hooray! If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant; if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome. - Anne Bradstreet...

DIFFA Dining by Design 2011
2011-03-20 11:35:00
Every year DIFFA holds it New York Dining by Design event adjacent to the Architectural Digest Home Show.  I wasn't able to attend last year and I forgot how much I enjoyed these fabulous over the top tables.   The Cocktails by Design event last Thursday was pretty crowded so it was hard to photograph them but here's a peek inside the event.  I especially loved the garden table with Kate and William plates designed by David Beahm above and below.  It's especially perfect for the first day of Spring!  If you miss the last day of viewing, there are still a limited number of seats available for the Gala Dinner honoring Margaret Russell on Monday, March 21st.  Enjoy! Architectural Digest Home Show
2011-03-20 08:52:00
I toured the Architectural Digest Home Show Friday and it seemed to have a renewed sense of energy.  There were a lot of great exhibitors this year including Diane von Furstenberg's new home collection.  I love all the prints for the bedding. The DVF prints are even on the tableware. I'm not usually drawn to contemporary furniture but these pieces from USM Modular Furniture caught my eye.  I'm sure it was because they were orange but they have great lines and would look great in a home or office. The simple bar cart was chic too. The gallery owner forgot his cards so I don't know what booth this was from but I love the abstract paining. It would look amazing in a room with the USM furniture. Gargoyles Ltd. has been in business since 1970 but I had never heard of them before. ...
